Have you actually looked? PER-KUL-CMB on AirAsia can be had for around AUD $220 oneway on multiple dates across the next couple of months. I'd say that's pretty economical. Took <2 minutes to find. Fares back to Australia ex CMB, well the world is your oyster.

Edit: I should have spent longer than 2 minutes looking... Can actually be had for AUD $183 on some days.

Yes, I had actually looked but was trying to find SC earning fares to CMB.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

It's a few extra $$ but take AirAsia PER-KUL and MH or UL KUL-CMB.

At this point AirAsia will soon have the only "decent" arrival time into PER from Asia.

Happy wandering

Aren't Qatar earning rates and SC's very low on QFF due to EK tie up? Eg Y SC's when flying J??

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I thought that about the earn rates too. The calculator of the Qantas site says otherwise though. I made sure to select QR too.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi Dudditz
I'm looking at booking this to get me back to Platinum - Gold is no use to me as I have a lifetime Qclub membership. I need PLATINUM!!!!
With a slight change as I will be flying from HNL - LAX - ORD - OMA - DFW - PHX - HNL
It will take 2 days overnight LAX - ORD
I can do it in Y for $1098USD or J for $2307 USD
It will be horrible I know.
How do I work out SC's earned though - the AA site doesnt seem to give this information although I have not paid for flights yet?

Thanks for any help you can give me. I

That is a very expensive status run. Have a look even just a few pages prior to your post and you will find much better deals.

And as mentioned, be wary of AA's changing of coding to the fare bucket for the trips. All of your flights will actually be in First not Business but depending on when you fly you will only earn status credits at the Business rate.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Try doing HNL-PTY or SJU instead. A lot cheaper and easily rack up more sc. You find the SC on the QF site. Look for calculators under frequent flyer drop down.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm back with a mk II... a new record breaking (price, SC's and c/pt wise) SC run.Same YVR-PTY fare with 14 flights, 2 of which are AA B788's. 1020 SC's for $1013.40 AUD which is 99c AUD/SC or 76c USD/SC.For QF platinums, you'd earn 33400 QF points or 3.03c/pt. A true points run for those who redeem their QF points on things with a value of greater than 3c/pt.PM me if you are interested.
To save everyone PMing me still about this fare, this fare (and the LAX/PTY fare) went up dramatically in price at the very end of September. The YVR/PTY fare is now about $400-500 AUD more expensive but it still represents decent value around the $2 AUD/SC mark if you're travelling before AA changes the fare classes next year.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I would appreciate some advice from the brains trust for a small conundrum I have.

I am WP with a year-end of 31 December and I need to fly DRW-PER (23/24 Dec) and PER-DRW (8/9 Jan). I am fully requalified for 2016 so I don't need to earn SCs for the outbound flight. However with a lack of award seats available on DRW-PER near Christmas I'll need to shell out cash and would like thoughts on the best way to do so.

Option 1: DRW-PER (Y - $435 or J - $749) and PER-DRW (award or disc Y on VA - $290) - but this earns SCs in the wrong year but J is comparatively cheap compared to Y
Option 2: DRW-PER (Y - $435) and PER-DRW (as above or J - $749) - earns SCs in the right year but is comparatively more expensive (or otherwise I forego SCs)

I'm leaning towards option 1 if the extra SCs this year helps with the unofficial 3 year requalification rule. My past three years were 920 (2014), 1405 (2015, first year WP), 1215 (this year excluding above). Does anyone know how QF calculate the 3 year rule? Is it simply 3600/3 (i.e. I need 980 more SCs until 31 Dec 2017) or would it be 3800/3 since I needed 1400 in my first year to make WP? (I appreciate that since it is unofficial it won't necessarily be granted, but I don't know if I will requalify in my own right next year yet).

Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions I haven't thought of?

Thanks!

QF comfort seat? As you are already a QF WP, you already have QP access, and can sit up ahead on the 737.
I have done that with QF transTasman. Already have QP membership by the time I flew the comfort seat route.
Edit: comfort seat request does earn you double QPoints and double QF SC, your own plus another set of each.

Thanks for your thoughts - I figured if I wanted to go down the comfort seat route I may as well get a business seat. All good in the end though, I ended up booking an award seat for Christmas Day instead. Now it's just whether I want to shell out business for the return!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi, I'm new to QF and doing a gold status challenge. Annoyingly I just booked a whole bunch of VA flights then QF called..

My work flying should see me qualify for the status challenge. But I have a few questions, some specific, some broad. Thanks for your help!

1. Will I still earn the 'normal' amount of SCs when using points + pay? Is this considered good value?

2. What are peoples hot tips for good SC earn out of Melbourne?

3. Domestic work destinations include Sydney, Devonport or Launceston, Wagga Wagga, Brisbane, Perth, Coffs Harbour. Fares would be lowest at suitable times. Anyone have any tips for those destinations?

4. How many $/SC should I be aiming for?

5. Does Qantas have family pooling or any other SC promos ?

1. Points + Pay (as opposed to a standard award ticket) does earn SCs. It is an expensive use of points to gain status.

2. Look at something via SYD instead of direct for your BNE/PER flights. MEL-xSYD-OOL can be ok.

4. If you can get to $5-6/SC domestically you will be doing well. Head to the US or SEA it should get down to $3 and less.

5. No to family pooling. QF occasionally have bonus SC offers, but these are usually targeted.

I will leave others to answer 3.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

For Dannyism, check out the QF website, there are some QF J flights for the Dec long weekend.
I live in ADL, and can see flights to SYD for $500, usually it can go for up to $800.
Going across to NZ can also reduce the cost per SC.
Due to my work, I can't and don't think I will make it to the US, but on here, it says that is where the cheapest SC can be earnt.
MEL - PER is a good 80 SC in J, but the cost can be prohibitive, up to $2000. However for that 80 SC, you could pay about $800 MEL - AKL in QF's partner EK J. $12xx for EK F.
How many SC does QF say you need? And in what time frame.
If you want to try EK F and J, NZ will be doable for a short hop.
Mind you, not cheap, but you can earn 200 SC for around $2000. And yes, I do realise, $10 per SC is pricey/expensive.
Flying MH will see you earn no SC in J (Au to SEAsia), as a QF Qpoints member. You can fly MEL - SIN with EK with a QF code, and then fly around Asia to earn SC cheaply with MH.

MH J doesn't earn SCs?!

I have a J HKT-KUL-SYD trip coming up and I thought it'd earn at least flexi Y SCs rates =O

If crediting to BA some J flights don't earn so need to be careful of the bucket you book. Don't know if QF is the same?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Looks like the Pooch has hit on another stealth J sale (!)
MEL-ADL 469ish, MEL-BNE 649

(these are more expensive than the one the other week, but still good value)

digging deeper via EF:
IBUSSALE

applicable travel period 10DEC16-21SEP17
tickets on sale till 25OCT (same as companion sale)

looks like QF has responded to the VA sale by providing single seats at a slightly higher level than the companion deal.

good pick up, Pooch!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I got mine at $409 though.
Will make me PS to 2018 after my Dec F and J flights transTasman.
Plus ADL - SYD whY.
All up 260 QF SC.
Have chosen to fly only once a year at the pointy end from Aug 18. TransTasman of course.
