wow.. didn't even cross my mind to check hobart.. thank you!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

looking for suggestion on banking 120SCs by end month (qf gold) with the start and end city being SYD and a need to complete the SC run within one calendar weekend day.

the two JASAs i have found so far:
- SYD <-> ADL for 48K points + $315
- SYD -> CBR -> MEL/BNE -> SYD for 48K points + ~$290

what other options (happy to entertain non-JASA now) on minimising both pts and $$?

thanks in advance

Are there any availability for the run to TSV? It's only 100SCs, but is available for a lower cost, and definitely doable in 1 day. Then, the other 20SCs can come as easily as SYD-MEL and back on a red-e on another day of your choosing.

He wouldn't need a flight to MEL as it's 100 SC JASA one-way to TSV or 25 SC YASA so he'd be looking at 125 SC for the pair. That would be 33k + $258 so more in cash but fewer points used but it would also mean a trip to TSV in Y in one of the directions.

Of course you are correct... it's 100SC one-way SYD-BNE-TSV in J... silly me... *smack head*

Good JASA run is TSV/BNE/DRW return in gives 280 status points.

requires 48K points and $301

I did this run May last year.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Still want to do that run, sounds great value (even better with DSC) and chalk up another city I haven't seen (DRW).

My thoughts exactly LW :)

I guess I should enter my BNE lounge times in for next week then ;)

Me 3, except I need some 48k points to spare :(

That said, I have been to both TSV and DRW, just not that run. Main issue I see with that run is positioning. It doesn't skew the economics greatly, but from BNE you need to invest 2-3 days.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

The crew were a bit perplexed when I did my TSV/DRW run, was asked by FA on re boarding in DRW on same aircraft "whats the go you just got off" replied "didn't like Darwin" SFA said " you didn't have anytime to see it!", came over later sat down asked me what it was all about.

Did it in one day, slept well that night though :). Could make a weekend of it.

It was better when the A333 was on it :). Had the OGRE Friday coming home (VH-OGR), and the crew were keen to live up the the aircrafts rep taking close to 3 hours to complete first service. I enjoy having a choice but sadly ex DRW often there is not one, I dont do red eyes!

AirNorth fly non-stop DRW/TSV so you could always position back rather than face the walk of shame from the crew on the return DRW/BNE flight.

Alternatively spend 15K Priority Club points & $70.00 & stay at the Hol Inn DRW or Hol Inn Esplanade for a night.

What sort of Status Run do you call that!!

Shame on you OBB for even suggesting such ludicrous behaviour ;)

I'm looking forward to my walk of shame next week!

What kind of time gap do you leave between flights? And what happens if one of your flights is delayed causing you to miss the next flight?

I got a similar reaction turning around in DRW during my SC run last year - I made the mistake of launching straight into an explanation of status runs though. The FA's eyes rapidly started glazing over, and eventually she just said "I see" or similar and left me alone :D I think if it even happens again I'll just tell them I had to hand deliver a very important package... although that could lead to it's own share of strange looks and potential trouble ;)

Did it in one day, slept well that night though :). Could make a weekend of it.

Ditto - although I also did MEL-xADL-xBNE-TSV the day before and TSV-xBNE-xCBR-xADL-MEL the day after. That was a loooong three days!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

there is some interesting new options ex- OOL.. e.g. OOL-SYD-MEL-HBA, OOL-SYD-BNE, OOL-SYD-BNE-TSV, OOL-SYD-BNE-CNS.

Im doing the ool-syd-mel-hba next week, 24k plus about $150 for 120sc, double promo gives 240sc.

You're safe on the BNE-xDRW-BNE sectors as the same plane turns around in DRW to bring you back to BNE - no risk of missing the connection. For everything else... it's one of the risks you take doing a SC run, a missed connection can throw the whole thing into chaos. Best you can do is try to ensure reasonable connection times, and if you still miss a connection hope that QF can re-route you on a different service so you can pick up the SC run later on (and claim original routing credit).

The walk of shame was why I couldn't bring myself to do a status run with an immediate turnaround, even though it would have essentially guaranteed no wasted time, no missed flights and no overnight and other costs.

It was better when the A333 was on it :).

I know! I did this run once and it was a fantastic flight, double SC earning opportunity aside :)

Good to see - I don't mind TSV but one can only go there so many times before it all gets a bit familiar. ASP was interesting and I wouldn't mind doing one of these OOL ones.

How are you getting those figures.

I'm trying to do OOL-SYD-BNE, but its 32K points plus $160ish

Am I missing something

Try OOL-HBA on, say, 28 November and you will get them. I can't see the route you want for less than 16k + $271 though.
