Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

... Can't remember the exact routing but I once found a 5 segment trip SJU-LAS for 390SC! Really good runs are there to be found, it's just a matter of how hard you want to look for them.
Best I managed was LAS-LAX-(redeye)-ORD-LGA/JFK-MIA-SJU for 420 SC's.

I was looking for LAS-LAX-(redeye)-ORD-MIA-SJU and the NYC connection came up at the same proice.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Doing LAS to ORD to MIA to SJU next month. Seemed to be the best I could find on day. Returning SJU to MIA to MCO. Will have 3 days in SJU. Any suggestions for SJU?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks very much for all the replies.
Seems like I'm on the right track, but not getting the pricing/routing right. I was using aa.com as a US citizen, but maybe that's not the smartest.
I'll review the AA thread and try some more options.
Regards,
Peter

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just completed a status run in J today, booked as a phone-in mASA (thanks to asg29e). Got a DSC offer so booked CBR-SYD-OOL-SYD-CBR for 32K points and $297.82 (+$7 CC fee). SC of 160 (x 2) so cost per SC = $0.95 (+ points). :D

Got me to gold too. Now wondering whether to get another 310SC (x2 DSC) for WP.

In a word.................yes if you can

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm looking at my options for a status run (having a DSC offer active at the moment), but I'm a bit confused. Looking at the spreadsheet of successful JASA-at-classic-award-rates bookings, I see a couple of people have booked MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL for 48,000 points, netting 240 SCs, which sounds like a good deal! But when I try to search for the corresponding classic awards, I can only get them priced at 72,000 points. Am I right that there must be U class availability for all of the legs to get it at 48,000 points? I tried searching with KVS for a few random dates, but I couldn't find any QF791 flights (the ASP-SYD leg) that have U class at all. What's the trick here? (And does it matter that there are direct flights MEL-ASP-MEL every day? I thought I remember that being a factor too.)

Thanks for the help!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

MASA's are calculated as origin to destination (MEL-ASP in this case), classic will take the total distance traveled into account (MEL-SYD-ASP).

Aha, so the points should be right if I call up. I wonder about the U class availability, though – KVS doesn't show U0, but doesn't list U at all for the QF791 flight.

(Just trying to get this all straight before I need to call up!)

Can you do an award search without logging on? MASA's don't seems to use the additional award availability that can be available to QFF elites.

Generally if KVS (or E/F) show no U or U0 then a flight is will have no availability at the mASA rate.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Investigating further, if I search on KVS for, say, ASP-MEL on December 5, it tells me of QF791/459 via SYD (among others) with no U class listed at all. But when I search for the two flights individually, I find QF791 has U1 and QF459 has U9. What does this mean?

If I do a non-award search on the Qantas site without being logged in, the greyed out Classic Award column does have a little seat icon in the row for those flights I was looking at.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all, I only need 35 sc's before the end of the year to requal for Gold, would prefer not to burn any points as I like to use these for longer ASA's (assuming these will still be able to be booked through the terrible phone service, only had one experience and the lady was talking to me like i was not right in the head and telling me a points plus pay was the way to go or a classic award if I wanted less points!! any way I digress) I'm based on the GC but can easily travel from Brisbane as well but mostly limited to weekends which doesnt leave me a lot of time before my end date, was thinking about doing OOL-MEL-SYD-OOL but its a bit of a mess around unless anyone has any better ideas? I was almost going to book BNE-OOL via Sydney but gave up trying to book this as an ASA as the lady wanted to charge me 36,000 points instead of 24,000 as she must have been looking BNE-SYD then SYD-OOL I wish they would bring back ASA online booking!! Anyway if anyone has any ideas on a cheap way to get 35sc's that would be appreciated. :)

I looked at Saturday 14 December you can do OOL-SYD-MEL on QF for $186 and 20 SC and MEL-OOL on JQ with the bundle for $129 and 15 SC. Might not be the cheapest, but it's 35 SCs leaving at 10AM and back at 7:40PM

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks Defurax I have been having a look at Deathstar and looks like I might be able to do OOL-SYD morning flight do a bit of pre Christmas shopping then head off to Melbourne that night, spend the night in Melbourne and take the Dreamliner home in business class (pay for up front seat seems to allow booking business class seat for $12) for about $350 plus accommodation in Melbourne. which ins't too bad :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I found HNL-lax-SFO-dfw-IAD-mia-SAL-mia-IAD-dfw-SFO-lax-HNL for ~$1870 on AA in F earning 1140 SC ($1.64/SC). I thought that was pretty neat :) Along with crediting flights to LOTFAP and back, you would more then requal for QF WP or even earn it for the first time (1400 SC).

That is pretty good.

The small challenge will be positioning in HNL (at a reasonable cost).

JQ solves that problem every few months ;P, especially if there's two travelling to the island.

Or, you know, you go to Hawaii for a holiday! (I know, I know: blasphemy and not a true status run and all that... :p)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I need to go to GEG for my cousins wedding in June. QF WP until Nov 14 for me and Jul 14 for my partner.
Any suggestions on routings to retain WP? was thinking SYD-hnl-GEG-NYC-sju-HNL-SYD or thereabouts

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I found las-lax-mco-mia-sju-dfw-lax-las for $959.40 US (560 SC) so around $1.7/SC
I think you're missing SJU-MIA-DFW (There is no SJU-DFW flight anymore; AA now hub everything out of MIA, they shut down SJU as a Caribbean hub unfortunately).
