Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

You can't book online. You need to find classic award space then call up to book it as an ASA in U class (for business class)...
Thanks for the clarification. I think it's pretty obvious now that i'm a newbie.
Status Run - Nov 13.jpg
I found this when searching the classic awards. I was thinking the connection time is ASP is a bit close, but judging by the flight numbers, am I right in thinking that it's going to be the same plane SYD>ASP as ASP>SYD?

Thanks for all of your help everyone

Needing 480 SCs (but a few more may be helpful), based out of MEL - is the most cost effective option 2 x MEL-xSYD-ASP return runs?

Given that would cost >$4k you must really want status or have a lot of points to burn.

Sorry, omitted a very important piece of info from my OP: I'm talking about using JASAs here.

Makes sense now. :) Of course if you got the DSC fairy to pay you a visit it would make it even better. Fingers crossed it does.

AFAIK but there are ways of doing it in one trip if you prefer but probably at a higher cost per SC. This is certainly a good option.

I certainly hope so as I'll be doing the same route but, yes, it's the same plane and almost certainly the same crew that may well ask what you did for your 40 minutes in ASP and why on earth you went there for that time. Having said that, the guy on the WP desk the other day said to me when I made a similar booking "you won't be the first"!

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

When I did this trip last year (DSC JASA) the crew were very used to people doing the whole trip. They also love the actual shift, SYD-ASP return was a days work and it was a day shift to boot.

With that many SCs, would you mind if I ask for your rational on this? Going back down to gold means you'll only lose int first and dom bus lounges, a few bonus points, and priority in a few things.

Pretty logical but bit the same as driving a sports car instead of a VW...it just feels good

It could be that they are at the start of a new status year and want to get to WP ASAP to get nearly 2 years worth of benefit.

Personally, I did something similar a couple of years ago and have enjoyed WP since while flying short-haul domestic with JQ price matching against Tiger. It makes those flights a lot nicer when you have lounges either end especially if it's the International First Class. Also, if JQ go wrong you can be moved on to a QF flight.

You forgot one other biggie (for me, anyway): the ability to request extra award seats to be released. That, and access to the SYD/MEL F lounges, is worth the "price" of the SC run to retain WP in my book. YMMV though, of course :)

(also: anyone have any feedback on my original question )

Not sure what the cost would be as a JASA (classic is 36000 pts I think), but I just booked MEL-SYD-DRW in J at $649 one-way ($1298 for 240 SCs so $5.40/SC...) Sale ends tonight though, but tons of availability in November.

Thanks - I'll compare the JASA cost of that to MEL-xSYD-ASP.

Sorry gizzard, poor wording on my behalf: thanks for your input, what I meant to ask was if there was any other further suggestions on an effective SC run / agreement that the ASP run was as good as I can get.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

G -Unit, a favorite of mine was ADL-xCBR-SYD in J 100sc 24000points and $100 (IIRC)
Return should get you over the line and was usually readily available

Good luck

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Has MEL-SYD-ASP recently gone up?
I'm trying to find availability as a Classic and it's coming up as 72,000 + $165 ?

Or has it always been like that but lower as a MASA ?

Should be 48,000 and $377 (return) based on the reference guide post 23.
