Devalued transfers Velocity / KrisFlyer from 1.35 to 1.55

the award charts from Velocity for SQ flights is based on 1.35:1 which is the same as the current conversion rate. I think you can bet the awards charts will also change.
Not true at all. They are distance based not zone based like kf uses. Velocity does not have a separate chart specially for sq. Vff uses their own distance based chart on which sq is in the 2nd group. To change award charts for group 2 means everyone is changing.. Unlikely given was only recently changed.
When using Vff vs kf miles I always compare whether converting one way or keeping that currency makes more sense in terms of points cost. E.g. Adl-sin and vv is 58k on kf and 53k on Vff. It has never been based on the conversion rate you are purporting above

Damn. Availability when redeeming on Singapore directly rather than booking via VA (i.e transfer points) has been much better for my needs.

Glad I got in with the 1.35 conversion rate to book a SQ F award. I guess points will stay with VA and just try to get SQ award via velocity system. I started collecting into VA (and flying them) based on the conversion option and ability to get SQ F under KrisFlyer. It’s a real shame. Probably switch most credit card earns back to QF now.

Get a St George Amplify credit card if that suits you. Kris Miles are valuable and are my favourite for long hauls.

This will only give me 1 x KF mile per 2 dollars spent. My Virgin Visa will still give a better transfer rate on earning 2 x VFF point per 2 dollars. So will get 1.3 KF miles per dollar. (Edit per 2 Dollars)

The Amplify runs 0.825 Kris Miles per dollar if you keep it to include the birthday bonus.
ozjuice your Virgin Visa doesn’t do that. You will get 1 divided by 1.55 in the new year.

Obviously not a great development, but it could have been worse. Thinking back to when the transfer was originally announced, 2VA>1SQ (or worse) seemed to me like a real possibility, so I can live with 1.55VA>1SQ.

I will probably hedge my bets and transfer about half my VA balance over in December.

Same, will probably transfer 50% over. KF for SQ awards, and the remaining 50% for my domestic flying.

what are the chances they have another 15-20% bonus from CC to VFF transfers before the devaluation??

This devaluation is disappointing but not unexpected. I'm assuming I wasn't the only one going hell for leather transferring VA points to SQ - must've been costing them. Couldn't redeem my VA points for long haul flights (unless travelling via Abu Dhabi and taking the long way round) so this link to SQ has proven excellent. Glad I moved all my points earlier this year for family trip to Eu next year.

I have the Dragon card and agree outside of where you can use Amex, it's an excellent way to earn SQ points. The limitation is that I can only have one supp. Was thinking of getting Mrs albyd to apply for her own so we can each make one other family member a supp to move away from Coles MC and stop earning VA points via Fly Buys. Now a waste with the new devaluation. Does anyone have another strategy they're currently using?

I have actually found predominately better value booking direct through VA on SQ flights rather than transferring first. No the availability hasn't shown online on Virgins website, but when showing on the SQ website I have always been able to get it over the phone with VA, occasionally with a battle. So it's fingers crossed my side that the redemption rates don't change and will be minimal effect.

Sorry, When looking at various SQ redemptions on VA website, the VFF points required for a SQ flight seemed close enough to 1.35x the KF points for the same flight, for it to be a coincidence. YMMV as i only check the routes i was interested in, which wasnt many.

Got the same email. My wife and I have about 29,000 KF points each and a similar number of Velocity points in my name. Figured the only way to get any value out of them was to transfer all the KF points to Velocity and then do the family amalgamation. Must check the numbers with a view to makeing the transfers before 1 Jan 19. No change is ever favourable to the punters is it??

Oh well it was good whilst it lasted. The good thing was that I already moved 580K from Virgin to KF and redeemed J and Suite flights in the past, including new A380 Suites late last year and early this year.

I only have 80K in my Virgin account now and expect 80K more once my ANZ TA card bonus comes through, so I will just keep those points at VA for now.

If they made Velocity a better FF program with better avails on international redemption (pretty much non existent in J) then they wouldn’t have the issue of people bouncing points straight out into Krisflyer.

What a cough enhancement, thanks Velocity / VA.

This is a head scratchier..... I am the guy who books 330 days in advance so J availability isn't an issue, and SQ redemption @1.35 was similar value. In VFF you have access to VS and EY, while SQKF will give you *A and *A-RTW.

A bit annoying as my next flight to book comes up in Mid-Jan. Really not sure what to do here.....

I would transfer the points to SQ now (or before December 31) and book in mid-January as you had planned. It's a risk but chances are, SQ will have availability IMHO.
