Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks Awesom Andy, that was the other option I was considering!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm doing an AA.com instant upgrade status run later in the year.
But my n00b question is how do you pay with an aussie credit card.
I rang the AU number for aa.com but was charged about 10% more than what I was expecting. Some from poor exchange rates in their system and part for calling the call centre. Prefer to be charged USD on my credit card.
Any links to advice would be welcome.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

There's plenty in the AA threads on how to pay online using an Australian cc. Search for "El Segundo". I think that they've now eased up the address requirments so that you can enter an Australian address as long a you stick a zero at the front of the zip code to make it 5 digits but, again, there are threads on this.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I booked on AA.com recently with an AU address/CC no issues, think i put 0 in front of post code but didn't need any El Segundo tricks.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi Team,

Yesterday I became a QF Silver (already have Qantas Club). By the end of next week (due to a number of Qantaslink sectors over the coming 8 days) I will only need 200 (100 actual status points with the Double Status Point Offer) status points to reach Gold (thanks to the Double Status Point Offer).

I don't really have a lot of points, however by next week I will have enough to redeem at BNE-TSV JASA (which will contribute 60 Status Points). I have done a fair bit of research through this forum and this thread and to be honest I think the easiest option would be to purchase a TSV-BNE J-Class Fare ($499) - which will be fully tax deductable due to a rental property being owned in Townsville.

I have very much enjoyed reading this forum - it provided some great insights for me when I was working at Qantas (five years until September 2010).

Thanks,

C.

Hi collegekid84, and good to see your first post.

You could try a BNE-xSYD-MEL JASA if you have the points, and then do the return in discount Y. That would earn you 100 SC (x2 = 200 SC).

Check your T & Cs. For most of us the Double Status Credit offer ran out at the end of June (now only applies to international flights in August provided they were booked before June 30).

There are some different versions of the Double Status Credit deal and you may have one of the different ones; but check your offer before you buy.

Wise counsel - and may well apply in this specific case. However, there is a flurry of DSC offers around at present, for those in the last three months or so of their FF year, promoting the benefits of achieving a higher status level, whether that be Bronze to Silver, Silver to Gold, or whatever. I have seen several directed to family and friends within the past couple of weeks. The 30 June booking cutoff does not apply to any of them.

Fair warning but they already launched a new batch of Double SC offers running through to Sept this time I believe

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

You had me freaking out for a moment there. I just checked and the final day to book and fly is the 31 August. Cheers

Justbout of interest when did yours start - and was there any limit on what type of flights applied in a particular month eg the earlier offer was no flights in July but then international flights in August....

For interest, here are extracts from a couple I've seen recently (Not my own):
1. <Remember, you need to book and travel on eligible* Qantas flights between 4 Jun 2012 and 31 Aug 2012 to take advantage of the offer and help you maintain your Gold status.

>
2. <We'd like to help you reach Gold status, so we are offering double Status credits on all eligible Qantas flights when you register, book and travel from 3 Jul 2012 until 30 Sep 2012.>

SWMBO has a similar one from early June through 31 Aug to help her get back to Platinum.

Sorry; I didn't mean to cause concern. But I almost booked one myself expecting double SC when they were not available. Better to check and be sure.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Mine is back to WP Aug 1st to Oct 31st.

Which I booked BNE-ROK-MKY-ROK-BNE for $180ish @ 80sc (doubled)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

If one already has a booking in the system and then receives the double status offer, does this booking count for double status points?.

By most reported T&C's of the offer - No!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi everybody,
I'm going to do my first status run in the US. However, I have only 1 day to spare and it has to be in NY.

I looked at the flights from NY and actually booked already. $579 for 360 SCs which is quite good.

However, after I booked, I'm a bit worried about connecting time. Two of them is only 50 minutes. Will I get into trouble with it?
I'm not sure if things work like in Australia. I have to admit I didnt look closely at the time.

From MCO > ORD, do I have to go out and check in again or all check in can be done at one time and all boarding passes issued?

I could go back to LGA via MIA which will give more connecting time, same price but 30 SCs less. Too late now.

Thanks a lot.

No need to go out of the terminals. As long as your flights are on time, you should have plenty of time to make the connections. You'll get checked in all the way and given all your boarding passes...

Keep in mind airlines in America are generally pretty good with tight connections. I have connected in Cincinnati with delta and had a connection of less than half an hour. Being in first you'll be off first too. Should anything go wrong, have it sorted in the admiral clubs, much better than at the gate.
