Double Status Credits 2013

Would be interesting to know how much extra business the DSC promotions generate for qantas in relation to the cost of providing access to lounges etc that are already open.

On the surface it seems pretty generous of Qantas but I think when you look at the return for them in extra dollars from flights people might not have been going to take it must be pretty lucrative for them in helping to build loads.

WIN/WIN all round ??

I booked several flights on Qantas that would otherwise have been Virgin flights. They made their money out of me (as an aside, this also helped me reach LTS a few months earlier than I otherwise would have).

Thanks for choosing QF, and congrats on reaching LTS. :)

Hi Red Roo... can you give us some guidance on how such promotions are targeted? Or not targeted? I work on a site where 75% of the people have been offered the double SCs, but the others have not. it seems very random. And I do more flying than anyone on site.. some only do the site>PEr run return. I cant see any logic in it?

While I cannot offer specifics, your profile must have the relevant options selected in order to be considered for such promotions. Should you wish to discuss this further, please contact our Frequent Flyer team on 13 11 31 or [email protected].

Think the logic is to give it to those who don't fly a lot but just enough. I've had to two offers in past 3 years, had done some Q Int. travel and booked another 8 months in advance, maybe seeing the travel gap they offered me a new DS offer as I may not have retained SG for next year, so took it up by going to AKL recently as JASA, they gain extra flights I keep status till Nov. 1st 2014.

I've been offered DSC twice, once this year and once three years ago. Both years I've had an international QF trip early in the membership year and a few other flights later, resulting in me being PS at the time of the offer. For both the DSCs along with my likely flying wouldn't have gotten me to SG - but an extra trip or changing a Y trip to J would have.

I was able to due to time and money the few years ago, but this time I booked a JASA instead of paying for Y on a recent trip which got me to SG. What do Qantas get out of it? Me using up some points which are probably worth more than than the red e-deal I would have otherwise bought, and some of my flights next year more likely to be on QF so I can use the lounge.

As Limewood said the obvious target are people with the right amount of flights so that either:
1) A DSC offer with their expected bookings wouldn't make the next status level, but with an extra flight or higher cabin booking would (getting more revenue during the DSC period), or
2) Are more likely to fly QF next year to take advantage of their improved status (more revenue next year).

A few of us discussed this with the Red Roo's at the Adelaide coughtail party recently.

The answer is that it appears to use the same logic as the dark art of yield management. If you think you understand how it works then you are probably wrong :!:

Right on, we don't understand it (who does) but maybe our guess is correct?.

From my perspective unlikely. The only DSC offers I've received have been while platinum, and flying enough to retain fairly easily. In fact as I've already well retained this year the offer may get me to "additional platinum privileges"

So have been holding my breath for the last month... have to book 15 flights for the next two months and have held off hoping to get a DSC email (renewal is AUG).

I know it's a long shot, but I think it's worth delaying a bulk reservation for the matter a few weeks. My question is I have read they are usually sent out the first couple of days of each month, would it be safe to assume that if I haven't got the DSC email by COB next Tuesday the 4th June that I haven't had any luck?

Maybe they just put them in a (large) hat and choose that way :).

Entirely possible, or the electronic equivalent thereof! I thought mine might be because I quite often book Qantas one way and Virgin the other, depending on what times are convenient.

Being romantic with your partner 11sjw is definitely something I would recommend.
Double status credits for my partner this quarter is just a bit trickier due to 25 radiology treatments but going early on Friday and later on Monday makes some flights possible for weekends.
I returned with a Georg Jensen item and that was a winner this week.
I think of it as an "investment in the future".
Goose76 is definitely on the right track.

It's along those lines cove that I took up the AMEX Plat Charge Card again. I get the 80k points and my wife's b'day present was a trip interstate! I come up looking the goods and get the points windfall! Aint love grand? :D

Back on topic. I am (or will very soon when some SC's post) got myself to 145 SC's short of 2400. Is it worth chasing them? I'd probably take the 50k points?

If you're not Lifetime yet, even if getting to 2400 cost you 50k points (thus not making anything), you'd still push yourself closer to lifetime.

I was only 60 SC off WP for year ending 31st July and received the DSC offer. To celebrate I've booked J runs to visit family in TSV and ZQN (via AKL) & will pick up 1,040 SC and 2 more loyalty bonuses. Used up some of the Qantas vouchers I bought last year on the 10 QFF points per $ offer.

Pity I didn't have DSC offer for the last 2 trips year to Europe this year. One in J and one in F. That would have been too good to be true.

I suspect the DSC offer comes through when your SC are close to the next level and you're towards the end of your year.

i did get a DSC offer earlier on from OOL, but didn't use it.

For bulk bookings, I would be more worried about my credit card statement cycle than the DSC mail-out cycle. :)
