Hi all :)

First time poster, not too keen on reading through 250~ pages worth of content for research purposes so I thought I might ask.

Similar request to someone not too long ago, looking for the best value runs ex Sydney. Want to hit gold before Nov, sitting on 200SC atm. Don't mind the $ spend but time is more of an issue - Sundays are a no-no and can't make too much free time out, flexible with whenever I fly out but only for four or five days at a time.

Thanks for any help given to me :)

hi - thanks all for tip on Noumea - ill look into that.
ive just completed a points run myself - per syd auk/auk mel per with an overnight in the airport hotel - I'm pushed for time so it had to be over the two days - fri night back in perth sunday arvo. head lady came to say hello and asked what I was doing. I said a points run and she remarked loving my work. got some nice treatment.
however I'm not overly fussed about the Dreamliner - the inside of business class looked as tho it was thrown together - or in other words a holden interior build with a mercedes outside finish.
must say tho that the beef was good as was the lamb
con? the 1.5 hour delay on Friday night from perth. 11:55 turned into 01:35 takeoff

Hi all, I am trying to upskill my knowledge on SCs and puzzled by this calculation on the QF site of 40 SCs for a DPS - MEL then MEL to SYD.

Should it not be 125 (DPS-MEL) + 40 (MEL-SYD) totalling 165?

You're correct - MEL-DPS (and v.v.) is a new route for Qantas which hasn't been loaded into the calculator yet, so the screenshot is showing the points and SC earn for the SYD-MEL leg only.

MEL-DPS will earn 120 SC for Business Sale or Saver fares, and 125 SC for Flex Business.

Yes that is right. If you have the same fare coming back as going up then you get the same SCs.

Hi AFFers,
I've been QF Gold for the last 3 years based out of London. But over the last few months have relocated (not sure for how long) back to Sydney and the European business and travel adventures that have propped up my status have dried up.

I am resigned to losing my status unless I can find 480SCs in the next 3 weeks so my question is some what strange - What's on the other side of the end of the month for me? Do I drop all the way back to Bronze? My wife shudders the thought of loungeless travel... and I shudder the thought of my shuddering wife. o_O

(Of course I'd be highly receptive and grateful of any advice for retaining my status but am doubtful I can achieve it in the time.)

There's a miniscule chance that QF at their discretion will gift you gold for another year otherwise you will drop to Silver and receive a single lounge pass.

I suggest you defer any status runs until July. Earn 700 status credits from July and you get to keep your Gold status until June 2020.

480SCs is likely to cost well into the thousands, plus plenty of time.

If just domestic, cheaper to buy Qantas Club

I'm new here, Hi everyone!

I need 100 points by 31st July to retain Platinum.

So I was thinking of just taking a weekday off and doing a domestic status run from Sydney.

I would prefer not to be getting up at the crack of dawn but will if I have to.

I'm ready to book now.

Thanks for looking and I really appreciate your help.

Richard

100 is pretty do-able over a weekend. A quick trip somewhere north, such as SYD-BNE-CNS/TSV would be ideal. In Flexible Y both ways it should net 100 exactly (20+30x2). That's proibably the cheapest way to do it. short of a sale J fare to Noumea or other close international destination, like CHC.

Edit: you need 100 QFF status credits, not 100 points.
100 QFF points is easy to get, but does not help attain or retain status, status credits is what you need/mean.
I know you mention to retain QFF WP, have you tried the QFi SYD F lounge?
Maybe a Saturday in Jul with EK's 380 over the NZ Southern Alps, good view that one, one of my best memories, and then come back with the first flight with QF on the Sunday morning.
If ABF ask, just say, as mentioned on here, you are doing a status run!
I have done the EK F and EK J flights from SYD several times.
Good way to try EK service too, plus take a look at the SYD EK lounge!
Not cheap, but it would give you 200 QFF SC, 100 towards your retaining, and 100 towards lifetime status membership.
If F is too expensive, you could try J one way or F one way, and then whY back.

So, anyone know what happened to MEL-xSYD-CHC fares in J? They seem to have almost doubled in the last few weeks (Saver fares, not Sale). I was planning on a run, but now the monetary aspect doesn't make sense.

Seems to be the MEL-SYD leg being quite expensive in J all of a sudden, but not 100% sure.

I was wondering the same, also before it was giving me the option to do SYD-CHC-CHC-SYD-MEL in one day, now the system it's saying it only allows 2 segments per day (when the CHC-MEL was previously giving the option back EK/QF).

Guys, similar situation here, I need 200 SC by 31 July to get Gold.
Lucky SYD CHC J discounts are out there ATM, and 13XX for 160 SC, not bad.

Hi there, after many years of regular travel, I've had a lot less the last 18 months. As a result, I've lost my QF Platinum status, but thankfully I'm Lifetime Gold. I've just had my first few experiences at the Qantas Club Lounge (Domestic), and the Business Lounge (International), and it just doesn't compare.
I'm really keen to explore what I can do to reclaim my Platinum status. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome. I've heard of double SC Promos from time to time, so that might help ? I'm not so concerned at the cost, but really want to know if this achievable.
I currently have 110 SC and my review is on the 31st March 2019.
Thanks in advance.

Unless you're flying in the meantime, I'd suggest waiting for a DSC promotion and keeping an eye on this thread for a good opportunity.
If cost isn't an issue - just book yourself a few trips across the ditch back and forth on Emirates F on a QF code!

To add to @exceladdict 's advice, the DSC promo is usually around Feb-Mar. Unless you already have lots of travel booked between now and next March, I'd suggest making do with LTG until your anniversary. Reaching WP in your next membership year will see you through til 31 Mar 2021.

If you did want to go for the 1290 SC this year, the cheapest option is to reposition to DPS, using points if possible, and do 6 x DPS-LGK return trips which will get you 1200 SC for $1698. It will take at least two weeks but there are worse places in the world to be than Langkawi and Bali.
