Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

ADL - KUL, if flying anything apart from J, the SC earn rates are not "extravagant", if I was chasing SC, what I would do is fly something with a QF flight number, ie, ADL - MEL, in the morning, take the EK metal with a QF flight number to SIN, and then do what you want from there.
Yes, there is the option of flying ADL - KUL direct with MH, but do take a look at the OW partner SC earn rates (if not flying J ADL - KUL). If flying ADL - KUL in J, then its worth it bypassing the Au east coast.
Must say though, I would love to try the 380 once. Never flown that one before, have done the BAE146 (AN days), 717, 737, 767, 340 (LA AKL - SYD), and Dash8.

Even if flying in business the partner airline SC earn rate that would apply on MH-coded flights is half what you'd earn on a QF-coded flight.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Any thoughts on OOL-MEL return via Sydney:
J $1218 return = 160SC $7.6 per SC
Flex Y $518 return = 80SC $6.5 per SC

Not a fabulous earn rate. But it's a price value equation. Do you need ~80 points to gain/retain a certain status level? $6.5/SC just to boost your balance is not worth it IMHO.

If DSC came up this would be a nice little route to take, even more so if there was a reason for travelling between the two (three?) cities :p

Someone remind me should a DSC offer pop up that this is the route I should take ;)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

With anniversary coming up end April, I'll be needing 180 SCs. Any suggestion of domestic flights ex SYD to grab this number, for good value?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

You don't have a budget in mind?

No but the lower $/SC the better. I need 180 SC so I don't wish to go on expedition earning much more than that. Could consider trip across to NZ from SYD. Or, diversion from CNS where I'll be in few weeks.

Do you have your tickets to and from CNS yet? If not have a look at flexi fares SYD-MEL-BNE-CNS, for some reason they come up not much more than a flexi SYD-BNE-CNS every now and then.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

First post here, hello all. Based in SYD, with 170 SC to WP needed by 31Jul15. Keen to get this as we plan to do a lot of int'l travel come 2016. Any smart ideas in the $1-2k range? thanks in advance.

Off the top of my head, a trip in F to AKL should net you 120 for around $1250-$1300 one way. J on the return would get you 80 for another $750-$800 odd, or Flexi Y around 40sc for a little less (in which case you could probably connect via MEL or BNE to get the extra SCs).

Otherwise if time/location/ease of accrual aren't an issue, there are still some decent runs in Asia and the US. Domestically speaking, Sydney is less than ideal for status runs.

SYD-BNE-CNS or SYD-MEL-CNS in J for ~$1820 return gives you 200 SCs.

Thanks, have looked into Asia in particular and spotted SYD-MEL-SIN-KUL return for $1540 on Flex Y = 200 SC, which is very promising. Totally agree that SYD is not the best starting point domestically.

Thanks for the tip. Couldn't quite get the price down below $2k on it (dates maybe) but my wife has not been to Cairns so I've put it on my list!

I was using May 6/7 as sample dates. D class Business Class. If it's a bit more expensive, they may be C or J class which will earn you Flexible Business rates.

Please note that for the SIN-KUL leg, MH would earn only 10 SCs, so you would need to take 3K with the correct booking class code to get the SCs you need.

Thanks for the tip Andy, good thing there are plentiful options purely on QF and QF-branded 3K.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Los Angeles to New York:

I need to go LA to NY in May. Arriving into LAX on QF11 arriving 0630.

I booked 12pm LAX-LAS, LAS-ORD-BOS-LGA. in P: 290 SC , US$640, (and will need hotel in LAS o/n, say US$100). Not the cheapest @ US$2.20/SC (plus cheap Las Vegas hotel, certainly cheaper than NY hotels!), but not too terrible for an A-B (via X,Y) that I need to take.

(Comparison: Economy by most direct route (LA-NY, 20SC) and getting to NY a day earlier would have been overall approx US$360 (flight plus hotel). This route is approx $740 (flight + hotel). Therefore incremental cost for extra 270SC is approx AU$500. And I get to see Las Vegas for an evening.
