Devalued transfers Velocity / KrisFlyer from 1.35 to 1.55

Interesting to note for ANZ Rewards customers, this change will make it beneficial to now transfer from ANZ to KrisFlyer directly

You're quite right at regular conversion rates, but keep in mind that you typically get a 15+15% bonus, if not even higher, for transfers from ANZ to VA twice a year!

Haven't given this one too much thought.

Don't have enough for business class x 3 if transferred to KrisFlyer but could possible leave in Velocity and not far from having enough for business class x 3 to HKG if it's possible to find 3 business class seats on the 1 flight.

I transferred. Ended up with 190k KF miles. Either a few more from amex and 2 J rewards to europe, a lot more from amex and 2 x F awards somewhere.
The star alliance chart has some interesting options as well.
Either way, I think I'm more likely to use them through KF so I've just sent them over. VA points are easy to get, KF not as easy. Makes more sense to take advantage of the favourable rate I think.

I came to the same conclusion when couldn’t use my Velocity points. Took the haircut and managed to redeem them.

Depends on what you want to redeem for. International premium seats are anecdotally hard to find unless looking closer to your travel date. I tend to book way out as I know when I. can travel.

Is the general consensus to transfer over to KF still?

i'd say once again it depends on what you are looking to redeem for.

we do ADL-SIN return a few times a year - for us VFF is a better option that KF so i am keeping a healthy stock of VFF.

Out of curiosity, may I ask why?

It seems to mine to be better value to move over.

A few reasons:
- Much cheaper $$ travelling with an infant booking through Velocity (it's free vs. 10% of full rack rate business fare, which on one way sectors can be massive)
- On Asian routes I do it is cheaper points wise booking through Velocity rather than transferring to SQ.

An example of the savings can be seen in my thread on the Europe trip I booked. I didn't put the $$ comparison in the table. But probably saved $1500 booking through VA on SQ.

Thank you. My infant is now 22jo and no sign of any grandkids yet. So I will discount that benefit in my case ;)

But I might have to consider which of the non-Europe routes I want to fly.

Between my wife and I we have 2 million vffs and so I don't want to redeem that many via velocity, but it may be prudent to keep some and in particular with the amex devaluation where I will be moving all amex points to squeeze.

Wow with that many points yes I would be hedging both ways with some transferred to SQ and some staying in VFF.

For someone whose international travel is primarily to the US would there be any benefit in converting VFF to krisflyer?

No longer a velocity millionaire.... transferred just under half of mine to get 400000 KF miles. Instant transfer as points appeared as I refreshed my KF account page.

Then will transfer all my Amex before April deadline into Krisflyer and Etihad (for Aust domestic business). Looking forward to SQ into Asia and Europe or Africa.

Going to US you can transfer from VA to KF and probably use points on AirNZ direct from Au to US.
Esp if you live in a city in Au and fly from Au where VAi/DL doesnt fly there from and to the US.

Im in sydney and fly to LAX. Basicly looking for the best value options of booking reward business class seats.

Thankfully booking last minute doesnt bother me... Although virgins new carrier charges on the other hand do :(

All my VFF points have gone over to KF. Working towards 2 x J flights AUS to Europe in the next couple of years. Given many of my VFF points were from AMEX (having been seduced by the 15% bonus transfers), I'm just annoyed at myself for having not transferred directly from AMEX to KF - I could have had around 30000 more KF points. Lesson learned.

I see.
Has VA picked up its slackness and now fly from SYD - LAX again?
Think the last time I read it, they used to fly BNE and MEL to LAX most often.
Your choice though.
AirNZ seems to fly a lot of their 777 from AKL to the US, if VA are starting to fly their 777s from SYD direct to US, maybe stick with that/them.
Are SQ's/AirNZ's carrier charges for taxes/levies cheaper than VAi?
If so, then the transfer of VFF points to KF would be a good thing to do.
If you fly AirNZ J, you have SYD AirNZ Koru lounge and also AKL AirNZ Koru lounge access, but of course the flight will take longer.
Have not flown VAi on a large plane, so can't say, but have flown premY on the AirNZ 777 and 787 and can't complain.
VAi J might be good in flat front suites, than herringbone.
(((Edit: just had a look at SeatGuru, turns out VAi also does herringbone in J suites, didn't realise that.)))
Sorry for the waffly.

We transferred all our points over last week, and I'll do one final sweep before the end of the month to catch what we've earned since then. We haven't had success booking SQ via velocity, & through KF it's been easy.
We rarely use velocity points anymore except for the occasional Perth trip, and thanks to flybuys they are not difficult to earn!

Hi Does anyone know that when SQ say you can book redemption flights for up to five people do you as the kris flyer card and points holder have to be on the flight as well.
