Does anyone have a Platinum Edge card? At my wits end with AMEX!

Yes bonus points included, it appears to be personalized and stipulates I must maintain my Green Charge Card and Ascent MR enrolment to receive the card fee free.

So not really free for life then.

But free with with $80 Card fee and $80-ish (??) MR fee.

yes MR is $80 and it is still an exceptional offer with the free flights and bonus points.

i'll be watching with interest to see if the MR fee gets charged at all considering one of the benefits of the edge is fee-free ascent membership.

It's likely my annual fees will be waived based on my spend anyway next year.

Ahhh, you have a Green Charge Card ..... Is it for your company or personal card?

Anyway, do you pay annual fee for your Green Charge Card (and how much)? That could be the reason why they offer fee free for life Edge card?

Personal card, it's $80 a year plus the MR fee - yes considering how much I've spent (and stopped spending) it's definetely the reason they've offered it.

Yes don't get me wrong. It is still a good deal.

But just not as good as if had been free for life with no other cost.

I think you will be up for the $160 in total...as Amex tends to stick with it's coughtail offers and not forget them.

ie I have a Plat RESERVE without flight for the reduced yearly fee of $192, but where I ring up and they reverse, or in this most recent case credit me $200 back.

So my Plat RESERVE, sans Flight , this year has was better than free (+$8). ;)

Well you could also say they have just handed me the bonus points and travel insurance for nothing plus given me flights that if redeemed properly will bring my outlay back to $0 every year going forward - and that's before I ring them to ask for my Green Card fees to be reversed because of my spend.

So if you have an Amex Plat charge (and therefore have Ascent Premium) would your points go there or to an Ascent MR account??

I have a plat charge card, free plat reserve cc and just applied for and received a plat edge cc to take advantage of the 3x points in supermarkets.

Unlike the plat reserve cc which links to the ascent premium account of the charge card, the edge cc has its own ascent account.

This is different to what I was told by a CSR a few weeks ago who said that in all likelihood as a plat charge card member they would just link the edge up to the ascent premium.

The only key difference I can pick up is QFF, but i'm happy to go with some SQ points after accumulating alot of QFF points. Does anyone see any other reason to push particularly hard for ascent premium on the edge?

Activated my card last night, called Amex to redeem my flight SYD-ADL in early January (ie non-sale period). Spent 5 minutes and all are booked with no taxes to pay. If I had to buy it, it would have cost me like $320. Instead it costs me $149 in annual fee (not to mention earning point in Ascent and 20K point bonus). Great value!

Thanks for the post edison.

I need to travel ADL-BNE-ADL on 21/ & 24/1 to hook-up with a BNE-MEL-NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE double SC run.

When I booked the NAN trip I applied for the Edge card. Got it within a week. The terms and conditions say you must have paid your first minimum payment after your first statement with the annual fee on it before you can book the free flights. That date for me would be 28/12, only 3 weeks before I need to fly. I was also told this by Amex when they rang me the day before I received the card.

I've been watching the flights I need for the last 2 weeks. They had been $139 & $179 since I started watching them. They were $145 & $179 tonight.

Anyway, I read your post about 30 minutes ago, rang Amex and booked the flights I wanted, no problem. I was really worried that the flights wouldn't be availabe by 28/12.

So you can definately book your flights as soon as you activate the card.

Thanks again edison. So $324 value already with free travel insurance for the whole trip (I put the NAN run on the Amex) and 20,000+ points to come. Sweet.

How many days interest free does this card have? I just applied online and realised I couldn't find it anywhere.

if I dont use the free domestic flight this year, can it be accumulated for next year ?

Nope - however, you can book a flight that takes off next year, this year (if that makes sense).

E.g. Your Plat Edge year rolls over in April. You can book your flight now (say), for June next year if you like. You can then book another flight in May next year for June as well if you want too.

Also, you can use two years worth of flights together to fly 2 people on the same flight.

Thanks, that's what I'm planning to do.

Just a mumbling for anyone applied through the professional promotion, I applied through this promotion, thinking that I will get the discounted annual fee + $ 200 voucher (if I spend by end of this month). I applied 30/09/11, approved 2 days later, card sent out on the 4th but was lost, and now it's the 11th I still haven't received the card yet, I have tried to hold on to my bills, filling petrol, check my mail box everyday, it's just annoying. and I will only have 2 weeks to reach the $ 500 spending target (instead of 2 months for the normal promotion). I also actually prefer the 20,000 points more.

I have complaint to them, they said marketing department will contact me tomorrow. Await to see what they will do.

I changed from a Gold Amex to the Platinum Edge Amex via my professional organisation (with the discounted yearly fee).

The 20000 bonus points turned up apparently on time, and the 3-2-1 bonus points has seen points growth rate increase nicely!

The points I still had on the Gold card seemed to disappear; I rang Amex and they put them straight onto the new Platinum Edge card.

The question I have now, is where can I get the specific details of the travel insurance provided for travel purchased with the Platinum Edge card? I have dug around the Amex web site, but I have obviously missed the magic link...any pointers please? What I really want more detail about is rental car coverage; what is and isn't covered, and am I supposed to select insurance options like CDW, LSI, etc.

Thanks!

Go to the Amex page for the card (https://www212.americanexpress.com/...toid=eb64d2a455f0b210VgnVCM100000defaad94RCRD), and in the terms and conditions at the bottom of the page there is a link to the PDS for the insurance.

See above, It is actually under the Term and condition. I dont like the idea of excess fee for travel insurance though.

Yes, I just booked SYD-ADL-SYD for two people for a quick weekend to close off my 2011 flying year. Its a free flight per membership year (my year just ended 20/10/11) and I was able to redeem last years flight as well as this years flight. I reviewed the cash cost of my travel dates and its $303 per person return. Given the annual fee is $149.00, these flights easily covered the card costs and I am a happy chappy

Booked my first complimentary flight today - MEL-BNE-MEL in two 2 weeks time. Was advised that my anniversary was Oct 27, but as a good will gesture, last year's flight was used, but don't expect this to happen again. Flight was $427, excluding the checked baggage! Itinerary stated baggage was included, which I thought was correct, but when I checked the booking ref on the Virgin website, it stated carry on only. Not that it matters - I don't need the checked baggage. All up equivalent cost incl baggage and credit card fee would be $460! Pretty impressive!

Does anyone know whether I'll be able to check in online 24 hours prior? And whether there will be any possibility of selecting row 3 if it's a new/refitted bird?

Don't worry about the Virgin web site saying it has no included baggage. It does. I stressed myself out and called them in the middle of the night. The call center staff had to call her manager (who was probably asleep) and he said it doesn't appear on the Virgin site because of system issues. I flew with my checked baggage with no problems.
