I wonder if the consultant remembered to decrease the points requirements? It can be hard moving that slider when required. ;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Has MEL-SYD-ASP recently gone up?
I'm trying to find availability as a Classic and it's coming up as 72,000 + $165 ?
Or has it always been like that but lower as a MASA ?

I thought that I'd noticed that discrepancy the other day too but didn't go back to follow it up.

Should be 48,000 and $377 (return) based on the reference guide post 23.

You are both right! Classic is as per Nizar and mASA as Jessica has pointed out (and I booked one again the other day). Yes, another case of a mASA being a whole lot better than a Classic Award....unless you like dollars in your pocket rather than points.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

any idea what it would cost to book a JASA to DXB and back? Trying to figure out the best option for maintaining WP with least number of flights.. Review date is 28th Feb 2014 and I have earned 0 status credits so far this year.

I want to minimise cash spend and have plenty of points to burn. What are some of the best options out there with least amount of dollars out of pocket?

I would say use your points to book a JASA DXB-SYD or SYD-LAX return to get your 4 QF/JQ segments and get the remaining SCs with an AA status run (I just booked one yielding 720 SCs for $1077)

I have had a MEL-PER-MEL flight this year with QF on a classic award booking. Does that count towards the 4 eligible flights?

Really looking to minimise cash spend here but $1077 for 720 SC is very enticing.

I have a QR flight MEL-DOH-KHI in december but will only know on 30th October as to how many SC that earns. Hopefully the earn rate on QF for QR flights isn't too bad.

What would be the co-pay for a JASA or a FASA MEL-DXB and back?

The problem with JASA and FASA remains availability. There are a few U and P seats available in the coming weeks on QF1/2. No idea what the cash component of these JASA/FASA is, but I'm sure some other members here can advise.

No - classic award bookings aren't 'eligible' and as such, earn no [SUP]~[/SUP]'s.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hi Guys

Looking to book a trip Brisbane - London in June / July 2014. I'm having troubles getting a return flight in July (15th -20th) from London to anywhere is Australia. My question is - am I trying to book to far in advance and that's why there are not too many options? I am currently a Gold FF but will be Platinum (thanks to all the info received via this forum) by years end. Should I wait to see if the availability increases once I reach this point? Any experiences / suggestions would be appreciated.

This is not so much a "status" run but more a trip than needs to be made around this time but I figure I may as well try and collect some points for my trip . Points are not too much of a concern as I have plenty in reserve.

Many thanks in advance

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hi Serfty

Thanks for your reply. I was looking at J, I have been looking for classic seats with the plan to call and ask for the old ASA so that I could earn status credits. Will need 2 seats if possible but if not 1 is better than nothing.
I've looked into the options of paying for a flight to either SIN,HKG or DXB as there is plenty of availability return to London from each of these ports but i'm not sure how status credits work on the other airlines if I don't get a QF flight for the leg to London?

Thanks again

I have a similar dilemma. looking for a JASA to America in June next year. The doesn't seem to be any outbound flights on QF metal on the classic award only on the return leg.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

June is gererally a tough ask unless looking to book in July/August the previous year (345+ days in advance)

Gizzard do you know if there's any increase in the points required for a JASA MEL-ADL-ASP ret compared to using SYD ?
Seems to be more availability using ADL over the next few months.
It should be the same ?

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Serfty

Just wish to double check.

"Classic" is not eligible for points/SC but are they counted as one of the 4 "eligible" QF flights for the status renewal or not ?

Clause 9.3.1 seems to suggest they are not counted as eligible flights

"... 9.3.1 Subject to clauses 9.3.2 and 9.4, Points for air travel may be earned only for paid travel or Any Seat Awards (excluding for the avoidance of doubt any Classic Award) on regular scheduled flights where a Qantas flight number (or the flight number of any oneworld Alliance Airline or Airline Partner not excluded under clause 9.4) is entered on the Itinerary ('Eligible Flight')..."

Thanks

No - classic award bookings aren't 'eligible' and as such, earn no [SUP]~[/SUP]'s.

excluding for the avoidance of doubt any Classic Award is what it is.

To get a ~ you must earn QFF points and/or SC's on the relavent segment and it must be marketed by QF or "Jetstar".

Classic awards fail the ~ test at the first hurdle.

Classicawards do not earn points/SC's so cannot earn a ~.

Sefty, what do you recommend for me in my situation? It's going back a few posts now but will need to rack up the 1200 SC by End of Feb next year. Best options out of MEL with lowest cash component? yes I have had a look at the spreadsheet but would still like to know what you think :)

There are more serious runners out there than me.

I'd be looking to get to the USA and do a LAS-SJU return for about $1000 and earn easily 700 SC's. If you are points rich, look at a JASA from AKL to the USA and back to earn 520 SC's and at last count NZD830 and 168K QFF.

Only trouble is that U award for the transpacific by February would be very thin on the ground.

DRW-xSYD-NRT may be an option.
