Could putting a rope between the cabins work? It sounds a bit cheap. But maybe if you could get a thick red (Hollywood golden edge style) rope it could work.

Sounds cheap and nasty,maybe they would need someone like this guy holding the rope.

Unless it had a magnet in the middle to allow quick release. ie. You could walk through it and it would come apart (like the curtains).

BA have a rope to segregate F - I think it has a quick release catch in the middle.

I do like the new 737s - especially row 3 when travelling Y.

Anyone else think they should keep the front Lav for Business Class only? My most recent flight really made me wonder why it hadn't been introduced, on BSI aircraft at least. Had kids running up to the front and back about 20 times, people "stretching" in the front galley, and just general sticky beaks. Flown VX First a few months ago and they were pretty strict about not letting any Economy pax past the divider.

Yeah I agree with you there. There is a lot of foot traffic in the J area, with Y Pax going up just to check it out. You hear a lot of whispers and Y pax basically talking about you.

I'm seeing nothing special to write home about here other than fresh and new... otherwise looks just like my dentist's waiting room, much like QUNTAS's interiors do. Seems like a "me too" approach.

As for the Lav issue...

... certainly in the U.S. the rule is... "use the lavatory in your designated cabin only".

Hmm. Not sure about J only for the lavs rule. I suspect I will be in row 3 or 4 for a lot of my flights as a gold/plat flyer. That would make me furthest from the toilets at the back!

Qantas do! But slightly less skewed at 1 for 12 at the front, and 2 for 156 down the back!

That's the thing, I guess it isn't as bad on Qantas, and, to be honest, Qantas passengers are better trained and don't need to use the bathroom as much.

My read on the new next gen 737s from both airlines are below.... I think with a bit of spit and polish plus integrating RED into their plane - Virgin would probably get up to a 8/10 for me. The cheaper leather seats have never been great, I understand they are cheaper to maintain and clean but I'm really not a fan and it really is a LCC heirloom... (Don't like the JQ ones either).

Virgin (7/10)
- Hurry up and fix the AVOD (or lack thereof!). Just whack in RED and hurry up
- Fix the dividers between J and Y


Qantas (9/10)
- Just looking forward to the BSI versions now, the current next gens are pretty much perfect!

So true, Virgin need to get their new AVOD in ASAP - they are giving Qantas a free kick in that game. Fingers crossed we are waiting for a good reason.

I really like the new seats on VA, and found mine to be really comfortable on my Y leg - I went J on the way back just to try it out (You know you are an airline diehard when you make a purpose trip to try out an aircraft for no other reason lol). Like I have said before I really like the new divider on VA, they just need to put a nice curtain up as well to keep traffic through J to a minimum. I was thinking a silky white curtain so the LED's in the sky interior reflect upon it changing its colour along with the cabin. I think that ticks everyones box, more privacy, less traffic, yet still spacious.

When I last flew with QF I was lucky enough to get one of the NG737-800s for one leg, stuck with a -400 for the other . I was in J and it was no where near as good as VA's new J.

I can't wait to try out the new QF Y should be a great couple of hours due to the AVOD<3

I agree with Liam, that the problem with J on small jets is the traffic through the J cabin. It's intrusive and when you've paid 4 times the price of anyone else on the aircraft you do expect to enjoy your flight without a toddler making the seat next to you a playground or other pax stretching in your personal space. Why do they need to walk all the way to the front of the aircraft to stretch? Can't they stretch in the aisle next to their own seat? The last thing I want on my flight is a couple of people standing over my seat waiting for the toilet and putting their cough in my face. Personally I don't see anything wrong with blocking off the front toilet, not all 170 people will need to use the toilet in the flight. If they don't block off the front toilet, it won't matter how nice the seats are up front if they don't also come with peace and privacy.

However, re the seats, most, if not ALL LCC have "Leather" seats intalled. The reason being durability. May cost a small amount extra to install, however, the ongoing costs of cleaning/wear in minimal.. ie: a drunk footy play spews all over 3 seats, then they get wiped down and go off again in 2 minutes. If that happens with fabric, well, its a different story.
They are in most cases not full cowhide leather, they are in fact a synthetic leather. In the vehicles I use, they call it "Unnatural Leather" which is as durable as leather, has been manufactured to have similar properties, however, its half the price. Also note that usually the main contact areas are of this material, most backs/sides are actually a vinyl type blend.
Not being gross, but next time you are on a reaonably new one, sniff the seat(The upper part, because I may have been in it before you got there and that would not be nice), it wont have the strong leather smell, of say a nice italian leather lounge, also check out the structure and firmness of the "Leather"
Not taking a shot at the seats, because I actually quite like them, except those 738s with the coughpy old blue seats, they look really sad. That being said, they are 8 or so years old now, and original covers, so that tells you how long they last, even if they look cough.
