I am doing a status run into CHC in early October.
I arriving into CHC from SYD on QF139 at 00:30 then depart CHC for SYD at 06:00 on QF138
I will be HLO so for the 5hrs or so can i just stay in the terminal?
Is there a transfer option so i don't have to go landslide?

Cheers, motef
I did it a couple of months ago. You do have to leave and re-enter, but the terminal is quite cosy. Lots of powerpoints if you want to stay up, but they configure the furniture so that it is hard to find a spot to lie down and nap. Nevertheless, when I did snag a lay-down couch, I didn't get any grief for it

Hi all - would love some guidance here. Am going to be in the states at the start of Jan (31st - 9th) and have a few days spare and would be keen to do a SC run. My travelling party isn’t keen to go to Colombia, so we’ve currently found some 2 stop J Itineraries to CUN from west coast for $700-850 AUD.

Before we book, are there any other runs we should be looking at?

CAN or CUN? 😳

SJU used to be a shortish hoping off point but nothing leaping out.

What's the latest thinking on points club status runs? Looking at the redemption cost and status earn tables it seems that maximising the number of 750+ / 1500+ sectors is the goal while staying under the 2400 / 3600 redemption cost increase thresholds.

PER-MEL-BNE-CNS sneaks in one 1500+ and two 750+ sectors at 3401 miles total (assuming a $100 copayment, and valuing points at 1 cent each, I estimate at $8.37/sc).

ADL-MEL-BNE-CNS lands under 2400 (thus 41.5k) with <750, 750, 750+ (same assumptions, $8.04/sc).

These are still expensive compared to most cash methods but have the benefit of using points.

I wasn't able to find a combo of three sectors between 750 and 800 to get 3*24SC sectors under 41,500 points. Nor could I use multicity to ticket more than 4 segments in one go - and overnight stays mean the segments price separately. Am I missing anything here?

Try making it PER-MEL-SYD-BNE-CNS or even add in CBR to the mix. Points remain the same although taxes do go up.

Did you or someone else once post a matrix of SCs v pts or the like? I have a vague recollection seeing something showing some of the sweet spots.

Although, looking at your question - there are a lot of potential permutations that would be hard to tabulate!

The earn/burn ratio in whY is not to be sniffed at but obviously not as pleasant if done as a pure SR.

I recently did SYD-SIN return in whY (ended up SYD-SIN//SIN-PER-SYD). For the same points, I was also offered an option to do SYD-MEL-PER-SIN (but o/n in MEL). The return was o/n in PER but there was an option to then do the same day PER-MEL-SYD. I didn’t look, but I suspect BNE-SIN might be bookable the long way there and back also?

The good thing was no “red eye” flights and I ended up in J SIN-PER.

You might be thinking of this? That table is based on the published 16/24/32 SC earn rates for domestic. International is a whole other kettle of fish as it's destination specific rather than distance based.

Yep, that’s the one! I almost tagged you in my earlier post!

Trying to book (re-use) a DSC booking for September.

So far, have been able to get the below routes to maximise the SC earn ;

1. CBR-SYD-SIN-CMB-MAA-BLR-SYD-CBR in Flex Y, 32800 points + 245 SC (before DSC), costing $2977 (before the Business Level 1 discount on Flex fare of roughly $120 and the already paid $160ish as part of the DSC purchase)

2. CBR-SYD-MEL-SIN-CMB-MAA-BLR-SYD-MEL-CBR in Flex Y, 20,000 points + 285 SC (before DSC), costing $3323 (same story as above point)

3. CBR-SYD-MEL-SYD-SIN-CMB-MAA-BLR-SYD-MEL-SYD-CBR in Flex Y. Now, this route is technically not available to book in the QF website as some of the dates are not available for sale. Trying to talk to someone in HBA/AKL to see if they can ticket this route. From my back of the envelope calculation, this should fetch at least 300 SC (before DSC)

I have got a call scheduled with HBA today at 2030 hours. Will keep this thread posted once I have an update.

For late Jan/early Feb 2023, planning to do a domestic+NZ status run ... for now, planning CBR-MEL-SYD-OOL-MEL-AKL-MEL-OOL-SYD-MEL-CBR in J, bringing in at least 520 SC (before DSC).

I'd be up for this, but can it be ticketed? The website was throwing errors when I tried to use multicity for more than 3 flights in a day, and when adding overnight, seemed to price per sector rather than as one continuous ticket under 3500 miles. Please let me know if/where I'm making the rookie error!

Requoting @sudoer's table for reference:

I believe you can start or end with a PER red-eye to cross dates, then max 3 east-coast sectors. So in the case of PER-MEL-SYD-BNE-CNS, schedule PER-MER to be the day prior to all the other flights.

PER-MEL-SYD-BNE-CNS can be ticketed starting with a 8am PER departure. I don't do trans-con red-eyes. They just ruin me. I did this last week with double SCs posting a few days later. Every single flight was delayed yet made all connections and checked bags even made it to CNS!

Update : I received a call a very helpful, lovely, bubbly Jessica (same person I spoke to the night before) from HBA call centre around 2045. The call began with the usual "this call is recorder for quality & training purposes, etc" and then we got right into it.

When I book a trip on QF website I consistently get 5 SC more than what Jessica could see on her booking systems. After talking to her supervisor and few other seniors in the team, they still couldn't figure out where that extra 5 credits is coming from. Anyways, I decided that I'd proceed this booking with the reduced status credits because I need to lock in the trip & the dates.

I had come up with a variety of routes to book for the upcoming CBR-MAA DSC booking and Jessica was patient to try and price all the routes I had in mind. We finally settled on CBR-SYD-SIN-CMB-MAA-BLR-SYD-MEL-CBR for $2957, 34,400 points & 265 status credits (before the DSC), working out to approx $6.5/SC, which is not great, but this is a trip I need to do anyways, so happy with it. All in all after the DSC I'd make 450 SC ...

The call was completed around 2210 (yes, it was a very long call trying to price all the crazy routes I had come up with) and the e-ticket was issued around 0050, but it had a few issues ;

1. The CMB-MAA leg was not ticketed and not showing in the e-ticket, so that's a bummer
2. A change fee of $99 was charged, which it shouldn't have because the original DSC booking was a Flex.

And, so I kept an alarm on my phone to call QF as early as 8 am so that I can get HBA/AKL. I called at 0830 and was answered immediately by Toni/Tawny from HBA. I explained what had happened and she was able to look at the history of changes made under the PNR and told me that Jessica had put in the CMB-MAA leg, but UL had cancelled that particular flight (UL125) just before the ticketing was completed and so QF booking engine dropped that leg. It should have been caught before the e-ticket was issued, but somehow it slipped. Toni apologised and said that she will fix this and she did so right away.

I then brought up the issue with the $99 change fee applied incorrectly and she acknowledged that it was a mistake and promised to fix it as well. She said that a new e-ticket with the CMB-MAA leg and the refund of the change fee will be issued shortly. I received a new e-ticket within the hour, which, to my surprise still had the $99 change fee :(

So I called 13 12 11 and there was a wait time of 15 mins, so I was offered a call back, which I promptly accepted. Within 5 mins I got a call from QF, I explained the change fee issue, the agent on the list put me on hold to talk to the finance department, came back and confirmed that a refund is now initiated and will 7-21 days for the money to come back to my credit card.

Wowee! That sounds more palatable. Did you search that with multi-city PER-SYD and SYD-CNS?
