Need 45 SC's by end of May to keep silver status. Shouldn't be too hard to get that but have never done a status run before.

Had a look around and tried to get my head around it so how is this:

SYD - MEL - BRI = $309 on a Saturday in May.

What's a decent $/SC rate?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Last month I was in SEA and found "Beecher's" in Concourse C did quite an agreeable espresso coffee, for a bonus they also make a great mac'n'cheese. Unsure if they are open at 4am on a Saturday however..

Domestic Oz?

$7 is decent, $5 is rare.

Departing SYD? If so, then it's tough than from elsewhere assuming you need to return to SYD.

Try SYD-MEL as cheap as possible on QF, then MEL-OOL on flex for $270 then OOL-SYD - That's 50 SC's for about $500.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Not cheap but maybe a QF J SYD - MEL one way and a whY back.
If you haven't tried Au dom J, there was a J sale few weeks ago.
Or J on the way back.
I am trying QF MEL dom J lounge later this year on MEL - SYD J MR.

180SC for $145?

I need to be in DEN in late Feb for a meeting. BNE-DEN

On QF, when I was looking for seats, BNE-LAX-DEN and back in discY with QF codeshare was $2166, for 120SC for the round trip (@ $18.05/SC)

So, why fly direct when you can connect? TM

BNE-SYD-LAX rtn, with the added “bonus” of trying AA SYD-LAX-SYD. Status got the “main cabin extra’ for no charge.

BNE-SYD-LAX rtn $1170 for 110 SC (@ ($10.6/SC) (booked on Bestjet after a Skyscanner search… maybe do price promise with QF next time….but need to read T&C carefully!).

LAX-LAS, LAS-PHX-DEN, DEN-LAX in P, 190SC for AU$1145 (@ AU$6.03/SC) (booked direct with aa.com through web, US site).

OK, so that is far from cheap SCs compared with possible LOTFAP SC earns, but it’s getting to/from where I need to be, within the timeframe I have available, and within budget. So how do I get that 180SC for $145 figure?

Total $2315 for 300 SC. Incremental cost of getting the additional 180 SC (ie this routing of 300SC rather than original 120SC for BNE-LAX-DEN-LAX-BNE direct on QF) is ($2315-$2166)= AU145.

If you factor in I like to have a couple of nights to get on US time before meeting (and yes I know I COULD fit in a SC run in that time, but $ preclude it…this time), LAS hotels are cheaper than DEN, so it is close to cost neutral, except for a couple of taxi runs to/from hotel in LAS. Oh, and whatever shopping I get up to in LAS (oh, on 2nd thoughts, this could get expensive...)

nitpick, but it is important to some people, specially when specifying international airport codes as is common in this thread...

BRI=Bari / Palese International in Italy

one presumes you mean Brisbane by BRI, whoose code is BNE.

thanks

I would try for SYD-MEL-OOL myself as best SC run. 45 is not too difficult to attain though.

Cheers mate.

Yeah SYD-MEL-OOL looks the goods at the moment. I got $453 for 50SC for a daytrip. Serfty mentioned earlier $7/SC was a decent rate, how would we get that? Go digging even further? Note I would prefer to do just a daytrip out of Sydney on a Sat/Sun.

Keep digging, something might turn up, although you'll probably need to wait for sale of some sort.

You can do SYD-[MEL|BNE]-CNS in a day trip or overnight for around the $400 mark for 50 SCs.

Here's an example:

If the connection is illegal just pick some alternative flights with F availability and contact AA. They should reissue your ticket free of charge.

Yep this has happened to me on numerous occasions after the AA schedule changes. Just find another flight with A/P availability and give the AAngels a call.

The trick is to look for allowable connections. That then allows status earning on 2 flights for only a lower increase in cost. For example one that is popular is ADL-xSYD/MEL-AKL/CHC/WLG. The cost of a flight ADL to new zealand isn't double the cost of east coast to new zealand, and can be the same cost sometimes. But starting in Syd makes this difficult because the better connections happen in SYD.

Ah I understand it now. Thanks Kev for your suggestion, I'll keep rummaging around but that looks the best at the moment.

Another reasonable option is SYD-BNE-MKY in Y for $356 and 40 SCs.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I get 40 for SYD-BNE-MKY return in Discount Economy, or 80 in Full Economy return...? How is 50 achieved? Is that a mix of Discount and Full?
No, it's much simpler than that.....my notes were wrong. Apologies, you are right it should be 40. I have altered my earlier post.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I would use MEL as a transit point, if not living in MEL than SYD/BNE, (noting ADL - BNE will earn more SC than transitting MEL/SYD), but MEL is a good transit point, because the terminals are linked, and walkable.
Unlike SYD and BNE where you have to rely on the bus for these 2 cities.
$7/$8 can be done, MEL - AKL/WLG - SYD - MEL in J, about $1600 or so.
Must have been a sale when I checked, its now $2242, about $11.21 per SC.
In indulgence, really, but if you only do it once, this would be one the better more $$$ trans Tasman trips, apart from going F of course Au - NZ.

Since this is a thread about Qantas, there is a free terminal transfer in Sydney and Brisbane provided by Qantas.

But if having to take a paid option.
The train between sydney terminals is about $5.80, just buy a terminal transfer ticket. The train to transfer in Brisbane is $4.50
