Transfer desks in SIN and HKG are airside and someone manually transfers luggage to onward connections. Just not sure about KUL.
To be honest, I wouldn't really trust them even if they offer it. It's a bit like an Asian version of Australia - my priority tagged luggage came out last the other time.

Hmmm. I'm arriving [in CAI] on that 11.45am and departing on the 1.40pm. Separate tickets, of course. It seems no checked baggage is a must.

Did you have to buy a visa? If so, what was the cost?

There is no visa required as long as you head to the transfer desk and stay airside (no checked baggage).

Let us know if you are able to get boarding passes before arriving in CAI.

OT, but what other airlines offer this service in SIN?
Just about every airline. Even 3K. You need to find the relevant transfer desk.

e.g. QF is at transfer C

Hi to the gurus here, I have just had a 50% QF status bonus email arrive today and after my planned trips this earning year I need 140 SC's to maintain WP status.
Melbourne is home and I would prefer to get it done within a month.
One day trip preferred without a super early start.
Any ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Try MEL-BNE-CNS in Flex Y for 120 + bonus
or MEL-SYD-CNS in Flex Y for 100 + bonus.

Gee, I'm not a morning person too but this makes it a bit harder :)

anything headed to CNS will involve a reasonably early start. One could do an OOL run with one part in J. The goal is 100SC(+50 bonus)
I think MEL-OOL (J), OOL-SYD-MEL (Flex Y) will do the job for under $1k and have a 0930ish departure. going to CNS via BNE (not SYD as one earns less SC) would also work - a r/t in Flex Y would get you 120SC pre bonus (a one way discount Y would not do the trick, as you'd fall short by about 10SC).
If you can handle an overnight then OOL works, or even take advantage of the current NZ sale and head over there J one way (80 SC) and back disc Y (20) would also work.
If you don't want to use your passport, then I think best bet is OOL (Gold Coast) or CNS.

Thanks for your help,

Have booked MEL-OOL (J) for tomorrow as it suits me with friendly hours.

Many Thanks.

Good to know, thank you. I'll be passing through mid-January.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Looks like I have an unexpected week of peace and quiet coming up - and a chance to regain WP. With cheap USA SCs on the out, I thought I might have one last go but fear I've lift my run too late - and my timing is pretty awful, clashing with xmas travel..

Would appreciate any pointers for:
Time period: 31 Dec to 7 Jan
Location: Can position anywhere in the world, but presume the US will be best value?
SCs required: The more the better. Somewhere in the 800 to 900 range would be awesome!
Cost is more important than time...

Thanks!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

If you are going to do USA-centric MR, make sure you factor in delays with their winter weather, so fewer sectors in a day are better (or if going A>B>C, make sure there are A>C directs).

Perhaps somewhere that doesn't celebrate Xmas (Asia/Middle East) might be better?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I did MEL-BNE-CNS return in J on one day last membership year under the DSC and I was exhausted afterwards. It was well worth it though.

480 SC cha-ching! Been there, done that, got the tshirt (and Carl's Jnr at BNE :) )

yes it's a long couple of sectors in 737 J cabins :D

At this stage I only need to book another 360SC of travel for the year to retain WP. Now that I have WP I'm thinking I may visit NZ for the first time if I end up needing to do a run.

A pity the F sale just finished yesterday :)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

With the changes to the number of points needed for upgrades I may just book a more expensive fare for an international long haul rather than doing a run. Depends a bit on pricing and timing of travel.

Whilst I'd like to try F, I don't see flying F short-haul international as a good value for money when it comes to a status run.

Have you crunched the numbers to compare the dollar cost per status credit?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

No. I guess I'll look into it if I decide to do a NZ run. A run to NZ may turn out to be unnecessary for me this year.

You won't have time to crunch the number when the sale starts. I'm sure you're aware how few F seats there are on each plane. ;)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Took a quick look at the SYD international airport website, havent checked QF yet, now that EK flies BKK - SYD - CHC, is there still an EK 380 SYD - AKL?
SYD Airport seems not to show EK SYD - AKL morning flight.
