Working on Hyatt requal while you're there?
Yep - posting from RC at HR LAX ...

Back to the PTY run, for QFFers, DEN and ORD can provide more interesting routings.

I don’t know how you keep doing it Serfty!

Doing a LAX-BOS run with overnight in MIA and 2 nights in PTY. Going with wife and daughter so had to streamline it a little but still 400 SC for around $1000 USD.

LAX-SFO-ORD-MIA-PTY-MIA-ORD-BOS

Hi Guys,
If i earn 75sc by the 31st March i will get to silver. Im wondering if there is a reasonable good value way to do this ? I am located in Sydney. I am also likely to become virgin gold in May.
Thankyou for any suggestions.
Kris

Pretty minimal Silver benefits for 75SCs. Sydney is generally not the cheapest starting point.

Welcome to AFF @Kristian :)

Presume you are after 35 Qantas SC?

Maybe a cheap fare to NZ and back?

Thankyou MOA and Serfty.
I should clarify, i need 75sc to get to qantas silver. I am likely to hit gold later in the year even if my 225 sc expire as i have some trips planned but it seems worthwhile to get to silver now and then add the new sc on top of that. I only mentioned gold velocity incase i can status match as another option ? I will look at a quick syd to auk ? Return flight to net 75sc. Thankyou

Discount Y SYD-AKL is only 20SCs.

Use the calculator on the Qantas site.

If you have other trips planned I'd do the full calcs to see how far you are from Gold and target that

I agree with other comments - I wouldn't fork out money to chase QFF Silver. The only tangible benefits are a single use QC invite, some bag tags and the ability to check in at business counters when flying international.

You could find two of these benefits on eBay for <$100, is the business counter check-in really worth the $500+ extra (and time) you'll spend on a status run? I wouldn't think so.

EDIT: Not to discourage you - we all started in the same position. If you've met the four QF/JQ flight requirement, consider doing a SE asia status run and go for Gold instead? Should be doable for <$1.5k if MH are running a decent sale, and this represents much better value than the $500-750 you'd be looking at to hit Silver.

EDIT2: If you're doing enough flying to hit Gold later in the year and it will be on QF/JQ, a Qantas Club membership might be a good option for lounge access in the interim.

Thankyou SBor that is very helpful ill take a look at se asia flights for gold i dont suppose their are any credit cards with bonus status at the moment ? Otherwise ill just allow the reset and then await travel later in the year. Thanks again guys brilliant forum !

Sorry, I misread. 75 is a fair percentage of the qualification level and 3 weeks is tough; a SE asia trip via BNE/MEL will get at least 80 - but tough to get sub $1k fares at such short notice .

Where is the travel to/from that'll get you to 700 SC's after March? If international, then PS this month could be worth it.

If international, then PS this month could be worth it.

Only if the bulk of it is economy on other OW airlines.

If it's economy on QF/JQ I'd recommend QC before a status run to Silver.

If it's business don't bother - you'll get all the perks included in your ticket!

QF international at least enables PS limited seat selection at no cost.

Though if you are flying for Business and *if* the Business will pay the seat selection fee that’s not much of a benefit.

It all depends on individual circumstances.

SYD-BNE-CNS in Flex Y will get you 50 SCs one way for around $330. Not sure how it compares for value, but it's convenient, and return can be done in a day easily.

I actually did a variation on it last year post QF changes, still the best earn outside of AU.

I also missed a flight due to delay but got route credit from QF anyways.

It's awesome when things work out for the best. I was once rerouted from ORD-LGA to ORD-MCO-BDL-JFK. Credited for ORD-MCO-JFK but decided not to push too hard for the BDL-JFK given we didn't disembark (was a fuelling stop) and didn't want to risk getting ORC. In F pre-devaluation :)
