If it's of any use to others, here's the SC earn rates for the ex BKK sales. THB fares pulled direct from MH and exchange rate used is 1 AUD = 26.09 THB fwiw

Yes I see that now, so my apologies to all that read my reply

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Just booked PER - AKL (via MEL there and SYD return) for $1176. With the 50% SC bonus that gets me 480 SC at 2.45 $/SC.

Plenty of options at the moment in July.

Was this $1176 return? At the moment i'm seeing it at $2300 for the return fare?

Correct. Paid $1176 return. Amazing value.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Good afternoon

A touch of a newbie here. I'm planning a trip from Melbourne to Calgary, and am keen to optimise SC. The best option I can see is to Melb-Syd-Dallas-Calgary, which gets me around 150 all up (according the calculators).

My question is - if I book this as a Qantas flight through the website (and obtain the QF flight number), do I still earn the QQ SC on the Dallas-Calgary leg, despite it possibly being a WestJet flight (and in that case, no SC is awarded)?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Any flight with a QF flight number is considered to be a "QF flight" and will earn points and SC as if it were operated by QF.

Daver6 with some wine we can both be brilliant....sing,dance,hypothesize....
I know our run to NYC from Perth is not the cheapest but with stops in SYD,LAX and JFK you can make Platinum in one trip and a few nights in NYC can be a real buzz using a QF double status offer.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Ran the ex HKT fares through the same spreadsheet - seems like ex BKK is better unless you need exactly 160SC. BKK would be better for lounges too! Attached screenshot below anyway.

Airlines: Malaysia Airlines (MH)
Fare basis: ZBT1MLK
Fare: All prices are starting prices incl. taxes

Kuala Lumpur: ca 380 USD
Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta: ca 460 USD
Hong Kong: ca 615 USD
Yangon, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai: ca 690 USD
Tokyo: ca 950 USD
Melbourne: ca 1.235 USD
Sydney: ca 1.260 USD
Auckland: ca 1.580 USD

Min/Max stay: -- / 1 month (for Asian destinations) or 6 months (for destinations in Australia/New Zealand)
Buy latest: 2017-AUG-29
Valid for departute: between 2017-SEP-01 and 2017-NOV-30

Obviously SYD & MEL earns are now woeful, [-]but CMB-xKUL-AKL RT is interesting as it should earn 440SC and could be useful in conjunction with an ex-AKL QF sale to get home..[/-] edit: so are NZ earns on MH!!

Otherwise for intra-Asia routes HKG is probably the best earner in the list, I'll run the options through my spreadsheet later today and report back.

I wonder if you have found a glitch in the QFF calculations re: KUL-AKL on MH.

The reason I say that is, QR DOH-KUL in business is worth 100SC but QR DOH-AKL is only 80 according to the QFF status calculator web page.

Fairer and simpler leads to strange wandering

isn't KUL - AKL segment only earn as Flexible Economy for 70 SC on QF Calculator total CMB-xKUL-AKL RT will only earn 300SC instead of 440SC ?

Indeed you are correct, thanks for the pickup. I checked the partner earning table but not the earn categories.

All J/F cabins between NZ and Malaysia will earn Flex Y SCs - so simple.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Thinking abt doing this run in early December ex BKK while i am on a trip to BKK .
BKK - KUL - MNL return in J for $536 with 240 SC
It seem like MH website won't let you book your return leg the next days , 2 DEC and 3 DEC for example .
You need to book 2 DEC 4 DEC to get the good fare , maybe that is something to do with the fare rules as i will need to stay overnight in MNL in a transit hotel or something .

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

maybe that is something to do with the fare rules

This is correct, just looked them up on EF (Fare basis ZBT1MTH)..

MINIMUM STAY TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO EARLIER THAN 2 DAYS AFTER DEPARTURE FROM FARE ORIGIN.
MAXIMUM STAY TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO LATER THAN 1 MONTH AFTER DEPARTURE FROM FARE ORIGIN.

Had a quick look at some other routes (BKK-HKG, BKK-CMB) and they all have this same rule. :(

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

If my memory's correct I had a spare seat next to me on a flight between BNE and CNS last year so if they want to fill the Business cabin with upgrades I reckon you're in with a chance of getting one on that leg.
So far I have a J upgrade confirmed for for SYD-BNE, so that covers the pre-departure lounge access. :D

I'm hoping get at least one more on the CNS-BNE-SYD sectors, which seems like a possibility given the current loadings.

That explain it ,late flight out from BKK with long layover in KUL will work but you still have to overnight in MNL until the next early flight out at 6h40 AM
