Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hey guys,

Currently QFF Silver + Qantas club. Would like to hit gold on my next review and currently have a double status credit offer for travel before end of November.

I will need 185 points to hit gold, so only need to accrue 90... So close.

Any tips on the most effective or cheapest route?

Thanks.

Where are you based? and do you have points to use, or only cash?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

How do you work these fares out?
I am a lonely Bronze member, but with a lifetime club membership. I would love to get to 7000sc to obtain lifetime silver, let alone get to gold?

Work out some flights you think you'd like to do and see what routings and award availability are available on the qantas website. Use the following two pages to work out the status credits earned:

https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/initialPointsEarned

This page is useful to work out SC earned on Qantas flights only. It won't calculate SCs on codeshares not operated by Qantas.

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Status Credits

You can do more complex calculations on flights with partner airlines on routes not serviced by Qantas metal on this page. Use Great Circle Mapper ( Great Circle Mapper) to get your mileages on the various legs.

Look for routings that throw up extra segments rather than direct flights e.g SYD-MEL-PER in J is worth 120 SC one way as opposed to 80SC for a direct flight. But there is one or two flights per day from SYD-PER that route via ADL and are worth 140SC.

All three routes cost the same in points (36k) with the co-payment for a classic flight coming in at approximately $40 (SYD-PER) $70 (SYD-MEL-PER) and $80 (SYD-ADL-PER) respectively. Obviously for a JASA the co-payment is higher but you get the idea.

Don't be afraid to ask questions on these threads. There are plenty of regulars on these threads with much more experience than I in ferreting out the best bang for the buck status runs.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

No, you need 95, which when doubled gives you 190, thus meeting your target. Would hate to see you fall 5SC short :o

Same Q's as ReLoad - original departure city, what dates are you available to travel, are overnight stays okay, how many points do you have available and what is your budget for $

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Any thoughts on a decent status run ex DXB? Travelling to the ME a bit soon and will hurtle from NB to within 200SC's of WP (could be as little as 40 depending how many flights I route via MEL from SYD).

Will have a few points to burn, a little money and a couple of weekends.

Seems like minimal options other than LHR or back to Oz? Any thoughts for cheap travel if I didn't use points?

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Tokyo on CX is very good value in J. Perhaps overkill for your needs, though. Haven't looked at DXB-SIN lately, but seem to recall that was decently priced too.

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Look at MEL/SYD or BNE to TSV, another is to DRW, all give good points value.

How about a walk about pass? http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/air...?int_cam=eu:hcp:qantas-walkabout-pass:lang:en

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

I finally taking a short holiday break in Melbourne soon, but can someone tell me why it is still cheaper to fly overseas and why hotels in this country are way overpriced. Miles from city center just to get a half decent price. Even hostels are overpriced..

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Hey there,

Long time lurker, and i need some advise.

I am 380sc from going platinum and my roll over date is the end of October, this month.

I have about 150k in points and am close to platinum and i am worried i wont get this close next year. Was thinking about a Points and pay going business, but am unsure what is the best way to go, or what would be the best value.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Donnie.

It's a tough gig to book and travel that many worth of SC's with 23 days all up to do it.

How much free time do you have?
