re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hello Team, with Qantas' Special SC offer this week, I'm thinking of taking advantage of this offer to help contribute towards my aim of earning Gold in 2016 (Earn Year is Oct 15 > Sep 16). I'm seeking the best value route/s to take advantage of this offer.

Due to the limited time frame to book, I have a limited budget, my conditions are:
- Max Budget $250 (so I guess this rules out most International travel)
- 148k points
- Based in MEL
- Happy to do travelling over 1 or 2 days on a weekend

Done some searching already and have discovered
- Family in OOL (Cost 24,000 (in Economy) & $115.79 return for MEL>SYD>OOL>SYD>MEL)
- Friends in BNE (Cost 24,000 & $114.76 (in Economy) return for MEL>SYD>>BNE>SYD>MEL)
(Is $230 good value for 80SC?)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm looking at this offer too. The idea I am toying around with is trying to jam the most short flights into the thresholds of 600mi or 1200mi

MEL-CBR-SYD is 439mi - which could easily be done in a day in J class for 80 SC at 32000 points + $164 in fines

[Edit - I've just discovered that there are few if any J class seats (reward or otherwise) SYD-CBR on the weekends - so this is of less use]

I've been playing around with regional NSW-SYD-CBR-MEL but nothing comes in just under the cap.

I've long wanted to try and do a queensland coastal milkrun for fun rather than the miles - but the only way it is cheap is on a classic reward - so the lure of SCs has me thinking along the lines of BDB-BNE-ROK-MKY-TSV-CNS for 12000 points + fines one way in Y - getting the system to let me book that might be another thing.

I believe this is the best SC run from MEL in terms of SC/$ especially for flexible Y.
Otherwise, MEL-BNE-DRW in J.
Other than that you'd have to find your way to Tassie for some marginally better runs.

Yes, I believe it is :)

Okay, great. This offer is really luring me in. Now to decide when to go to BNE and OOL during November and/or December. A MEL<>SIN in Economy on J* in OCT and these Qantas trips in J, they will definitely help me reach Gold by Sept 2016 :D

Be careful with flight numbers on the Qld milk run. Sone of them have the same flight number across multiple sectors and unless booked as separate bookings might leave you withn fewer SC than expected.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Im sure everyone has the email about earning status on classic rewards for the next 7 days!!?
Going to SYD from PER at the end of the month. Anyone have a good value run from SYD to rack a few more SC?

If you can go via MEL or ADL that will help. SYD is not a good place to start a SR.

Since you are on a budget, just a word of caution. I did not receive offer this time round but did for the October 2014 so can't check if it is working the same.

In the October offer, once registered, the Book Now link sends you to the awards seats available page on Qantas. However, if you do a classic awards search from the usual QFF page, the available flights may not match those offered from the Book Now link. The QF call centre advised me back then to play it safe and book only those ones that appeared from the link only. I did and did not have any problems with receiving the SCs.

Check if the offer states "selected" flights in this current offer. Would not be nice for you to book all these awards flights for the status run to only be disappointed by the fine print. Hopefully someone else might have booked on flights not on the link page and still receive their SCs in that October offer to advice otherwise.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Quick question - l have enough status points to make silver but l only have flown 2 eligible qantas segments. I received this offer so l was going to use points for a return classic award flight syd to mel...will this count as eligible flights (so l should get to 4 flight segments?)

No:

The Status Credits earned through this promotion will count towards your tier membership, but not count towards the four flight rule for reaching or keeping your membership status.

My confirmation page doesn't. Anyway, I've booked my flights, they aren't until late December. I have no doubt the Status Credits will be credited within 6 weeks of the flights flown as promised. I have taken a screen shot of the Registered Confirmation page just in case.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi guys, a baby traveller here trying to make sense of the amazing volume of information you have on this forum :)

Thanks to work I'm 210 SCs short of Gold (membership year ends in July) and am sitting on a small stack of points (about 100k). I'm looking to travel the year after so hitting Gold would be ideal. As far as I can tell though, points > SCs is no longer really viable (is that right? Sadly I didn't get the offer for status on classic rewards...)

Given all that, what's the best way nowadays to do a status run - is it to just book as normal? Or JQ with a bundle? Do the suggested itineraries on the first page still make any sort of sense? I'm based in SYD and wouldn't mind a trip to PER before July, or a couple of days in Asia/elsewhere if that's what makes sense.

Appreciate any guidance on offer and sorry for the basic questions - I'm guessing there's been a massive change in QFF since last year and it's not quite as straightforward as it used to (?) be...
