Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks both!
When you say Syd-Mel-Ool, are we flying down to melbourne then buying another ticket to Ool?
Is that a custom itinerary that we can do via a phone call?

Cheers

no, but a reasonable assumption.

What I mean is that if you do a search on the QF website, for example Sydney to Gold Coast, you will get a direct flight option, and one via Melbourne that is only a little bit more for the connection, if one purchases the connection you thus get double the points and Status Credits for little extra outlay(apart from time, of course). This is thus a more economic way to accrue SC's.

Although I just did a few example dates as I wanted to post a screen shot of what I meant, and it looks like maybe QF have changed this as it was showing over $1400 as the cheapest connection, but you most definitely can do it for OOL-MEL and v.v. eg: OOL-MEL on the nonstop flight (QF881) is $670 one way in Business, but via SYD (QF865/487 on one day I am looking at) it is $681.

I'm now not so certain about the SYD-MEL-OOL thing, but it may still be possible to do via a TA or other method - I don't have time to check if this is a new fare rule restriction(like married pairs or similar) or what but it can still be done for MEL-OOL routings.

hope this makes some sense.

You can also see some cases, where a flex econ ticket on the direct is more expensive than going via SYD so one could earn 30 SC connecting for $290 over 15SC for the direct at $379. - in the above screenshot

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm back with a mk II... a new record breaking (price, SC's and c/pt wise) SC run.

Same YVR-PTY fare with 14 flights, 2 of which are AA B788's. 1020 SC's for $1013.40 AUD which is 99c AUD/SC or 76c USD/SC.

For QF platinums, you'd earn 33400 QF points or 3.03c/pt. A true points run for those who redeem their QF points on things with a value of greater than 3c/pt.

PM me if you are interested.

This fare is still around... and in line with these rumours posted here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....er-program/the-end-of-cheap-status-78527.html

it'd be a good run to lock in before AA changes their classes around!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm not sure AA have announced a date for the switch but would you think existing bookings won't change?

I think they would change all existing bookings over to the new codes - no reason not to. I wonder though if you could claim ORC through QF based on the original booking codes - provided you have the eTicket/itinerary that has those codes.

I'll be in ORD and am looking to do a status from Dec 1 (beginning of my new membership year) Happy to consider anything at around 1k or less if it nets me a decent SC haul. Only catch is I'll most likely be returning to MEL from LAX on the evening of Dec 2 or 3.

Try this one; ORD-DFW-PHX-GEG 270SCs for US$488 US$1.81 per SC.

I'm doing it on 22 Oct.

Are you stopping in GEG or doing a quick turnaround? I like it very doable option! If I had to spend a night I guess I could park myself in a micro brewery for the evening...

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Is there any update on when AA is likely to re-code Domestic F to J? I have a US trip in November and was looking to do an SC run or two whilst there. If I book the tickets now are they likely to be retrospectively downgraded to J or would F SCs still apply?

The last time I checked FT it was mid-February so you should be ok.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Thank you so much for the quick reply Princess Fiona.

No worries at all. I just had another quick look at the two threads running about it and nothing further posted apart from possible announcement Jan '17 with codes to change Feb.

Mrscove has been asking me about getting to P1 this year. She is getting a bit warped to do with status.

I'm actually staying in GEG this year. I tried to do it last year and got caught in a weather event in Dallas.

Make sure she remembers the 2700 SC requirement for QF flights as these runs aren't much use for P1 :)

She loves it.

Maybe you should get her to sign up to AFF cove.

Hope to see you both in the next few weeks/months in PER :)

Easy booking through AA.com with just two multi city legs. I did have to reuse the old El Segundo trick during payment though.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Mrscove has close to zero interest in Facebook,You Tube, Linked In,HFC,FFA,Reddit and lots of other things. She does look at Twitter just to check what our sons are saying.
All I need is a magic wand to pull a double status credit offer for her seeing she is just under half way to P1.
