Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

With all the cat lovers here I'm guessing that this is not really the right thread to say what I think of cats :!:

I have a love hate relationship. Our cat came to us after living rough, it just wandered into the yard. I did everything to get rid of it, including chasing it with the mower. Didn't feed it or anything. Then after a few days if typical Adelaide 40+ degree days the children decided to give it water. That was it....

Strange thing was the cat was already desexed. So someone had it as a pet, as a cute kitten, but then dumped it. Vet estimated she was 2 or so when we got her.

The Bella antics continue. Finished painting my spare room and wandered off the wash all the brushes and rollers. Came back to close the window, and there, below the window sill, are four paw prints on the wall. Cue scurrying around to quickly patch it up before it dries!

Re: The totally cat thread

I'm not much for tatts, blackcat20 (to each their own), but the Ulysses is the most magnificent butterfly!
We fortunately have a couple of doughwoods as well as bush lemon and grapefruit trees in our yard, all of which the Ulysses likes to lay her eggs on, so we are often treated to the sight of them fluttering about. They can fly quite high, well out of reach of our marauding pet chickens. We also see a few Cairns Birdwing butterflies every year - they are huge: 6 to 7 inches: quite beautiful.

I'm a member of Ulysses, would you like me to come and "flutter around" your yard?

A couple of funny cat pics.

As a highly qualified gas fitter, and a fierce hater of cats I can honestly say unfortunately your cat will be fine. Keep the filters clean on the back vac them once a week and have the heater serviced at least once every two years and make sure whoever does it, pulls it apart, fully cleans it and does all safety checks. There's too many cowboys these days

:D Can't recall any disgracefully aging Ulyssian that I've met that I thought was prettier than a butterfly but by all means feel free to bring your 2-winged - err - wheeled beast by any time you're in the neighbourhood! I'm sure we'll have plenty in common to discuss.

Well I've never cleaned the filter - will get on that now. Good news is you may have saved us all, bad news for you is that includes saving the cat.
I read your response to my partner who said "oh so just like you then". Having been an avid anti-cat person... I like my cat most people can't help but like my cat. Even people who don't normally like cats but she's a dog so you know ..
It was serviced last year .. just before I bought it. I might get it done again just incase the guy was exaggerating. It's not 4 years old yet but well its gas so I'd prefer not to risk wear and tear on the appliance.

It really bothers me when people say they hate cats. Cats do what cats do. It is up to the people who have control over them to make sure that it is not inappropriate. I have eight cats and one dog - and the dog is a pitbull. Which is another hated animal, again because the people who have control over them don't do the right thing.

My cats are contained - I have the Taj Mahal of cat runs attached to my house.

I work at an animal shelter and about 1/3 of the animals through the shelter each year are wildlife. Reasons for wildlife coming in are about 50% human based, e.g., car strike; and about 20% each cat and dog injuries with the remaining 10% being disease.

I won't post photos or go on about my cats - I could talk about them all day! They are all so different - people say cats are boring but they are all individuals, some more quirky than others. I have a Facebook album called "Luigi helps in the kitchen" with photos of one of my cats "helping" by getting in pots, the sink, on top of the extractor hood, in the dishwasher etc.

My avatar here is my favourite cat, Poppy, who lives in our bedroom. She plucks at the sheets when I am asleep so I'll lift them up for her to get in the bed. My Twitter name is poppyvelvet, after her. On Flyertalk I'm MissEllie after another cat, Ellie.

So from Maxie, Ellie, Poppy, Midnight, Chrissie, Freddie, Normie, Luigi and Dahlia the pit bull, be tolerant of the animals - it's the humans who are the ones to watch!

While we were at the mid year do my cat apparently thought she could run through the glass window. I got a message half way through the evening from my friend who's staying with us...
Crazy cat, crazy cat,
does whatever a crazy cat does,
Can she fly thru the glass, no she can't but she thinks she can
No one was injured but she did want cuddles and food when we got home (i am pretty sure we got into trouble for breaking curfew.. She was very chatty and sleepy)

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Well when I got home tonight I had to give lots of hugs and pay a bribe. Raw chicken hearts were happily accepted and then some quality play time and then lap time. I think there be a little tussle over who gets what side of the bed this evening.

Being weird tho i missed it and the heater in question.

Mardi, I think this thread is established enough for you to tell us all day and post photos because i've come to expect a nice photo or story each day...

These are the youngest in the family. Normie on the left and Luigi on the right. They are brothers and we raised them from < one week old without a mum. Bottle feeds every few hours, washing them, helping them toilet, they were filthy little runts for the first five or six weeks of their lives. One of their brothers didn't make it, another one was returned to the animal shelter when he was old enough (we were fostering them) and was adopted the same day. I couldn't let Normie go so we decided to adopt him. Luigi was found to have a serious heart murmur and potentially not a very long life so we adopted him too.

They are now 2 1/2 and we call them the gangsters because they are the funniest, wickedest, playfullest, naughtiest cats ever and they go everywhere together. You can't leave anything smallish on a table or bench; a gangster will be up there and throwing it on the floor straight away. They investigate the grocery bags when we bring the shopping home. Luigi is scared of NOTHING. Most cats, if they go somewhere they shouldn't be, you can psssst them and they skitter off. Luigi just gives you The Look. The pitbull chases him and corners him, he just lies there then gets up and walks away when the dog loses interest. Luigi is the only one of our cats who gives head butts. They always eat out of the same food bowl, even though we have one for each cat, because that's the way they did it as kittens.

I have a new fleecy snuggle rug to put on my legs when I'm watching TV. They love it and they suckle it. Weird but not uncommon in kittens weaned prematurely from their mother.

And there's no sign of any problems from that heart murmur!

Naaw, thats sad, cute, funny, interesting and great all at the same time.
How did they come to needing fostering? Were they dumped, does anyone know?

Despite my dislike of cats I do have a personal cat story. When we lived in the Hunter Valley a neighbours cat decided to have her kittens behind our garage. The first we knew was seeing her take her kittens one by one back to their rightful home.A couple of days later we heard some weak cat sounds.Investigated and there was the runt of the litter still alive. Our pre-schooler son said we have to do something so mrsdrron despite her dislike of cats fed it milk via an eye dropper. It survived.
It of course had no mother figure so it was adopted by the Labrador from next door.It grew up believing it was a dog.We would often take the Labrador for a walk and the cat would follow. It had every dog mannerism including coughing it's leg to empty her bladder. If it got tired on a walk it would just hop up on the Labradors back. Unfortunately it adopted too many dog habits and was killed chasing a car.

:(

My mum had a friend who was moving and couldn't take their cat. So my mum took it in. My sister almost died from an asthma attack brought on by the cat, we didn't know it was the cat that was causing her sudden asthma for a few weeks. Our neighbour was having her drive-way redone. Her son worked for the council, and while on their "smoke-o" they used the work gear to do a proper grading job... The roller thing... rolled over the cat.. so they road based over it to avoid telling me that killed the cat. My sisters asthma cleared and then the doctors put 2 and 2 together.
It was about 2 months before my mum told me the cat wasn't coming back. Until that time she was telling me it had been home while I was at school... hmm
Esk - opposite the golf course/show ground/race track - incase JohnK stumbles upon this.
