Since this is a thread about Qantas, there is a free terminal transfer in Sydney and Brisbane provided by Qantas.

But if having to take a paid option.
The train between sydney terminals is about $5.80, just buy a terminal transfer ticket. The truing to transfer in Brisbane is $4.50

I used the TBus in BNE this week from QF domestic. Stops at VA domestic then International terminal. Wasn't asked for boarding pass or any other doc to show i was transferring to another flight.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm in NYC next month, looking at having a bit of a jaunt down in the Caribbean or otherwise in central America for some scuba diving. Any suggestions for killing 2 birds and making it a reasonable status run?

Perhaps start from just outside NYC and visit the sunshine state on the way. Just a thought.

I have a 41 minute connection in DCA on my PTY run later this year. ExpertFlyer says the MCT at DCA is 45 minutes yet this itinerary was booked directly on AA's site. On top of that I don't think I'm going to be able to HLO. Shall be fun.

Correction: it was booked with an OTA.

It's not illegal, Domestic to Domestic for AA at DCA is 30 min MCT

Well I wish I knew how to read EF.

At DCA it's highly dependent on which flight in and out, due to the layout of that airport. What flight numbers are you flying?

I believe almost all the carribean flights go via MIA anyway so I probably won't have a choice on the latter :)

I'll have a play when I get back from 3 conferences in 2 weeks  Hopefully the costs don't blow out as we get closer to departure.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

So, if doing the status run into NZ with recent aquire 50% bonus - I presume I am safe arriving into Emirates at 1pm arrival into Auckland and with HLO depart Emirates at 17.30?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

So running some searches through the Matrix today, I don't seem to be able to find any runs HNL-PTY after May 2016. Possibly they've closed this off now? Or is it seasonal?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

For those who can do runs out of NZ:

There's currently a J and F sale on trans-tasman. Just grabbed AKL-MEL-DRW-SYD-AKL with SYD-AKL in EK F for NZD$2240 which nets 375 SC which is NZD$5.97/SC or AUD$5.57/SC.

As an aside, the connection in SYD from dom to int is 1h20m. If the DRW flight is delayed do you think they will put me on the next mornings EK flight in F? Or a QF flight in J with some form of refund?

Plenty of time. Use OLCI so you have your BP for the return leg, and head to the QF lounge until the EK lounge opens.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

NZ_Flyer, did you have to ring up QF telephone sales NZ phone number to make the booking, or did you go through internet bookings, ignoring the error link that "seats are full/not available for some flights"?
This is not the error which used to have the orange bar, but the error at 2nd page in the booking process.
A bit off topic, another earthquake in Christchurch today, 5.9 this time. Hope the CHC airport will not have to be closed.
For Pushka, it is possible, as you don't pass international immigration at AKL, just have to go through international security screening.
The screening is one level down from the lounges, you can see the NZ airport police people at a certain angle as you go up to AKL 1-6 near that double door to the lounges, ...
Its a bit of a walk to gate 15/16 where EK use at the far end of AKL int though.
Personally, if CHC airport is given the ok by the time you plan to travel, after todays earthquake, I would fly into there (EK metal but QF flight number in F SYD - CHC), get a JQ NZ dom flight to AKL, (over a long weekend), and then fly back to Au from AKL (EK metal QF flight number AKL - MEL/SYD/BNE.
Less chances of getting quizzical looks/questions at Aust Border smartgate ticket pickup point as you leave the secure zone at our int airports.

Considering Pushka is after a same day turnaround, suggesting a three day trip is hardly relevant. And all to avoid a Border Security agent giving you a funny look ...

... it would be the jandals. ;)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

AP is sensitive to the looks of border agents.

Whereas I lack imagination since I noticed no looks at all when doing MEL-SIN-BKK-KUL-SIN-KUL-BKK-MEL in 40 hours.

I called QF up. Couldn't even book it online, just got the orange error.

No. No jandals. Must go google what they are. :p

Same day turn around poochie as mentioned.

In on AA238 and out on AA1867.

The YUPP/KUPP specials aren't usually available until the end of schedule. I would give it another month or so and see what's available.

Applicable MCT for you is 30 mins. Be prepared to move quickly though depending what gates you are coming in/out of.

It's not just YUP and KUP anymore... there's everything down to NUP fares now. NUP, SUP, LUP, MUP, KUP, etc.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

note current ex-NZ F sale ($899 NZD) is pretty quick - ticketing must be done on/by 18FEB16

Pushka, the only real issue you could have is the unlikely long delay or cxl to your outbound to AKL. It's pretty rare though, but did happen the other day in MEL due to a landing incident (blown tyres) on the inbound EK406 and the AKL tag was cancelled - sometimes there are a few hours delays on the inbounds, but I think that's why there's a 4-5 hour ground time at AKL to mop up some of that. If returning to departure point EK often turn the same aircraft anyway, so with HLO it's a no brainer really.

As for border security honestly I don't know why it's a concern either way. It's none of their business or concern if you're doing a day return or staying 6 months. All they care about is contraband. If you have none, then no issue. Only some on here seem to have some sort of issue with people doing their job. Me, I never get anymore more than a "Welcome back Richard, straight through to the exit mate"

(aside: how long till the ebola form is reborn as the zika form? :D )

Even if they do ask questions just say "Points mate".
