Double Status Credits 2013

After my Per--BNE--CNS--MEL--PER DSC which doubled as a rental property inspection, which requalified my silver and sent me to gold for the first time, I'm doing the same run to qualify for platinum. Reason is

1) first class lounges overseas on Honeymoon

2) platinum for 19 months

3) guaranteed gold until feb 2016

with my new status i was very happy when I rang Cathay and asked for an exit row for myself and my boss for a Taiwan trip and got all 4 legs for free when it cost my boss $250.

Status runs are worth it if you do a lot of Y flying and you exploit all the benefits that higher status gives you.

And my mrs reckons its a smart investment.

I also love a day on a plane drinking nice wines and eating great food and the networking in the lounges also has its benefits.

One must fully utilize a DSC when you get one, because you never know when you will get your next one.

Congrats on reaching Gold, and good luck with the next milestone.

Cheers to you and Mrs goose76. Best wishes for your honeymoon, and hope the First lounge is the first of many treats on this special holiday. :)

Being romantic with your partner 11sjw is definitely something I would recommend.
Double status credits for my partner this quarter is just a bit trickier due to 25 radiology treatments but going early on Friday and later on Monday makes some flights possible for weekends.
I returned with a Georg Jensen item and that was a winner this week.
I think of it as an "investment in the future".
Goose76 is definitely on the right track.

If I took a trip over the weekend, how long should the DSC take to post? Only have one week until requalification....thanks! :)

Looks like 2 days this promotion (after the base has posted)... but even if the credits post late, they'll count to your previous membership year.

I just did a OOL-SYD-CBR return JASA - I needed to go to CBR anyway, and U class business was cheap. The normal points have posted and as soon as the DSCs post I'll be SG for the first time :)

I completed my first DSC run thursday/Friday last week OOL-SYD-MEL-HBA JASA and HBA-MEL-HBA economy and HBA-MEL-SYD-OOL JASA - it was a long two days. The DSC posted for the first run 23 may overnight so hopeful the 24 may run will post today.

As above, I'm assuming this'll take you to Gold? By my calculations that's 520SC!

Just shy - I wanted to get my Silver pack - so I am 10 SC short - so a quick trip to SYD next month and then wait for the gold pack.

Would be interesting to know how much extra business the DSC promotions generate for qantas in relation to the cost of providing access to lounges etc that are already open.

On the surface it seems pretty generous of Qantas but I think when you look at the return for them in extra dollars from flights people might not have been going to take it must be pretty lucrative for them in helping to build loads.

WIN/WIN all round ??

Disappointingly my DSC from my flight on Sunday didn't post in time for my flights to and from Melbourne today. :(

Missed out on QP access by 40SC.

Funnily enough my normal SC from this mornings flight have posted already.

I am guessing only a few dozen flyers would have been real serious SC chasers. Those flyers would have just flown enough to reach a certain status level, maybe a small portion of those would have gone above what was necessary like targeting LT status. Flying J on the SC runs would have given all the benefits of status anyway (except the status bonus) so most of those status perks again are negligible (in terms of cost to QF).

If one was attempting to reach a certain level, say SG via DSC, then they probably wouldn't have flown enough to make the most of status generally thus any future costs as a result of new status would be pretty low. Those who fly enough to reach status, but were aiming to get to LT status more quickly, then again the cost is negligible to QF because they already earnt status under traditional means and had all the benefits anyway.

I had booked my status run as I had planned to do 4x140k QFF 35,000 mile trips in 2014 with my family group of 4 people, however last week I had to purchase a new car so that is going to delay Europe trip until 2015 - I could have cancelled the JASA but thought 600 to retain and probably no DSC offer was to good to refuse for the following year. So yes Qantas got a lot more in points and money then I would otherwise have spent - so hopefully a win/win for us both

My 1st Jasa status run in may and my next one 1 in June are 2 fold. Enjoy the experience of J flying as my company only flies us in whY and I can't afford to fly J privately and silver stAtus hasn't afforded me any points upgrades.

Secondly, I fly to Asia 4-5 times a year for work, generally on a red eye so a few scotches in an outbound lounge are a good thing. Also CX give free exit rows for ruby/silver+ so a trip to Taipei gives $250 of free exit row value on every trip.

My mrs and I put every thing on the card so we are racking up the points. Take in the loyalty bonuses and loadings for higher status on QF metal and the cost of status runs drop dramatically and they become a good financial decision.

I'm not going to mention any figures, but in April I spent nearly quadruple what I would usually spend a month. They made their money.

did not get the offer.. again! after last year. requested from qantas but have not seen anything
