Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

This is Ernest... or Finnegan .... or whatever; daughter hasn't decided yet. A little friend for Sabie. After a somewhat shaky start, Sabie is getting better and I think they will be friends. :) He is a funny little thing - rather scruffy but with a big personality. In the bathroom when he first came home last week.

And resting on the couch tonight.

And today is a very important day for us cat lovers:

It is the feast day for Gertrude of Nivelles, patron saint of cats.

We took our 16 year old cat to the vet last month (see the photo of her in the fruit bowl from 2015?), and was told she most likely has inflammatory bowel disease. Has anyone else lived with a cat with IBD, and how did you manage the change in toilet behaviour?

Dunno about cats, but I have IBD and it's not fun. When you need to go, you NEED to go. And I go more times per day now. So if I was a cat, I'd want easy access to my litter box, and if you live in a large or two-storey house, I'd put another one upstairs, so it's handy when she needs it. It's also pretty painful when it's symptomatic, so I assume your vet has given you some suitable painkillers (NSAIDs are out!). What was the vet's advice?

Thanks suze2000; your description of IBD is similar to the cat's behaviour. We now have 5 litter trays in various locations.
Vet suggested a change in diet, and medication.

Five is a good number for an old cat. I hope the meds help her to feel better soon. *hugs* to you too, because looking after a sick pet is stressful.

Daughter has settled on Oscar as a name for the latest fur baby. He is very funny, though last night she had an online test for a course she is doing and had the laptop set up ready to start when the test came on line at 7pm. She left it for a couple of minutes to go to the kitchen and when she returned, Oscar had made himself comfortable on the keyboard and several new windows were opened.
She sent a photo of them both the other day....looking very cute. (You can see that her cats rather like sharpening their claws on the footstool)

Sigh. The puss has decided the best place to pee is the dog bed and the front door mat
*hugs*

Must be the day for it. Our cat peed on the toilet pee mat (yes we have one because my husband insists on it). In his defense though, he was locked in the bathroom with hubby who was in the shower and his litter box is in the laundry. He's never gone in the wrong place before, even when we moved house.

Something stressed puss recently? Or an infection?
Seamus used to pee inside when he was stressed. Daughter used to use Feliway (?) to help calm him.

New baby or house guests. My pick is the latter as she doesn’t seem to care about the baby. Vet check last week was all clear.
*hugs*

She’s s never done it before either, first time the other week when we’d hadn’t a visitor. Then didn’t do it again till yesterday.
A baby maybe....
I don’t think she cares about the baby, both currently snuggled up with me.
