Digital Passenger Declaration to Replace Incoming Passenger Card

Reading this, and also reading other reviews on other websites, of the DPD really puts me off going "over the ditch" to the land of the long white clouds, or any where overseas.
And I thought being asked aside to have my bags strip searched, prior to me becoming an Aust citizen (at that time was an Aust PR visa holder), was bad enough, now after reading on this thread, and other threads online, eeuugh...
So much effort.
And so, if we or you, or I, do say 3 trips to NZ each year, just for a status run, or for fun, or for leisure, imagine having to do this DPD 3/4 times a year.
Imagine having to scan passport and vax cert info, for 3/4 times a year.
For 80 QF/VFF SC, on a J one way Aust to NZ, might as well fly PER - each coast, or DRW - ADL/east coast, bit more expensive, but no DPD needed, and no IPC needed, or QF9/QF10 PER - MEL/or the QF flight from ROM to PER - MEL, but just do the PER - MEL flight, ...
Argh.
Maybe with the change in fed govt to the ALP in CBR, they might drop the DPD, (*we wish/hope).

3 mins * 4 trips a year is 12 mins, not a huge imposition or deterrent, ymmv of course, far less effort and time than it takes to call QF for example.

I have done the DPD three times now and it took me more than three minutes each time. But certainly less than ten and I don't think it was that stressful/ complicated, to be honest. That does not mean it makes sense to start from scratch every time, entering vax details/ passport etc., surely this could remain pre-populated...

Did this in Australia before leaving for a short trip to NZ. It wouldn't read the QR code no matter how hard I tried with the print out flat on a plain white table. Had to bring it up on my computer screen and it read from there. Strange! Then the night before leaving NZ I got an email saying my DPD was incomplete. It wasn't. I had to go through it and check all details as if I had just entered them and save and submit again. Then got an approval, although I had already had it approved 7 days earlier! This thing is a mess. Clunky, repetitive and unreliable.

I have no trouble with the DPD except it seems to say sections are incomplete when I know they were completed. I tried the web version and it didn't work. I was being sent verification codes even before I got to asking for one or to the page where it was to be entered.. The phone App works OK. Trying for a trip on 20 June but only allowing fight entry from 9 June.

Yet another Doozy from DozyFAT ! Or, the ouija effect.

First up, when departing why did they not think of adding a slip of paper in your passport regarding the need to register before returning. Considering the AEC printed 3x the electorate voting papers there must be plenty wafting around Canberra.

So, rocking up at the F check in in DXB at around midnight we were told EK unable to print our boarding passes as we had not registered with DPD !
We were provided with the link & then spent the next 90 mins trying to get this tech to work. Now, I do not own a "device", just a telephone, the clue is in the word. Fortunately my CIO has an old device which took ages to upload the chip data. Furthermore, there is no progress bar to tell you if it is in fact working. You have to sit there waving the device over the passport. I enlisted the assistance of a helpful EK staff member who told us that the boarding pass could not be printed unless/until the tech gave the OK. My passport, which is now up for renewal, inshallah, (another story) took about 1hour.
Whoever the "wunderkind" software salesperson was who sold this bill of goods to the gullible DFAT mob should be shot. Obviously assumes everyone has spent a fortune on the latest tech, has a newish passport & has easy access to the internet.
To add insult to injury we were still presented with the brown card to fill in, &, you still have to present your passport at immigration upon arrival. A total fiasco & waste of time/$.

The DPD is annoying but its not really a big deal, a few minutes to fill things out and you're done. Air NZ didnt even check it when we departed, we just ticked a box on the kiosk to say we had done it.

You should try the NZ equivalent of the DPD. You have to add a Covid test certificate and not all testing locations give digital certificates or fill the certificate in properly. I had to fill mine in by hand, and completed it after the test because the location had not done so. Then it took two hours to get the QR code, but that is another story not related to the NZ government. They did have a phone help line which answered almost immediately, and in the evening.

Same here on a recent trip. I will find out soon if it the same with Qantas from WLG.

Arriving into BNE int, I noticed a cordoned off area where people were filling in forms. There weren't may people there and wondered if I should do so. I later found out this was for passengers who had not filled in a DPD before arriving in OZ. ( I met one of those passengers later who told me) So. 1. the airline didn't check or didn't care and 2. it didn't seem to be a big deal for immigration.

Just a quick comment on today's article in the gazette... I don't believe taking a screenshot is a 'workaround'... the app actually suggests you to take a screenshot to save printing or any other messing around.

‘If anything, the current DPD process is an excellent case study in inefficient government bureaucracy.’ Or another example of an outsourcing failure?

Totally superfluous for an Australian Passport holder. You can upload your vax certificate to your passport way easier than to the DPD. They already have your photo in the passport. The only extra thing asked for was flight number and where you are departing from. but then they already know that.

Just another form designed by a committee trying to prove that they are essential.

I had already had it approved 7 days earlier

That was your problem, whilst you can start your DPD 7 days out, you can not submit it more than 48 hours out - the instructions are quite clear.

I see there was a new version of the App (at least the Apple version) released yesterday - does anyone know if this has made any improvements to the issues or was it just cosmetic?

I though it was 72 hours.

Not true, I submitted mine before we left Aus for a four night trip.

Yes, Apple also had an update on 19 May. All updates say "This latest version contains a number of improvements and bug fixes." It would be good if they actually highlighted what was changed.
