Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

I showed my little 18 month Nephew the Cat today through the sliding door. Very impressed when I heard him say Cat twice. More impressive we didn't really teach him that word.

Is this a definition of relaxed bliss?

Precious girl :)
Is she pining at all?

No, she is the strangest cat, can be very (very) vocal, but to no-one in particular. She spent the first 10 years of her life being beaten up by the brother of our Atani (Tani) and after he died she came into her own, but unfortunately she looks likes a real sour puss! Even though she is a real sweety.

Big changes in our house as my old boy has come back with a diabetes diagnosis - which is better than the kidney failure we were expecting based on symptoms. We are adjusting to giving him insulin via needles twice a day.

We caught it very early so hoping we might be able to push him into remission.

It does mean he has to go back to being limpy as he cant have cortisone (very low dose every 3 days) for his arthritis.

For info - 4 classic symptoms of diabetes in cats is increased drinking, increased urination, weight loss and increased appetite. We had the first 2. There was weight loss but not visible under his fur and appetite - did not notice a change.

Hope it all works out. Our old girl was on medication for the last few years for a thyroid condition. Unfortunately she was not a good pill taker

Hey Milboo how long has he been on "low dose" cortisone? Make sure you monitor his glucose while he comes off the cortisone.
I believe there are some non-steroi_als (Metacam for instance) that are good with cat arthritis.

He was on 0.5ml every 3rd day for about 10 weeks. I tapered him to 0.25ml in the last week and he spent 6 days in the vet for diet transition and then insulin starting.

He did not tolerate Metacam :(

Cortisone was also being used secondarily to help an IBD type issue that would reoccur.

Yes, daughter did vet and she has no trouble getting pills down cats but when I tried Patsy would hold it in her mouth and seem to swallow then as soon as I released her, she would spit it out and look at me balefully. Clever!
