re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

AA F credits to J, except on the three class transcontinental routes. At least that's my understanding.
Yes, AA changed the fare buckets so now discounted F class (YUPPs) actually books into I class (Business) - used to be P Class (First). So they are ticketed as J and credit to QF and most OW airlines as J. Even a fully flex "First" seat in a two class flight books into D now.

Today, I booked LAX-DFW-MIA-SJU for Mar 2018 (US$365/180 SCs). All sectors "I" Class and sold as a "Business" ticket but service F/F/J. 60SCs less than before but still reasonable.

I hadn't noticed before, but a fare condition/feature was same day flight change (subject to availability). So I guess that is like "fly ahead" or fly later if circumstances require? Last year - bringing forward a connection via DFW to SFO was no problem. So this has probably been around for a while and sounds much better than the risk of a YUPP being rebooked into whY on a missed connection etc? Although, I guess that is still a problem / risk if later flights are already full and you missed a connection because of a delayed incoming flight.....

In this situation I think you can claim an ORC (Original Routing Credit) and get the SCs as booked - perhaps someone who's more knowledgable on this can chime in? :)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

This weekend I flew SFO PHX DFW HOU DFW SFO.
Booked first but as Daver6 said all credits were to J so only a total of 160 SC's. Also I didn't notice it when I booked the flight but the SFO PHX DFW legs had the same flight number so credits as a direct flight. 60 SC's
So I am still 60 SC's short. Now scrambling to find a route that will get me these at a reasonable cost.
Thanks for all your help.

Original routing credit applies if you are routed differently to original itinerary. This could be due to flight delays or cancellations, aircraft substitutions, weather or any other reason.

Hmm this applies to me on a recent trip from SYD-MEL-ASP which was booked as part of a LHR-SYD itinerary where DXB-SYD was delayed and my flight was changed to SYD-ASP. Additionally I'd booked it during the DSC promotion so dropped from 50SCs to only 15. Would I just call them and ask to apply an original routing credit?
Cheers, hadn't realised this was possible.

Yes, just call. Should be pretty straight forward on their side.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi there,
Last year there were some very nice SC runs in Europe (for example see this). It seems some of those do not price any more (including the example in the previous sentence, unfortunately). I wonder if there are decent SC runs in Europe these days? I am keen on a comparable SC run in October from Germany, specifically from HAM or TXL. Thanks in advance.

Similarly, is it just me or have AA runs in and around LOTFAP dried up over the last couple of weeks? I picked up LAX-DFW-MIA-SJU (F/F/J but will all credit as J SCs) for US$365 in Mar 18. Hoping for some flights to/from SJO and/or PTY but the cheap fares evaporated around Jan/Feb before Mar 18 bookings opened. What's the likelihood of them coming back and usually how far out?

The PTY fares still exist. They have gone up maybe $50 but they are definitely still there. PM me if you would like assistance with it.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I thought I posted this on Friday, so not sure if its still available, but...

Just booked PER - AKL (via MEL there and SYD return) for $1176. With the 50% SC bonus that gets me 480 SC at 2.45 $/SC.

Plenty of options at the moment in July.

I had an issue last week where my flight from Melbourne to Hobart was cancelled and the best they could do was a Jetstar flight which didn't get me to Hobart in time to get the originally booked flight back. Qantas ended up putting me in the airport hotel at Hobart for the night. The phone centre lady said that I would be sent a cheque for the difference in cost between the booked flight and what I was given, but as it was a status run and DSC I'd definitely rather an Original Routing Credit. Considering they paid for a hotel, what are my chances?

I'm not an expert, but I don't see why them paying for the hotel should make any difference to original routing credits. Just call up and explain it. They usually are pretty understanding.

Is it possible to claim 'trip in vain' with QF, or is it only an AA thing?

If you are willing to position to KTA you can add 120SC for a bit under $1500.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

So I called them and asked for an original routing credit without drama but it hasn't actually credited. Since it was due to credit about 5 days ago I think it might be time to call again..

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Quick one, any $ cost effective ways to get 40SCs out of SYD without going to Tasmania again...?

Current QLD sale on, can get 40scs return to some place north for about less than $400 depending on when you want to go.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Unless you really want to go to Tasmania to do something e.g. visit some friends, I think a small premium to go to QLD would be worth it, especially if you have lounge access. Some Queensland lounges that aren't even for the capital city Brisbane make the Hobart one look pathetic.
