Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Does anyone have any advice on OW status runs within South America and whether they are worth doing?....

AWSH, unfortunately the OW rep for Sth America is LAN. (TAM is pretty much theirs too). Although LAN is an excellent airline in many respects, their website / booking systems absolutely suck. With them there is nothing like the opportunities for SC that exist with American in the USA and surrounds. As a rough estimate you can get about 4-5 times the SC per dollar in the US vs Sth America.

I think? :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Planning a trip to the continent and will have sale Y fares to/from Santiago, but once on the continent will have more flexibility for J. Major destinations likely to include Santiago, Lima, Rio, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires.

The other thing to watch with LAN flights within S America is whether J is actually available or whether it's PE. I've had some instances where I was supposed to be in J but it became PE, although without a noticeable difference in the hard product - but your SCs will feel it. I wouldn't hope on any significant status-running in S America.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Does anyone have any suggestions for status runs starting from Perth? I'm looking at ones that will earn 180 credits. Not really fixated on any particular destination as of yet (ie. could be east coast or overseas). Thanks.

For $1,400, here is what i did for 200 SC last October with QF: PER-SYD-BNE-HKG, 3 days stop, HKG-BNE-SYD, 5 days stop,SYD-PER. The booking was in L class all the way which earn as Flex Economy on Domestic (I believe they change fare classes recently) and economy on International, I had to book over the phone in order to get the specific class and stops, when they asked why the specific class I just told them it was to get more Status credit.

I don't think there are any good J fare to do a status run from PER, but if you manage to get to BKK, around $650 with JQ or MH, you can then catch incredibly good J fare with MH to all around Asia. Example: BKK-KUL-PVG RT J 240 SC for less then $600. You also have TPE, HKG, CAN, PEK... Some flights are operated on 772 or 333 so you get long haul product for 3-6 hours flights.

Are you trying to reach Gold or keep silver?

Hi Gregoire,

Thanks for the suggestions. From what my account details say, I don't need to gain any extra status credits to retain silver, so the intention is to try to reach gold.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

We flew AA LAX DFW MIA AUA on Tuesday US and had my status credits in my QFF account late Thursday night. Excellent teamwork. Ordinary even in F but good earn rate. Waiting in the lounge to do AUA MIA IAD to LAX. There is no AA lounge or AUA only paid VIP room. Pretty slack!

It's AUA, what do you expect?!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Get to SYD or MEL or BNE flying Y and do an EK one way F to NZ, come back J, then Y back to PER.
Can be done on Christmas long weekend this year or Easter 16.
Have to ring up as well, ad you will have 2 different classes of travel TransTasman.
Not cheap tho.
120+80 and (20x2)=240

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yep, that Nzd$900 fare AKL to BNE would have been a nice one to have gotten on.
A test for F.
I did EK on a B777 (my second ever 777) in J CHC to SYD last year, wow, I could only ***dream*** that one day, QF would put a regular A330 NZ to Aust's east coast.
They won't, but I can dream, **or** go ADL to PER, then PER to AKL, certain time of the year. Then JQ Plusbundle back to MEL/SYD, then ADL.

Well, you know that QF did have many 747 services to NZ in the past? So your dreams are not "impossible" dreams! :)

May have something to do with the price of fuel ;-)

It seems that EK can still afford it! :)

(I think it also had do with competition and choices - there was much less years ago - and both QF and NZ could fill their 747s) (or 747SPs in the case of QF at WLG) (QF also had an all 747 fleet from 1979 to 1985)

I know this is continuing to take it off topic but there is also greater frequencies on QF than there used the be when 747s served the route... Having a choice in flight times is for some more important than the single choice with nicer seats for the 3-4hr journey.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Was fiddling round with fares ex ADL TO KL. CAUSE QF fly you to Melb/Syd then SQ THEN JQ to KL. for the full Flexi fare around $1550-$1650. SCs are 200. In looking at Where could Start a trip from Australia because one doesn't have to reposition themselves to "get anywheres". (A "hidden" cost not factored into the calculations) it would appear there are very few good opportunities to snare SCs now thanks to the new "system"but this caught my eye. That's around $8 a credit. Sadly, it
Would seem we are destined to be overcharged here in this country. As another play around I note J & F ex Europe appear to be about 33% cheaper booking from that end. (ie 4 tickets for the price of 3)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I know how you feel CaptJCool. I'll be 180SC short of Gold on my anniversary (31 Mar) and getting there will cost 2K. I just don't see the value in chasing it.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

CaptJCool, flying Australian east coast to SIN with SQ will NOT earn you any QF SC!
Maybe you meant from SYD/MEL/BNE to SIN with QF?
To get me retaining PS in my next cycle, I don't think I can keep up SG, I certainly will not be flying SQ in trying to gain QF SC, VA SC maybe, but certainly not QF SC!

I think what he meant to type was SIN, not SQ. As in QF from ADL-SYD/MEL-SIN then 3K to KUL.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Gosh yes nothing gets past the learned friends here I meant Flying to SIN not flying with SQ

ADL-KUL-BKK r/t on MH in Y then BKK-KUL-PEK J r/t on MH for around 280SC. Probably under $1500. It would cheaper if you're willing to position yourself in SIN or BKK on an LCC then BKK to North Asia in MH J.
