Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks, have looked into Asia in particular and spotted SYD-MEL-SIN-KUL return for $1540 on Flex Y = 200 SC, which is very promising. Totally agree that SYD is not the best starting point domestically.

Slightly dumb question, do you just build that as a multi-city on the QF webpage and how do you add the return leg of the trip? Thanks.

It's not a dumb q, mini2 - in fact I lucked out on this by just using the normal booking function for SYD-KUL return using 1/4 May as dates. When I tried replicating it using multi-city, it would not let me!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

This works off the main booking page for ADL - KUL because it auto grabs flight ADL-MEL (or SYD) - SIN-KUL. Suspect Syd is a bit different cause why fly to Mel to fly to SIN WHEN you can fly direct ?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

And how do you get from New York to Manchester and then back to LAX?

JFK-BOS-MAD-LHR-MAN, LHR-LAX. in discount Y unfortunately. Some might question why so much faffing about for so few SCs in Y (extra 25SC and about 1500FF extra compared with JFK-LHR-MAN, about $10 extra), but PISH I say to such naysayers. I will get to try out the IB A330-300 and the BA 380 trans-Atlantic.

Booked through AA website to ensure no BA sectors: JFK-(AA)BOS-(IB)MAD-(IB)LHR-(IB codeshare)-MAN, LHR-(AY)LAX. IB gives 1 ff point per mile even in discountY, and AY gives 0.5. Unfortunately the BA380 wasn't offered as a AA codeshare on the booking page and I didn't think til after to call AA. Could have got a few more SCS with a couple of connections in US (LHR-(one of several US cities)-LAX), but I am connecting with the LAX-SYD that evening and didn't want to risk the vagaries of US airports seeing as the LHR-LAX and LAX-SYD are on different bookings.

OK, so not exactly an SC run at US$984, for total 90SC, but maximising SCs for trips I need to do within time constraints. I'm sure there are better.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi all,

Looking for suggestions to get 220 SC by Jun 15. I have recently received the 50% extra SC offer and so really need to earn 150ish SC.

I am based in Townsville.

Thanks,
Ben

Best I can find in quick search is TSV-BNE-MEL-HBA in Flex fare for $531 one way earns 70 SCs each way. (Didn't explore JQ options). TSV is tricky as TSV-BNE is in the first zone (cf. CNS-BNE which is in the second zone). Other options I looked at were TSV-BNE-ADL, TSV-BNE-PER, TSV-BNE-PER-KTA, TSV-BNE-SYD-DRW.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks heaps kevro. So it looks like I am up for at least $1000 to get the 150SC at around $7 per SC. Ouch........

Perhaps I won't keep Gold this year.

I was Platinum last year, Gold this year more than likely silver next year and who knows what the year after.
In the past I used a combination of JASA's and PAID flights to maintain status including 2 x return Business class tickets to New York ( Paid by ME not anyone else).
Now I just buy economy and try for an Upgrade with points been lucky so far but guess it is just Airline Roulette.
I worked out status is an expensive crock that I can have almost the same benefits ( excluding bonus points ) of by just upgrading to Business where I can and I am finding a more productive use of points.
Thanks Alan you opened my eyes and I am thousands of dollars better off.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Is mileage monkey sc calculation correct, post simple and fairer?
No - not at the moment ...you need to work it out yourself ...

QF 750, 1500 ...

Other carriers? Depends where ...

... not really simple ... is it ...

What about a few cheap JQ sale fares ex TSV with a plus bundle?

Alternatively drive to CNS & fly from there. Any cheapies ex CNS to NRT or KIX? Award ticket one way & paid on the return or vv?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I was mostly interested in AA flights. So apart from flights under 750 miles, mileage monkey should be accurate right?

AA flights are pretty easy to work out as in my experience most call under the simple distance based table.

QF status run?

I need 70 status credits by 30th June to retain Silver. Have looked at return to Sydney but that only gives me 50. Be very appreciative of any suggestions/ideas. (Prefers to buy tix instead of using points). Thanking you in advance!
