Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

I suspect you mean DRW for Darwin? :)

Much easier to do MEL-SYD-OOL in J for 1400odd for 320 SC under DSC day can be done by 5:30pm :)

It's a pity an AKL F sale isn't on now like it was a few wesk back. $1700ish would have netted 480SC for a MEL-AKL-MEL daytrip on QF/EK.

My final question though justinf is - you wrote you see no international trips in 12-18 months so that's at least your next membershop year Jul 17-jun 18.. how many domestic trips would you have? would attaining Gold be that useful in terms of those trips? As in if you did say 3 or 4 dom roundtrips would the extra spend be worth it in terms of lounge access and so on provided by Gold? I'm suggesting there may be a cost/benefit analysis to the project? Not saying don't do it or anything.. totally up to you.. just wondering if the value would be there? That's a very personal choice of course :)
The MEL-SYD-OOL option might be good as Richmond play the Gold Coast Suns in late July and that would be easy to manage. Thanks for your help!

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Last time I tried explaining this to the in-laws my brother-in-law thought the only way I could be doing this was that I am seeing another woman from a different state and that I was travelling to see her. It's just not worth the hassle of explaining anymore.
I'd certainly tell my wife the truth and that I will be doing a status run, but staying overnight just adds to the hassle. She's fine with it, although she thinks it's stupid and silly but is not suspicious and she doesn't need to be, but it's when others fine out that it becomes a hassle.
Not sure if anyone else on here has had the same problems or if it's just me?

I certainly dont have the 'fidelity' issues like that! And any queries from MrP flew out the door when I got him to WP in a year he thought he would never requalify. On the other hand, my brother would think I am crazy so I have never even bothered to explain.

But, emm, I might just surprise MrP with my own new shiny steel grey WP card and leave him wondering.....

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Yep, can confirm the two people i have told thinks im crazy. At first they thought i was joking but when i pulled out a SG card they saw I wasnt.
Im thinking of going doing SYD - MEL- CHC in J this time. Previously i did SYD BNE CNS. Not sure what other great runs are out there from SYD.

OT but....

I'd never considered that sort of interpretation (but then again I'm single right now - which probably explains the P1 status :D ) so it's not front of mind, but yes "oh I'm going to AKL to do an overnight" suddenly can have different interpretations to the honest truth. And since those who don't understand the reasons for such a trip it makes more sense for them to think there's something else going on besides.

Makes sense.

Of course it seems pertinent to relate a somewhat funny experience of mine from many moons ago, but actually it was on a SC-equivelent run so it's on topic. Back in 2003 I think it was near the end of the year and I needed some miles to retain my United 1K status and I thought what can I do to get them? I seized upon the idea to go to HKG for Christmas Day - nothing happens here in oz as things are closed down and my family was otherwise away so I thought yeah I'll check out honlkers at christmas. I needed to be back soon after as I had to work between Christmas and NY that year so I made it a very long trip that wound up with 8 hours in Honkers. Well had a ball over there and returned to MEL lunchtime boxing day. Well Customs did their job and pulled me up on being away for such a short time and coming back through BKK.. I mean most people would presume something odd was going on (and I had one customs manager suggest they KNEW I was a drug smuggler and would prove it but that's another issue). Anyway the AFP got involved since there was no trace of drugs on me (because you know, I wasn't doing anything wrong :) ) and apart from complaining that I dragged them away from watching the Boxing Day test match (which I thought was hilarious) they were really good about it all. Anyway the point of this story is that they actually at one point when trying to understand why I went there for so short a time and to make it "work for them"actaully said to me "Look, it's OK if you just say you went there to.. you know.. see a prostitute" (!!!!) - as though somehow going 5,000 miles for a hooker made more sense than doing a status run (remember this was 14 years ago so things were a bit different). Well my mind kind of boggled at the whole concept, but it seemed from the way they were talking that this maybe was NOT so uncommon. I mean sure i've heard of "sex trips" to Thailand and the like, but going to HK for a day for a hooker? yeah well.. Anyway I said no that wasn't what I was doing. Gave them the truth showed them my FF cards and whatever and explained and they were OK with it and let me go. I had NO issue with what happened. Everyone did their job and were polite and friendly except the one customs person who was convinced I had drugs but hey they did their job and I was happy they picked up on the obvious unusual activity and investigated (luckily no rubber gloves or innocent status runners were harmed during the procedure!)....

so yeah Justin.. I get it :)

now back to discussing DSC's....

hmm I wonder how many to HKG.... :D

Take the wife on a nice long weekend away?

Re: 2 x SC for all! (Book by 6th Mar, Travel Mar 17-Feb 19, '18)

Can't be bothered explaining the details anymore, just my whereabouts (final destination) and I'll be back in a day or two. Bro/ sis generally don't ask question so all good. Mum and dad on the other hand was shocked and think I'm crazy travelling back to KUL just for the weekend. The things we do.

Not the only one by a long shot.

I'm not a huge fan of a status run for its own sake only; we're doing MEL-SYD-CHC return next week for the CHC dinner, and it just happens to be booked under last years DSC promo. The NZ trips with a domestic connection are some of the best value.

Re: 2 x SC for all! (Book by 6th Mar, Travel Mar 17-Feb 19, '18)

Apologes if I have missed this in the thread, but I see in the terms and conditions there are some exclusions with partner services.

Does this exclude the Jet Connect service across the Dootch to NZ?

No, they credit just fine.

Would love to but then it costs twice as much. Would much rather take her on a long weekend where we both just travel in Y and there's no pressure.

What's a Dootch? (LOL)

Re: 2 x SC for all! (Book by 6th Mar, Travel Mar 17-Feb 19, '18)

normal date changes will not disrupt DSC earning.

Thanks for this reassurance! I just made a bunch of Flex bookings for work that will undoubtedly need time/date changes. Glad they will still get me to SG next month!

Good to her. This time in 2 weeks I will be a newly minted WP. First time. Does that make me a :o

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

This doesn't make a USA based status run any more attractive, right? Well, I suppose the positioning flights would be more useful, but the intra-US flights would remain the same, correct?

Correct. Would not apply to any AA flights within the US (not even QF codeshares on AA)

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

There's also the following option:
MEL-BNE-DWR in J 140x2 = 280 $1069
DWR-BNE-MEL in J 140 x 2 = 280 $1069
Long day though. 6am leaving MEL and getting back at 9.25pm with only a 40-minute turnaround in Darwin.

Ah it's fine, did it in 2015 in December. Darwin was so hot & humid I couldn't wait to get back on the plane for the return. The day goes fast when you have entertainment - so don't forget to download the Qantas Entertainment app to your device!

Wooo. Maybe :p:p:lol:

I'll get there in August without a single status run
