Digital Passenger Declaration to Replace Incoming Passenger Card

nothing will be published about the Digital Passenger Declaration until February 15, when I don't have time to fill it in 72 hours in advance. Do any of you perhaps know anything about what dpd will look like at all?
Welcome to AFF, @sarajlo! Sometimes people had to complete australia travel declaration late (e.g. urgent travel) and IIRC it wasn't an issue. Should become clearer tomorrow but I expect you'd need to complete it before checkin and be able to show proof that you have completed it. That was the case with the ATD.
Hopefully you will be able to amend any form submitted right up to the second you pass through immigration.
You can bet there would be someway that could be done. Plenty of people make last minute purchases en route and there must be a way of declaring these.

I wouldn't be surprised if, when you purchased your duty-free it was flagged against your arrival details, although its hardly worth it nowadays as Dan is almost cheaper

I think they're more worried about items you bought overseas in general not just duty free.

The alcohol I bring back from the US is usually retail not duty free.

Generally speaking, from the Australian government perspective, anything an ordinary traveller buys overseas is duty free. 🤣

I'm fully aware that you have to pay duty on import to Australia (if you exceed the limit) regardless of where you purchased it - retail or duty free.

The comment was in relation to a previous post indicating they expected duty free purchases to be recorded against the declaration. For this reason I highly doubt it.

I'm usually bringing back special bottles bought retail that are hard to find - not what's mass marketed at LAX duty free.

The devil is in the detail. Your vaccination and health status will now be shared with the states which is a breach of your constitutional right to privacy.
This will place your details in the hands of the autocratic deviates known as the state Premiers.

More details available now about the Digital Passenger Declaration:

You can start filling it out up to 7 days before your flight, but can only submit it within 72 hours before departure.

This is the website were the DPD can be completed:

Looks like existing accounts have been binned and new account must be created. When I tried to log in using my existing details
Could not authenticate. Check your details and try again.
...although I could log in to my account and start a new ATD from the old login page (presumably this function dies on 18/2)

And when I clicked through to the FAQ link from the main page

There is a transition period. Until 21 February, people will be allowed to travel with either an ATD or DPD.

My partner and I arrived back in Melbourne yesterday. We were on SQ 227 from Singapore.

Our journey had originated in Rome. We'd flown Lufthansa to Frankfurt and on to Singapore.

Filling out the Digital Passenger Declaration within the prescribed time frame was a pain in the backside. My partner and I each have an Apple iPhone and we both found it difficult to fulfil the requirements of the declaration. Fortunately, the receptionist at our hotel in Rome was both computer savvy and most obliging. She assisted us completing the declaration using the hotel computer and scanner.

We each received an email confirmation that the declaration was in order.

I must add that my laptop failed just before we left Australia so I couldn't take that. And we experienced problems accessing email in Italy.

When we boarded SQ 227 at Singapore we were handed out the traditional Australian form. We completed it en route and handed it in as per previous travels.

At no stage, were either of us asked about our passenger declaration form.

Whilst waiting for our luggage, I chatted with one of the many border force personnel and he told me the declaration form had been introduced by Canberra. The declarations were not being inspected but there were random inspections (probably for other purposes?).

I am satisfied that the new requirements and the time frames imposed place a burden on Australians travelling overseas and I can imagine there will be some/much heartache along the way, especially among older travellers who may not be as tech savvy as younger people.

I left Tullamarine wondering if the bureaucrats that devised and implemented the new system did so from the comfort of "working from home" with little regard to the practicalities of meeting the requirements while on the move overseas.

The website makes it clear that the new system is mandatory and suggest anyone not complying may be denied re-entry to Australia. Our experience was quite different yesterday.

What have others on AFF experienced?

Why is a scanner required? Thought it's all app based.

There are documents to upload. That’s fine if you can take a photo or have a digital copy on your device, but it complicates things. For me, the website looks to be more flexible than the app.

Easier said than done for us. We weren't as familiar with our iPhone settings as we should have been perhaps but there was also ongoing problems with our internet access in Italy.

Yes; we found the website better. The point that I was trying to make was that there was a lot to be done under some pressure. Purely, is it seems, to meet Australian government data collection requirements.

QF did a cursory look at my DPD at check-in. Agree about it being a pain to use. So many things need to be scanned and in my case did not like QR codes for international vaccine certificates (non-Australian) or covid test result. Since the QR code didnt scan I had to manually enter details of my 3 vaccine doses, which was also a pain as the certificate just states the number and the latest one.

2nd transit through Australia and have to re-enter all of the info, it doesn't remember any of it despite showing the past DPD entry in the app.

Now getting an error message entering number of vaccine doses, it isn't accepting any of the options. Doesn't accept non-Australian international vaccine certificate scan. So I currently can't complete the DPD.

Online help is useless, when it can't answer the question it refers to an Australian call centre that is only open during work hours in Australia.

Any thoughts on how I can resolve this? My flight is in less than a day.

Okay, managed to get it to work using the website. I have no idea why it wasn't working in the app the 2nd time. I did not have this issue in the app just a few days ago for my previous DPD.

Question to those who have completed:
Do you have to upload the test results or just tick a box to say you have tested and it's negative?

Technologically challenged patents about to complete it in the UK and they will start it 7 days out, will they have to go back in to complete the test part?

Many thanks!
