Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

It's 40 SCs one way with the max bundle, but the plus bundle is only 25 SCs one way. It's better than the usual value you would get on a Y flight, although not special enough to really make an effort for unless you really need it, and you need it now with no better alternatives available.

Plus bundle says this
3,900 Qantas Pointsand 40 Status Credits^ or Emirates Skywards Miles° or a AUD $15 Jetstar Flight Rewards Voucher*.Find out moreMax Bundle says this
5,200 Qantas Pointsand 60 Status Credits^ or Emirates Skywards Miles° or a AUD $15 Jetstar Flight Rewards Voucher*.Find out more

Who wants to play "Investigate The Muppets"? If you want to find the answer then don't read on for the spoiler.

Oddly enough, if you search on Jetstar's website for SYD-NAN, it will give the correct points and status credits, which is 1650 points and 25 SC (one-way) for Plus and 2200 points and 40 SC (one-way) for Max.

Searching for the new OOL-NAN flights, however, gives the incorrect figures as quoted by Jeremy Kronk.

What is the system looking up instead? By using association-correlation investigative techniques, it turns out that the figures quoted are for Economy and Flexible Economy (Plus and Max Jetstar bundle fares respectively) for Qantas/Jetstar flights between East Coast Australia and North East/South East Asia (one-way). In other words, the tech-muppets believe that in this particular sector case, Fiji is part of the main region of Asia proximate to Australia.

What I don't get is how can the system get it wrong when NAN surely would have been not coded as Asia in the back system (otherwise, SYD-NAN would also show the wrong numbers).

FYI NAN is not part of any of the Qantas/Jetstar Simpler and Fairer geographical regions. The calculations are therefore based on the miscellaneous distance zones, under the heading "Qantas and Jetstar Codeshare Flights", and in this case it is "Mid-range international flights including those between Australia and South Pacific/Papua New Guinea, and intra-USA".

Not your fault. It's an embarrassment that the website is giving the wrong figures, although more embarrassing as to how that is actually possible.

Rather good that you brought it up, really! But I'd always stand to check these things myself anyway.

All said and done, for those who want a quick getaway to Fiji, that's not bad scratch, although methinks Fiji Airways might be within striking margin so might be a better alternative, if only that there was no great credits available.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm doing LAX-ATL-MIA-ORD-LAX-SFO, US$1057, 410SC US$2.58 per SC. Single day turnaround.

Anyone got any better ones out of LAX (domestic only with same day turnaround) or NYC (preferably JFK but can handle LGA), please let me know!

How about "both" cities?

LGA to LGB. LGA-PHL/CLT-DFW-PHX-LGB and return for 520SC at US$1.1k (IIRC) same plane and crew turn around at LGB but a few hours overnight at DFW.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I actually found a better one. JFK-BOS-DFW-LAS-LAX-DFW-LGA @ US$977 for 470SC @ US$2.08 per SC

Wonder what they will credit you once flights are taken.... Well we pretty much know they will credit the correct SC and Points for the route.
Would pay to take a screen shot of every page where they are incorrectly stating what SC and Points you would be given / paying for then argue it after.

I have also noticed Fiji Airways do not credit points on their Special fares now - did not notice the exclusion last year.

I did a J special with Fiji to LAX ex Syd in October and picked up J SCs @ 50% to NAN, and 100% to LAX.. $3600~ return

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

For all those wondering, we completed our run without any dramas. Only 1 cancelled flight. It came at a good time for us. So no big issues with that. WP attain for us both by the weekend. +1 already has 1220 sc I am on 1155 with 3 flights let to credit. So its good for attain or retain.

Going to LAX in two weeks, any good trips out of there?

LAX is fairly hard to get some decent runs out of. Try other LA airports, like LGB, SNA, ONT.

Fraid I can't agree with you CaviAck. I find LAX to be one of the best origination points for AA status runs. I can see lots of $2.x /SC from LAX year round. Have a play with Google flights to get a good view on things and then refine with Matrix.

BTW, I'm finding some variability with AA multi-city v one-way offerings. Sometimes up to 20% better $/SC. It's such a nuisance entering multi city though and it takes so much longer.

Slightly OT, but speaking of LAX. I was looking at some flights yesterday for May.
Couldn't be bothered driving from Los Angeles to San Diego, so I looked up some AA flights.
It gave me an option of LAX-MIA-DFW-SAN for approx $1400 with some good SC's. Just for a 40 minute AA Eagle flight.

What the bleep?? What kind of search engine are AA using?

Is this recently, I haven't looked at LAX much since the fairer and simpler change and the AA merger? I was never able to find decent runs starting out of hub airports before, specifically looked at LAX since that's where I spend most of my time when I'm in the states. Usually found $3+ runs out of LAX, it's not bad but to me wasn't anything run worthy considering the other options.

LAX isn't too bad for originating Caribbean runs, especially if you have no interest in LAS or would need to deliberately position there.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Does anyone have any advice on OW status runs within South America and whether they are worth doing?

Planning a trip to the continent and will have sale Y fares to/from Santiago, but once on the continent will have more flexibility for J. Major destinations likely to include Santiago, Lima, Rio, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires.
