Thanks Danger was thinking no more than $1K each AU ... will work on the above you sent me...Can you advise how I calculate the SC's earned? Do I use the Qantas calculator ? Thx

Yes, just use the QF calculator. Make sure you enter the date of travel as the SC for partner airlines is about to change (sometime next month from memory).

With the above routing you can play it around with it a bit. For instance, you might find LAX-NYC-TPA-MIA is a better option (extremely unlikely but it gives an example). Or try less flights on the outbound, more on the inbound.

Another time I've learnt is that entering something like LAX to PTY return might return a one stop routing for, as a figure, $1200. Don't be perturbed. Forcing extra stops can bring the price down.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi folks, does anyone have any favourite deals at the moment for a round-trip status run ex-SYD?
Looking for:
QF flight number
Business class
minimal cost ($2000 or less)
No overnight stay

Unlike the unfairer and worse days, SYD is now one of the better hubs for SC runs. They're still not great, of course. How many SCs are you aiming for?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Any good deals for 245 points leaving from MEL? Prefer no overnight stay and if possible to stay in the country.
That's a lot of SCs. The most economical way of getting them, without lots of short trips, is probably MEL-xBNE-DRW return for 280 in J but it will set you back at least $2,000 I would think.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Thanks for the reply... I'm embarrassed I forgot to say: 230 SC or more.
I saw in the thread that MEL-BNE-DRW return is about $1000 each way. SYD-DRW is no less than about $1800 each way :(
I'm negotiable on the overnight stay if its a weekend. Just need to complete travel by mid January

It's really status credits you're after, not points.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Any ideas for 100 status credits ex SYD in Jan or Feb??

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

230 is also a lot! If you don't mind a big trip in Y then you could consider SYD-xBNE-CNS then CNS-xSYD-PER. Flex Y for both and return on both. When I last looked you could do the trips for $1450 for 240 SCs. You might even get the chance to go home in SYD for a couple of hours.

You used to be able to get SYD-xBNE-DRW in J for $1,095 but when I took a quick look it seemd to be twice that price. Why not take a positioning flight to MEL and to the DRW run from there in J?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Thanks fpr the tip.
That's exactly what I'm planning - 'positioning' to Melbourne, a chance to see some mates and a full day flying to Darwin & back. Will be fun!

Ex-MCO/TPA/JAX is often a good starting point.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Okay, on from my request yesterday, I am in SEA for 2 weeks in Jan and are looking at seeing if i can wangle the 575SC to get to WP. I have found the following on ITA but are struggling to find a site to book it on. AA just comes back with crazy prices and google flights isn't keen on showing me combinations with the 3 stops. Could it be the short 47 minute layover that is throwing a spanner in the works?

Can anyone who has done this before please shed some light on if its possible / tricks etc? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You could try printing out the fare composition and taking it to an Australian travel agent.

Might be a dumb question but have you tried searching AA.com by schedule and selecting the flights ? That has worked in the past for me. The other option you could try is Hipmunk.com and then book through AA.

I tried both those actually and the price just goes up and up and up. I stopped when it hit 4k one way :)

I tried that - for the one way outbound I could get USD715. The return portion is coming in at USD810.

Using aa.com, I can get the SEA-PTY return flights at US$1131.60 as follows - go to aa.com, click on advanced search, then on the Multi-City tab.

Enter the flights in pairs, e.g. SEA-CLT / CLT-PTY / PTY-TPA / TPA-SEA, using the departure hours you've shown for your itinerary.

Select flights 1, 2, 3, 4 to match your itinerary. Click on 'Continue as Guest', price $1130.60.

Adjusting some of the legs may get you down to the $1026 fare that ITA gives, e.g. change the outbound sectors to SEA-MIA / MIA-PTY or SEA-PHX / PHX-PTY.
