Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

I think I've worked out what this means.

I think it means that if you buy a comfort seat, you don't get DSC for the comfort seat, just for one seat per sector.

I actually disagree with this interpretation, though I suspect QF would need to clarify as a comfort seat is a bit of a unique situation.

My reading of this part of the T&C is about applying multiple offers to the one sector However a comfort seat in a sector normally earns SC's for that comfort seat. You are still applying the one SC offer to the segment, which in this case has 2 SC earning "passengers" - I believe the comfort seat would earn DSC also.

Basically, to me, the T&C are saying you will ONLY have one bonus SC offer apply to normal SC earnings on any sector. I do not feel it is meant to exclude earning on comfort seats.

Happy for QF to clarify of course :) (if only previous Red Roo was with us)

Re: 2 x SC for all! (Book by 6th Mar, Travel Mar 17-Feb 19, '18)

Ps - not thinking about doing a date change because of this in the DSC terms
"If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply."

Just to respond to this.

This was clarified last year by QF.

In basic terms you CAN change date and time and flights on your DSC eligible booking and still have them applied UNLESS:

- your new flight dates fall outside of the window (ie: change to >Feb 19 2018 in this case)
- you cancel your booking
- make some other change that results in the original PNR being nuked and a new one created. This is what I think they mean by "change" above

normal date changes will not disrupt DSC earning.

It had been demonstrated with the previous promo that changes made to eligible bookings that did not change the PNR were not a problem (as clarified by Red Roo year). As this condition is exactly the same as last year I see no reason why this would not still be the case.

The intention is to not be draconian about this offer.. and if you buy a flex fare where changes are part and parcel then it would be unreasonable to invalidate the offer just for a date change etc. That's not the intent of this T&C.

Again the magic date is Feb 19, 2018.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

It's a concept that is totally absurd to them and something that only 'we' understand I think.
imo this is one of the things that QF is hoping for with this offer. It provides good value for them and for us.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

There's also the following option:

MEL-BNE-DWR in J 140x2 = 280 $1069
DWR-BNE-MEL in J 140 x 2 = 280 $1069

Long day though. 6am leaving MEL and getting back at 9.25pm with only a 40-minute turnaround in Darwin.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

A single MEL-AKL-MEL return in F will net the same SCs for a little more money, and be much more fun (albeit with an early start).

No earning on classic award flights, but points+pay does earn.
Is that with Emirates? Is there any 'catch' to booking this? You just need to do it through the QF website?
Once again sorry for taking up this thread with my n00b problems.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

I did that MEL-BNE-CNS run last year. Very enjoyable day trip. Made the difference for obtaining WP for the first time.

If you do this make sure you do this run after March 11th. The new Business lounge in Brisbane is scheduled to open March 11th.

A trip to NZ in F (provided the timing is right for the lounge being open) would have the advantage of a visit to the QF FLounge (though that might tempt you to go for WP sometime).
I was in the QF F lounge a few weeks ago. Very addictive.

The only "catch" is you have to book the EK flights under the QF marketing code.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

I'm going to try and maintain gold next year. My expiry is 30 June and I don't have any international travel planned in the next 12 to 18 months.
My family just doesn't understand this status run thing. It's a concept that is totally absurd to them and something that only 'we' understand I think.
Therefore I'm trying to maximise SCs by doing a day trip that doesn't require an overnight.
My home airport is MEL.
Have searched and have come up with the following:
MEL-BNE-CNS in J $1130 120x2 SCs = 240 SC
CNS-BNE-MEL in J $1130 120x2 SCs = 240 SC

With a few more domestic flights, I'm confident I can get the other 120 SC over the course of the year to get to the 500 SC required to maintain.
Is this a reasonable use of cash for SC earn or am I mad?

Also, do you earn SCs on flights that are 'paid for' with points? Sorry, I am a novice at this status run thing.

Is overnighting out of the question? If not some of the trans tasman routes can be good. WLG can be done as a day trip but I think you have to take the nonstop on the way back

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

In case there is any doubt valid QF marketing codes for Trans-Tasman flights are mentioned in the T&Cs of the offer.

I suspect you mean DRW for Darwin? :)

Much easier to do MEL-SYD-OOL in J for 1400odd for 320 SC under DSC day can be done by 5:30pm :)

It's a pity an AKL F sale isn't on now like it was a few wesk back. $1700ish would have netted 480SC for a MEL-AKL-MEL daytrip on QF/EK.

My final question though justinf is - you wrote you see no international trips in 12-18 months so that's at least your next membershop year Jul 17-jun 18.. how many domestic trips would you have? would attaining Gold be that useful in terms of those trips? As in if you did say 3 or 4 dom roundtrips would the extra spend be worth it in terms of lounge access and so on provided by Gold? I'm suggesting there may be a cost/benefit analysis to the project? Not saying don't do it or anything.. totally up to you.. just wondering if the value would be there? That's a very personal choice of course :)

Would prefer a day trip. Less questions, less hassle.

I'm doing that trip this year using my last booking from last year's offer. Wasn't relying on getting an offer this year.

I might have booked that had the sale still been on, but the non-sale prices are just too high.

I'd envisage doing four or five domestic trips during that time, perhaps more, but mainly to CBR or SYD.
Have considered doing a few trips over different days, but I'm an Aries and impatient as all hell.
Also running out of time researching how to do this. Full days and nights planned over the weekend and busy all this arvo. Just want the easiest option.
Getting Gold for another year would be good as I want to go to the UK in 2018 to be at the new White Hart Lane so retaining Gold will be much easier after this year if that makes any sense.

A

I am doing a day trip - starting in Adelaide and returning to Melbourne, for around $1900 for 200 (x2) status credits and all in J. It is a long day but lots of time in the AKL lounge, not that it is fabulous or anything.

There is no point trying to explain all this to those who don't 'get' any of this.

Last time I tried explaining this to the in-laws my brother-in-law thought the only way I could be doing this was that I am seeing another woman from a different state and that I was travelling to see her. It's just not worth the hassle of explaining anymore.
I'd certainly tell my wife the truth and that I will be doing a status run, but staying overnight just adds to the hassle. She's fine with it, although she thinks it's stupid and silly but is not suspicious and she doesn't need to be, but it's when others fine out that it becomes a hassle.
Not sure if anyone else on here has had the same problems or if it's just me?

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

My family only found out I was doing my run last year when I was part of the way through it (though at first they thought I'd gone to SYD for the day). Was not at all sure how they would take it.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Mrs Opusman thinks I am bonkers. Mind you, she's happy to go into the F lounge when the opportunity presents itself ;)

This is exactly the selling point for the "muggles" in the family.

so yeah going for Gold? crazy but hey we can have drinks and bites in the QC when we go on hols to the GC next year and maybe have a better shot at an upgrade on the UK flight etc. Then suddenly they see the value :)

Why not stay 2 days and turn it into a way of attending this years annual AFF do in DRW :)

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Yep, wife certainly didn't complain when we had access to the QF J Lounge in SYD before flying to SFO before Christmas. Nor did she have a problem with the J Lounge and a nice hot shower at LAX while waiting for our flight back to MEL.
