Just a quick update to say I completed my recent MR on AA and have achieved my WP for next year.

As has been stated before, HLO, allow plenty of time to clear security/arrive airside initially and I found the AA app to be a great tool for keeping me up to date on gates, departures, terminal maps, etc.

Thanks in particular to madrooster, cwphoto and serfty for their assistance/advice but also everyone else who continue to share their experiences on AFF.

A comment on NZ F runs.

the recent F sale offered r/t fares for just over $1700 giving 240 SC for that price, This is about $7/SC which in the "local area" (ie: outside USA) is actually a decent return for SC with fun experience of EK F thrown in. Sure, most can't afford these jaunts and it may not be value to many, but on an earn basis it's not horrendous IMHO.

It's not for everyone for sure, but for those with limited time or unable to go all the way to and around the US, it can be a fun way to earn a few hundred SC's.

Of course this ex-AU F sale was *RARE* (the last one I recall was ~2 years ago). The usual combo that works out around the same value is to combine a J sale fare AU-NZ at around $650ish with an ex-NZ F sale fare (NZD $899ish).

Ans yes, EK do DXB-SYD-AKL and DXB-BKK-SYD-CHC v.v.

EK418 SYD 1040 AKL 1555.

I'd note of interest that when I left AKL last weekend the SYD flight was retimed to leave around 1630, and routed AKL-SYD-BKK-DXB, so the CHC flight would go CHC-SYD-DXB. that earlier timing means an early evening arrival in SYD which has a number of benefits (connections).

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm thinking of positioning myself in SIN or BKK by redeeming a J or F flight. What are the hot tips for mileage run around asia ? Sri Lanka seems to what everyone is going crazy about lately..

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Finnair has a sale in J from SIN to various destinations to Europe. My recommendation is from SIN-HEL-MAD with Finnair for 200 SC. Then a separate booking with LAN (or whatever their called now), MAD-FRA in J for 60 SC. Do the reverse and your knocking on the door for Gold.

I would very much suggest something like BKK-MNL return with Malaysian airlines which I recently did for $420 and returns 240SC. Other similar bookings are available from Bangkok. This will be at least half the cost of a trip to Europe, $/SC. If you intend to turn it into a holiday, well where you want to end up will guide you.

Just a FYI of yet another ex-NZ QF/EK Y/J/F sale is on now till 24NOV16 for travel from 05DEC16-30SEP17

:)

Nice. Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll even need to do a run yet and don't want to book one only to find it's unnecessary.

Wow.. In J yeah ?

Yup! it's via KUL so 40SCs for each BKK-KUL leg and 80SCs for each KUL-MNL leg. To sweeten the deal for me, it was cheaper to do this on my trip to LHR than to fly 'direct' from BKK, or to fly from Aus straight to MNL, although I would have had (slightly) cheaper options from different positioning cities.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Affirmative. I don't think they allow for same day turns in MNL, though (and certainly not without a sparrow's start in BKK).

Sorry I missed this. Yes you can turn around the same day, both of my flights got in from KUL at 12.20 and left MNL at 17.20 (to KUL). I suggest leaving MNL airport asap due to the disappointing lounge compared to the large selection available at KUL, or BKK (I stopped over for 12 hours each time and enjoyed a 'bed' in the quiet zone of the KUL satellite lounge which was quite reasonable).

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Afternoon All..

Just receieved a 50% more SCs offer email to use between today and the 1st Dec, for bookings up to 25 March 2017. Strange timing maybe, my year just finished and I'm currently sitting on a massive 0SCs as work travel has been quiet this month.

So the question is how best to make use of this offer. No idea yet of work travel patterns for the year to come so thinking i might just do a MEL - BRI - CNS for a weekend in flexi Y for 120 +60 for around $900. Has anyone expanded this to fly MEL - BRI - TSV - CNS and return? If so can this be booked via the QF website or by calling up? Else anyone any suggestions for other reasonable earners around the $1000, maybe max to $1500? No real target in mind, just aiming to get some SCs banked as insurance. WP for last 5+ years, home port in MEL.

Thanks BG

Maybe consider a return tip in economy to LAX/DFW - with a normal minimum 90SC/100SC earn that's 135SC/150SC for $1000.

(Book with a Gift Voucher to save the $70(?) cc fee.)

(Don't forget the 18K/19.6K WP QFF points earn)
