Domestic seat selection now up and running

I was told at the QP that seats are held for SG/WP if vacated by a WP/SG. They can't be grabbed by PS/NB.
Well Qantas staff need to be retrained because you will notice a few posts back that a Silver was able to change to a seat in row 24 on a 767 at T-80....

Late Bookings - it sucks badly.

Tue PM flight SYD-MEL, B Class Booking as WP
Rebooked flight (shifting it by a day) on Monday afternoon. Confirmed by agent at T-27. Logged on at T-24 with OLCI available (and SEQ 17)

Allocated and best seat (on an A330) is

...... drumroll.....

Row 48...
and nothing available further forward.

Not happy

Edit...
On going into select seats I get a totally differnt choice - could selects seats in Row 25, but coming back out says it can't confirm.

Now forward to Row 45.

Got flights next week (CBR-SYD return) on the 12th and nothing forward of row 13.

Every seat from row 13 back was available. SG Y (B class) booking. Must be expecting a lot of WPs on the 9.50am flight.

For my Y flights on QF domestic for April and May, still no joy in getting the first 2 rows.

Moreover, QF have seemed to sub some 767s out in favour of 737s on some of my flights. And clicking on the flight extended info, they seem to be 400 series :( I hope this will change in due course.

734 in why on short hop domestics are good for WP's then the 73H's - in the 'standard' 12 J configuration, there are 6 non exit aisle seats with extra leg room.

(As distinct from the 2 available on 73H's)

True, but if you're on a flight to/from CBR there's a good chance that the 734 will be configured for max J, eliminating any good seats for Y (except exit row). Not that it will apply to any of my flights.

I don't mind window seats, so I have four options on 738. Still, that's four options to compete against any and all WPs and CLs on a flight. But if you get a seat, the leg room in row 4 of a 738 kicks a 734 any day (the seat in front allows better organisation of bags etc.)

Also, if you get op-upped on a 734, you'd be wishing you had a 738 or 763 instead. In saying that, that's never a great thing to bank upon.

For my trip to Perth on Wednesday evening, I was (as an AA Plat) able to allocate 24B on a 767 today, and on the return on the Thursday night, 5C.
Screen shots available.
When I OLCI later today I will try for rows 23 and 4 respectively.

Unless you are now Chairmans Lounge you should not be able to get into the first 2 rows on any domestic flight outside of the T-80 hours window.

Change? Once they substitute a 734 for a 767 it does not go back. :(

I hate it when QF changes the scheduled aircraft as I specifically look for 767 flights and I am prepared to leave earlier or later to make sure I can get one. Perfect example was 26 April 2010 when I booked the last flight of the night 21:05 SYD-BNE as this was the only 767 available. I could have had almost any flight earlier but chose this flight.

Now I would be extremely disappointed if QF change this to a 734 as I could have chosen the 17:35 or 18:35 or 19:05 or 19:35 flights and got into BNE earlier....

Having spent 20min with Plat Desk and 10min at Business Lounge trying to get forward of Row 45 on an A330 I recount the conversation

Business Lounge.
Showing my Plat Card
Asking if I could move further forward

Ag. It won't let me move further forward
Me. That was my problem
Ag. Your FF number isn't in the booking.
Me. But it showed on my Booking and Select Seats
Ag. Your FF number is in the wrong format
Me. But it showed on my Booking and Select Seats
Ag. Leave it with me and come back at boarding.

Ag. New pass. Got you moved forward to 27x
Me. Thanks. What was wrong with the booking.
Ag. Ah. FF number was in the wrong format.

So it seems that the new OLCI checking engine will not accept certain formats of FF numbers,
despite the fact that Select Seats and My Bookings happily accept the format.

Anyhow. First flight in a new A330-200.
Much much much better than a 767.
Seats are nice and comfortable, feels like more leg room to stretch out, and quite like the seat forward to recline.
AVOD is brilliant - great selection (watched a doco on the Lockheed U-2) and thetouhscreen works well.
Only downpoint is the News is still on a loop - I would have thought a quick upload of a file using a memory stick rather than tape would have been easy, but obviously not.

IainF, what are you doing going to Perth for a day:?:. I didn't think you worried about business in PER and ADL - must be a decent client ;). I miss you by 2 weeks :(.

I can understand if you got 5C because it's a lightly loaded red eye...

Does your FF number start with 0 or 00?

Mine starts with a 0 and I had a bit of trouble related to my QFF number when I tried to access the F Lounge as a first-time WP. They eventually tried different things on account of the 0 in my number and eventually it was all honky-dory.

Still not working QP-PS. Qantas IT dept = FAIL!

Just got a new email from QF announcing this new 'feature'.

This year Qantas will introduce a host of exciting domestic travel initiatives to make your journey easier. The first of these is Advance Seat Selection.*

As a valued customer, you can now preselect your seat any time from when you first make your booking and up to 3 hours before your scheduled departure. Advance Seat Selection is available on all Qantas operated domestic flights QF400-1349 (excludes QantasLink). - Be in control of your travel arrangements - Be more prepared for your journey before you arrive at the airport So with Advance Seat Selection now available on most Qantas domestic flights as well as Qantas international flights QF1-199, now you can choose where you want to sit almost anywhere you travel with Qantas.

Choose where you want to sit with Advance Seat Selection

If you are a Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer or equivalent oneworld member, you can now preselect your seat from a range of preferential options, any time from when you make your booking, to 3 hours before your departure on Qantas international flights QF1 - 199, Qantas domestic flights QF400 - 1349 (excluding QantasLink services). On QantasLink services you can request a preference for an aisle or window seat.
Other passengers on your booking can also benefit from your Frequent Flyer status, with a choice of preferential seats.
Seat changes can be made via Manage Your Booking up to 3 hours before your flight, or via Online Check-in from 24 hours to 1 hour before your domestic departure, or 2 hours before your international departure.
With Advanced Seat Selection you can make your arrangements before you get to the airport.

HA!

Got the same email from Qantas as Wark got but it says "If you are an eligible Frequent Flyer or equivalent oneworld member, you can now preselect your seat" (subtle difference - click on the the links in Warks and YQY's post then check out the address: seat-selection-silver-member versus seat-selection-gold-and-above-member).

Checked my upcoming bookings and it seems that I am NOT an eligible FF. It's a little condescending to email you about a new feature that you're not eligible for. Sort of rubbing it in saying 'oh, so you're only QC PS, look what SG and WP get'

Not sure what's that all about.

<childish voice> Nah nah nah nah nah  :p

OK, all jokes aside....so PS/OWR can't access this function? Seems odd.

This function doesn't fall under the oneworld benefit "Preferred Seating*", does it?

*(except for OWRs on BA)

I suspect it comes under the following gotcha for preferred seating...

OW site said:
Pre-reserved preferential seating*
*In accordance with the individual policy of the oneworld member airline operating the flight.

All told, it just means that nothing really changes for QFNB/QPNB, QFPS/QPPS and OWR - seat selection starts from when OLCI opens up.
