Friend's cat protecting the first tomato of the summer

Seal point raggie! Couldn't protect the tomatoes from a fly!

Our raggie is back home now safe and sound. The bushfire threat has passed with torrential rain. And I gave one of blackcats Taittinger champagnes to the cattery for keeping the cats safe.

That's not completely correct, one of mine once managed to catch a fly. Then was so surprised he let it go again...

Black/chocolate cats don't photo well at all. Told him i'm giving him up for a more photogenic colour.

I bought a cushion for mine, it's about 1.5m square. The wouldn't use it at all for weeks, then the cleaner turned it over to clean and they love the black, uncomfortable, underside of it...

Any black animal come to that. Flash helps but results in red eye a lot of the time. The solution that works best is in Photoshop or Lightroom to "lighten midtones" or "lighten shadow". That usually brings a bit of contrast in. Other photo editing programs might have similar controls.

Here's an example, before and after, featuring my two Siamese and a put-upon dachshund. Mid-tone is Ctrl-L in Photoshop Elements.

Mikko is my sons cat. He is currently travelling in The Philippines. It's his birthday tomorrow.

He picked Mikko from a litter. I wonder why he picked him:

I've yet to hear the story, maybe it was an emergency but it seems strange they didn't make some kind of evacuation plan. But it seems like it was a huge kennel. Maybe that's the thing - look for a smaller place where preventive action is possible.

I think they took some dogs but left all the cats.

Hoping for no new fire warnings for Woodside please. Currently the cattery where our cat is staying is taking in cats who've been caught up in the fire. They are good people and I'll make a donation when I collect him. Their Facebook page has also been updated and many offers of help came in.

(OT. These fires are bringing out the best in people. Apparently people from safe areas who have horse floats have been driving into the areas offering to collect and agist in their paddocks.)

I'd heard (and I coudl be wrong) that they didn't take any animals. The dogs that survived were in a building that survived the fire...

White cats aren't the easiest either, depending on the light. They often appear light a very bright blob. Myself on the other hand... :p

Someone enjoys a sleep in....and it wasn't me.

Oh dear. They aren't saying much about here in Adelaide but I do know the owners put something on Facebook to defend their actions.

IIRC some of dogs that survived were revived at the scene. That would indicate that some of dogs passed out due to lack of oxygen and not taken by fire.

Spot the Cat.

I'm obviously on the staff of a dark (chocolate) coloured cat who has previously looked for her in the same place because I saw the cat in seconds.

Same here. I am not on staff, but the cat I had the pleasure of serving for a couple of weeks liked the same spot.

Same. Just look for black.

A new coffee machine came today. In a perfect sized box.

What is it with cats and the TV. Ours chooses to plonk himself in right front during viewing times. Being a Maine Coon he doesn't cast a small shadow !!!
