re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Unintended maybe, but as it happens, SEA can be a good place to start/transit for a USA status run. I did one mid-year, and although the start/end was SFO, SEA made for some good transits (I passed through SEA four times over eight days), including:

SEA-PHX-DFW-ORD-BOS//BOS-ORD-DFW-PHX-SEA for 720 SC, over two days. The average cost for the whole 25 x segment status run was about $AU2.67/SC

There's the matter of positioning costs, but if you are already in the USA, then it works out well. Nowhere near as good now that AA J class is bursting onto the scene. :(

Edit: I always had a laugh at how some ridiculed AA domestic First Class. To me it was always about the SC's. Anything else was a bonus. :D

The obsession with abbreviating everything.

we had a project at work recently called NMA (it meant No More Acronyms, needless to say it wasn't very successful...)

Mviy... am at 33% to LTS.
Long odyssey ahead.
20 years to go... 47 now... 2310 now... 240 QF SC per year... 2400 all up...
7000 aim...
Bugga.

Yep. Agreed. Though in terms of positioning costs, Airasia offers ~$300 return from AU to BKK... from there you basically get access to sub $2/SC

That's a very long road ahead there... I have just passed the 50% mark to LTG, but probably won't get there ever. Figured that if I won't be flying that much, LTG isn't going to be of much use either. Status isn't very useful when I'm on the ground.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Awesome Andy, it could be worth it it IF QF cared more for us, (more benefits under LTS/LTG) but nope.

This is totally off topic for this thread but I'll comment anyway...

what exactly do you expect by more for you? Honestly, and no offence meant, but you're simply not flying enough.

Consider, if you flew the 700(then 600) SC a year, it would still take time to get to the 7k LTSC for LTS, but you'd also earn Gold every year, and there would be your "more benefits" right there - including the loyalty bonus at 500. You're saying QF doesn't "care" but then again why should they if you're not earning that many
SC's/year (relatively).

Like many others here I'm well past LTG (currently nearly 22.5k SC) and there's zero love for us, without even the prospect of LTP (if only!).

In this instance, with all the "enhancements" and devaluations of the entire status system, SC earnings potentially from CC's and all the rest, this is one area where QF are actually rewarding long time *Frequent flyers* who actually are.

My 3 cents and I'll now step off my soapbox and go back to scoping out BA !

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

At the moment the most favored benefit of QFF is the soft landing. Especially from WP earned early in the membership year. Theoretically more on that subject in 2017.

Happy wandering

Fred

PS: ATM about 42% to QFF LTS.

Fares to CHC are also quite attractive in terms of SC earn. For example:

SYD-MEL-CHC is going for $467 and yields 120 SC (granted it involves an overnight flight from MEL to CHC). Combined this with a CHC-SYD fare for $461 and the result is a 200 SC run for $928 (before the QF Amex promo) which brings $4.64=1 SC.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

LATAM has some pretty good one way J fare from AKL to SYD (and I suppose the rest of AU too) @ c. 300 incl taxes. In fact, their economy tickets are at exactly the same price :/ hmm......

Bearing in mind LA will earn less SC than the QF codeshare

eg 40 v 80

You earn half the status credits and less points if you book on the LA code though.

True, but QF's website charges a whopping NZ$830 (A$800) for the same flight on 1st Jan. Lan's as good a deal as you can get, especially for the holiday season.

Yes. It thus boils down to what one is prepared to pay for the QF code when travelling on the same metal - is the main objective cost or status credit earn.

Just wanted to say thank you for this - I managed to nab two SYD-BNE-CHC-BNE-SYD J fares in Aug 2017 for $882ea, 240SCs so works out to $3.68/SC! No overnight flights either, and bought with a gift card for max points

Thanks for the heads up. Just pulled the trigger on a BNE-SYD-WLG-SYD-BNE for $1133. It requires an overnight in WLG but making use of the current $150 back for $700 spend on my Amex as well as DSC offer gives me 480SC (240SC x 2) for $983 at $2.05/SC. Pretty happy with that.
