Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I need 30 SC's by the end of September and for September I am based in MEL.
MEL-BNE return is an obvious option for about $400.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
How many QFF points do you have?

A one way JASA MEL/CBR costs 16000 points + $100 - there's 40 SC's.

Or MEL-SYD-MEL with Flexi saver one-way gives 30 SC's for $365.

JASA to SYD should have similar costs, but then you have the option of coming back on whatever is cheapest, be it QF or another airline.

Melbourne Avalon - BNE Jetstar Starter $101 each way or from Tullamarine for $127. You can still use the lounges etc being SG.

If you follow AwesomAndy's suggestion then I'd get the JASA to SYD one way and then use a Jetstar Price Match against Tiger for the other journey with the 10% off (you don't get points or SC's) for around $45.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I am averse to using points as I have a household agreement that points I accumulate are to be used for spouse travel, generally on RTW tickets.

Thanks SERFTY.
This seems like a good option if I need a quicker turnaround than possible with MEL-BNE.

Sorry to mislead you gizzard but I was SG for many years until this current year and need the 30SC to regain SG. (I have updated on QFF.)
However, I am a QANTAS Club member.
If I do Jetstar from Tullamarine, can I use lounges as a QANTAS Club member?
Do Jetstar flights give the same SC's as QF flights?
Thanks

Yes, you'd be able to use the QP in MEL, BNE etc when flying Jetstar.
Yes, as long as you take the option to pay the extra for that benefit. Normal price from MEL-BNE is $105 from Tullamarine but I allowed for the extra $22 that you have to pay to convert from a Jetstar Starter (no SC's etc) to Jetstar Starter Plus. I did, however get the maths wrong and the fare is $131 (not $127) each way.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm based in Perth and need 200 SC to make gold. Any cheapish options to make it this year? Will be making use of the double SC promotion so only need 100 SC normally.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I dont know if people are aware but jetstar is having a sale so it is $29 mel - syd plus the $17 to earn SC in Y they have a decent range of dates and I think the sale is on until the 10th although it started yesterday afternoon so some of the better times/dates may now be sold out.

What dates for your SC offer? Do you have enough points to do a JASA run?

You could, for example, do a JASA one-way PER-ADL or MEL for around 49k points or around 36k and $150 and then Jetstar back on a Starter Plus for around $200 (MEL being cheaper than ADL). It depends whether, price, points, comfort are most important to you.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Need 90 SC for QFF Gold by end of Sept. Any suggestions for a status run from PER?

QF website quoted me $947 for PER>SYD (40 SC) SYD>MEL (10 SC) MEL>PER (40SC). The flights to and from PER are QF flexi saver earning more SC than discount economy.

Would love to hear any better ideas than what I have found.

Thanks

I'd be looking at a JASA to ADL/MEL/SYD return...although not sure the ADL one gets you enough SC's

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just saw on the QF website that a QF any seat award in business PER-SYD can be had for 36,000 pts + $144, if its a non-peak time. Is this a good deal? Flight will be on a 747-400. How's the J service on this aircraft?

Also, has anyone had any difficulty getting points awarded for a U class any seat award flight?

thanks

I would say that's very good considering the classic award is 36k. I haven't flown J domestic on the 747 since they were re-introduced on the PER-SYD run but I had no issues with it when I did fly. Still a skybed.

I've only done two any seat awards and both posted without issue.

I fly SYD-PER on the 744 with some regularity... Love 744 J class. As domestic J it's about as good as it gets, and it has improved in the past 3 months (thanks Virgin :) )

Favorite seat are in rows 4 & 16.

I'd go one further and have a look at PER/CNS or PER/TSV as it may be the same points.

You could rough it over to SYD or MEL on a Jetstar Starter Plus - the red-eyes are only $221 for 20 SCs and then treat yourself to the JASA back for those $144 + 36k points to earn you another 80 SC to reach the 90 that you're after. You may prefer just to pay the $27 more to go on QF metal to get to MEL on an early morning flight.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hello

My husband needs 230 SC for Gold by end November. I'm new at this so trying to read and learn on this fantastic site!

I'm looking at him trying to earn these SC on paid flights in October 27/28 over a Sat/Sun. Just trying to figure where he should go from starting in Sydney......What type of run would be required.......Sydney to Auckland in J an option whilst it is on sale???

Any suggestions very much appreciated!!

This is the option I decided to go with.
QF MEL-SYD Flexi-Saver $257
JQ SYD-MEL Starter Plus $91
Total: $348
gizzard's suggestion of MEL-BNE return on JQ starter plus was a good one: it would have cost somewhat less but would have taken longer with both flights on JQ.
However, I was a bit nervous about having an initial flight with JQ in case something happened (traffic, train problem, for examples) and I was late getting to the airport. I know QF would work with me on getting me to Sydney in such cases, but have no idea what to expect with JQ. The extra money was peace of mind for me.

JQ may be an extraordinarily generous and supportive airline, but I just do not know that.

Sydney-Auckland-Sydney will only earn 160 SC; not enough unless he has other flying to do?

Does he have enough points to consider a JASA (Any Seat Award in J)?

If so, he could look at a JASA SYD-xBNE-TSV-xBNE-MEL then a JQ Starter Plus or Economy MEL-SYD for exactly 230.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks for the replies :D

No he only has 30k points as I used a fair bit for a recent trip for the kids and myself!

He has managed to attain Silver within 3 months as his job has changed from office based to out in the field, so seeing he only needs 230 between now and 30 November he would like to give it a go. (3 domestic trips already booked for next 4 weeks but I have already taken the SC into consideration).

I appreciate the suggestions!
