Devalued transfers Velocity / KrisFlyer from 1.35 to 1.55

Ouch. Transfers both ways are affected? That's some serious devaluation and for me totally out of left field.

Not a huge balance but may transfer some Velocity points to SQ for use when revenue airfares to BKK are expensive.

This is a head scratchier..... I am the guy who books 330 days in advance so J availability isn't an issue,
on AU-LAX route? I have looked at availability 330 days out and never seen it. I can only assume that they aare snapped up in minutes by clock watchers.

How do you do it?

In May, I went SQ F via VA points SYD SIN FRA JFK. I needed to jump on that as soon as it came on line. Long way around, but 23.50 hours in SIN helped. Next time, I’ll organise FRA. I don’t like transferring VA to SQ though till seat secured. Will need to do it before end of year now if I want to attempt that again.

Pity this is drying up. Velocity for me was mainly about getting points KF.

Will need to move over my 2 million points before the deadline. More than I prefer, but with 3 years to use them at KF it is an ok l level.

Will for future Velocity earn hgave to suss out what is the new best way to burn points with them.

I am still a bit confused by everyone here being in a panic? At the moment booking SQ flights direct through VA is even better value than transferring on a number of occasions. For now this isn't changing. It's only the waitlist function you don't have access to.

Not much use if there are no redemption flights via VA though. Which is usually the case.

I have never had an SQ flight showing as available (as a saver) on their website and not be bookable through VA. Yes it doesn't show online, but calling VA have always got what was shown on SQ's website.

Call me a glass half empty person but given all the devaluation recently, I would not bank on VA having the same availability as the Krisflyer programme for SQ flights from 2019...

How many do you book a year?

Nah I do SQ J to Europe sorry.

But yes clock watching is the key.

On which routes is it better to book SQ via VA than SQ via SQ?
One case is with an infant, you only pay taxes on VA but have to add 10% of the adult cash fare on SQ (can particularly hurt for one-way bookings).

I want to change FF programs because I recently booked QFF J seats to Europe return for 2 and got slugged $3500 in fees, taxes, surcharges and whatever so decided that after 20 years my loyalty to Qantas is now nearly gone (still got 170k points for domestic trips).

Applied for this 80,000 velocity points ANZ deal and should get it this week. Now I read that transferring to Krisflyer will mean less points to use there which is what I had my eye on for long haul flights.

I did some dummy international bookings on Velocity and couldn't find any J seats in any of the months I looked at (unless you pay 800,000 points!). I did the same on Krisflyer and found plenty of availability.

So I'm leaning toward a St George Amplify card and getting maximum bonus points and putting my eggs into the Krisflyer basket. Fingers crossed I get the 80,000 velocity points by the end of the year and then I can switch them over.

I can find no good reason to funnel all my points to Velocity.

If they made Velocity a better FF program with better avails on international redemption (pretty much non existent in J) then they wouldn’t have the issue of people bouncing points straight out into Krisflyer.

What a cough enhancement, thanks Velocity / VA.

Typical VA. They and Qantas keep treating "customers" like cough and we keep coming back for more........

In response to "clock watchers" getting J seats 330 days out..........only if your a GF or PF. The rest have to wait 7-10 days prior to departure

Interesting to note for ANZ Rewards customers, this change will make it beneficial to now transfer from ANZ to KrisFlyer directly:
  • 1 ANZ = 0.33 KF

Rather than via Velocity:
  • Currently: 1 ANZ = 0.5 VA = 0.37 KF
  • From 2019: 1 ANZ = 0.5 VA = 0.32 KF
