While anything is possible, the dash through the airport and stamp in my passport for a 5 minute stay was pretty cool

While not sure if it's possible on the NOU flight,
When doing my KHI turnarounds previously on CX (was the cheapest DONEx location a few years ago) told the CSM on board and they had a CX staffer meet me with BP

It was a case of 'same same but different' for me, where a staffer met me at the door and then held me back as almost the entire economy cabin walked past me, then suggested they could walk with me through immigration/customs or I could do so myself. Perhaps the reality of where I was compared to where you were.

I legged it to immigration, but found a special line for myself as there were no more business passengers by then, didn't have to collect bags, laughed with immigration and customs and then strode across to check-in where they were presumably thinking, 'why has he taken this long' not knowing I was stopped at the door for what seemed like an eternity. Needn't have worried though, as I had fast-track security and immigration again before a FaceTime and relax in the lounge (which has a lovely view).

I think it depends on the port.

I am planning on doing a same day status run SYD-NOU-SYD with QF...there is approx 1 hour transit...does NOU have an "airside" transfer like in AKL or do you need to clear immigration/customs like you do in CHC when I've done same day status run with Emirates...thanks for the info.

I'm doing a status run next Friday. SYD-HKG-SYD - yes I'm doing QF117 and going straight back on QF118. The DSC offer put me in reach of Platinum, I am on 1075 was already going to get to 1155 due to other flights but return in Premium Economy to Hong Kong (250 SCs all up - 65 (PY Saver) + 60 (PY sale) and double that) will get me there. I do not do a lot of long haul travelling, I tend to do several domestic trips and Trans-Tasman (I often go in J) so get Gold easily but have never been able to get to Platinum but now it seems I will.

Just booked PER to NOU via MEL and SYD return for ~$1500 and 360SC. Booked using a recent magic ticket, so fingers crossed it becomes 720SC. Actually booked this as a holiday so perfect opportunity.

This boy has been paying attention in class ;):D.

I am looking at a CBR-SYD-AKL return run next month and ideally want to do it as a same day turnaround. I know there is a transit area so that I may not have to clear immigration and customs. I need to only do one way in J (cheaper on the outward leg) but this means I need to have 2 bookings - CBR-SYD-AKL in J, AKL-SYD-CBR in Y. Will I be able to have BPs for both sets of flights printed in CBR or do I need to get the return ones in AKL? If so, can this be done in the transit area? The other option (not preferred though would be SYD-AKL-SYD in J and a separate booking from CBR-SYD return.
Not having done an international SC run before I am just not 100% sure of the procedures and how easy it is.
Any advice gratefully received.

I did this last year and on the one booking it’s easy but can’t you simply check in both flights on your phone or at home before you leave? Then get the BP on the phone? It’s annoying not being able to do mix classes on the one booking. As it turned out my flight out of NZ was delayed several hours so arrived back into Melbourne around 1 am. The process in NZ is easy, just move from plane to QP until next flight called. Up or down a flight of stairs - can’t remember which. No questions asked at immigration although it alarms poochie for some reason.

I think a travel agent may be able to book mixed classes on the one booking. It is annoying that you can't do it online.

The bit I am not sure on is if I can do OLCI for the return flight. When in Japan the other week, the message on QF.com was that we had to check in at the airport and couldn't do OLCI.
If not able to, would I have time to get a BP at the transit desk? Thinking of QF143 SYD-ALK arriving @ 15.20 and then QF146 which leaves AKL @ 16.30. This is only 70 mins so might not be able to?

All good questions

Often Two one way tics are cheaper than a return but it's up to you how you choose to go about it....

Hey All!

Just looking to do a last minute run to get back to SG.

Need 70SC, minimal budget/time, aiming between 15-30APR (30APR Anniversary)

The best i have found is MEL-SYD-HKG-SYD-MEL with a 5hr turnaround in HKG for around the $650 mark.

Since i am time and $ poor, i think this is as good as it gets, as there are no MH/CX sale fares currently available that would also get the required SC.

Thoughts?

TIA!

Will

Can see MEL-SYD-OOL return in Flex Y for about the $600 mark.on 21st April. This would get you 80SC.

Note a 40 minute turnaround in OOL is O.K. as you'll almost certainly be on the same plane. You'll have to disembark and spend a little time in the terminal before the flight back to SYD is called. You should allow longer in SYD each way to reduce chances of a missed connection.

Going to OOL you could go there and back on the one day. Much better than flying all the way to HKG just for a status run to turn around pretty much immediately if you don't have to imo.

Well if you were a WP (and you're not) which gives access to FLounges that would change the value equation. I'd value a FLounge visit in MEL and HKG as worth more than $50. However I'd put a value on my time too.

Clearly have not educated the kidlets well enough. He sometimes flies Virgin and Jetstar for work and is kind of close to reaching gold and he’s wondering why I sigh sometimes. Located in Adelaide and needs 110 credits before end of April. Thoughts? :o
