Looking at going to Japan next year, option is to coming back business by JAL (QA4018) then on to Perth QF78. Qantas website on booking is showing this will earn 100 SC. However it looks like this is only taking into account the PER-SIN leg, with the HND-SIN leg being a QF flight shouldn't you earn further SC on top? I asked another and heard the HND-SIN leg as a QF ticket should earn a further 100SC (ie. 200 for whole trip). Anyone done this or can clarify before I book?

HND-SIN earns the same number of SC (100) on both a QF and JL flight number.

Take a look at QF fare basis IR9H1 - you can route PER-SIN-HKG-TYO which earns 260SC each way. SIN-HKG-TYO can be on CX metal.

Cheers - so as suspected this is basically wrong?

Urgh I had decided to jump off the status merry-go-round until I realised I have enough points for 2x J 280k RTW thingos. Consequently am thinking I should probably keep gold to improve availability.

Have got some time to burn in KUL 30 Oct to 4 Sept. An easy KUL-xHKG-PEK return is 280 SC for $874 for $3.10/sc. I'll keep playing around but am open for any other suggestions - it's easy enough to grab an Air Asia cheapie somewhere for positioning.

It would help to know how many SC you actually need to hit Gold. It's also worth keeping in mind that Gold would only help with award availability on QF metal - I don't believe it makes any difference on other OW partners. (best to confirm that in the 280k thread)

That's a good point actually - the harder flights to get availability for will be my first couple (NRT-SYD then SYD-SCL) so I could probably lock those in while still gold.

My anniversary isn't til end May so I'll have to crunch some numbers about how short I'll be.

Just an option - you could nest a KUL-DPS and DPS-xKUL-LGK RT in MH J for $864, earning 320SC. Alternatively if you don't need the full 320SC, you could reposition to DPS on D7 and just do the Langkawi run. Total cost inc repositioning is $564 for 200SC.

Don't forget to investigate the visa situation if considering PEK/SHA.

Great suggestion, thanks! I'll keep playing around. Good point about China visa too - I didn't realise you needed to be transiting to another country on the same ticket to be eligible.

Sorry if this is the wrong place - but just wanted to confirm... Sri Lankan CMB-MEL only earns 60 SCs in J? (that's from the 'between Australia and Sri Lanka' table, which I assume applies in reverse as well, ie 'from' Sri lanka?)

Sure - travel between in this context certainly means each way.

Looking for options on best cost effective way to get QF 140sc ? I am Brisbane based however will be in Hong Kong for a week ( 10th Oct ) and was wondering if its better value to try and get a better value status run from HK?
My yearly QF membership expires end of Oct . I am LTG but wanting to get platinum.
Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated .

Was looking for a day trip or if i have to, overnight is no problem. Naturally attempting the cheapest options possible .
Thanks

HKG-xKUL-DPS/CGK is slightly cheaper than HKG-KUL on its own. Both earn >140SC return for $1000-$1100.

HKG generally not a cheap origin.

Along the same lines ..... need 110 SC to retain platinum but the trip has to be this week in and out of Brisbane. Overnight is ok and a budget of about $1000. It’s a long shot but any ideas?

Slim pickings given the time frame. Best I can see is BNE-CNS in J, earns 120SC for $1285 (book through OTA) but no overnight needed.

It’s a pity you have to do it out of Brisbane.
Gold Coast to Adelaide via Melbourne in J is $890 one way for 100 SC’s
