Double Status Credits 2013

Dear Qantas,

Like all passionate full-on relationships, we have had our ups and downs.

It's been a very full-on year - we have spent more time together than ever before, almost 2400 days (SCs), but lately I've been feeling like it's just not enough, like there's something missing, just feeling a little.... how you say..... unsatisfied....

I've even developed a little wandering eye - flirting not so innocently with a young Virgin, who whilst not having your experience, does have a little more of that attractive chemistry that makes the dalliance so Golden.

Recently I've tried all avenues to reach out to you in an attempt to re-spark things, to perhaps propel our relationship to even loftier heights.

But you've denied all my pleas to join me in Double Status Credit Relationship Counseling :(

I still hold hopes for our relationship in the long term..... But you seem too busy to spend the quality time with me that I'm looking for right now. Hopefully you'll forgive me for spending more time with my Virgin mistress for now......

Just remember - I'm willing to welcome you back with a big reward if you decide to share more love with me xx_

Obviously you are too easy and "she" has not had to work hard enough to gain your favours and you have just given them away !

after our recent trip earning my parents 200 sc each my dad was sent a double sc promotion today but not my mum.

After understanding the implications to DSC for a few years this morning I check my email to a nice surprise. Offer ready and waiting. Now for WP

Anniversary date 30/9
Book and fly from now til end of August.

Yew!

I am becoming obsessed with this thread, keep checking to see who has the offer and who has not...hoping that both other half and I receive DSC offer on August 1 or earlier to qualify for platinum by end of October renew date. Its like waiting for your tattslotto numbers to come up.

I wasn't anticipating getting the offer this year so did a couple of JASAs to get closer. I was only 130 SCs short of SG when I got the offer. I did another JASA run anyway even though I had until the end of October to requalify so I've made it but I don't fancy it's worth pushing on to WP this year as I need a LOT of SCs and I'm not flying much.

The problem is that I'm likely to miss out on requalifying for SG with VA unless they do a double SC offer. And I fly with them regularly but just not enough. No shortcuts with them that I know of.

Damn, was hoping September anniversaries would get an offer next month. I guess Gold is not for me this time! Next membership year then :)

Strange. Just got one of these to entice me to attain silver - I didn't think they bothered sending these out for members to attain the lowest tier of attainable status. It's nice that they like to accommodate us newbies :)

While nobody knows what determines who/what will receive a DSC offer if it's not entirely random the following may help:
- Currently at 180 Status Credits (120 required for Silver Status)
- I've flown 9 Segments (4 QF; 4 CX; 1 JQ)
- JQ Segment did not accrue any points (no bundle)
- I've attained points from 1 Hotel Stay
- All travel has been to Asia

About a week ago I was contemplating whether to air freight a few samples over from China or fly there and scope them out over there while taking a little detour through Indonesia to visit a friend. Seems like Qantas is trying to make a choice for me! Decisions decisions!

Good post Yoz, I was in a similar boat, - Bronze, never been Silver with Qantas but had only made 2 JQ flights in the year for 120 or 150 SC's. Only other points gained were by the new Qantas CC (including a sign up bonus), and was in my final 3 months of the Qantas year.
Will be interesting to see if the Good Lady gets a similar offer when she approached her final 3 months.

Yoz, silver?, go for gold and a whole new world will be there for you, grab a JASA or J fare and once done see you in the lounge .

Was expecting some activity yesterday, being a Tuesday and more than 2 days since activity/activity made it to my account, but haven't seen anything, so things have slowed down... ;) I don't really want to have to wait 6 weeks! :p

Edit: Now I can eat my words, as all doubles just hit my account. Halfway to P1 now ;)

I've thought about it but sadly, a fully paid J fare is out of the question. I've about 120K QFF Points and could potentially get gifted (and reimburse) 100K from a family member. However, that's not enough to JASA in and/or out of Beijing or Jakarta :(

I've calculated my proposed itinerary is ~85 points (x2 = 170) which takes me to about 350 points. Certainly possible to do an xASA Status Run but not sure how much of an impact gold will have when I probably fly 3x to Asia per year, along with one holiday to another destination.

I'm probably a couple years away from doing a 280K OneWorld Award though - and I think having gold/lounge access would be pretty nifty when doing it given the amount of time in airports. Hopefully I get a DSC that year :P

Yoz, YMMV but I immediately noticed the difference getting to PS for the first time, just on domestic: e.g. Exit row seat selection for one. One major difference for your Asian flights as SG will be Lounge access - you will also be OWS. Markis10 pointed out a CNS-SIN SR recently which was very affordable as a JASA and could possibly be combined as part of one of your Asian trips... Just throwin' it out there...

Mmm. Thanks for the information.

Just took a look and can find MEL-SIN (via SYD) for about 200K points (incl. taxes) which seems very reasonable. However, the fare will probably be gone once I transfer my points across (from Citibank) and get the transfer from a family member. Would get 320 SCs (x2 = 640) which would mean I reach SG. However, then I have to factor in the cost of SIN-PEK and PEK-CGK. It'll really come down to cost given that I'm self-employed via an online business which has been running for a couple of years.

While Gold would definitely be a nice touch.. I do not have that much travel planned in the next status year.. but then again I had no travel planned for this status year and I've made 2-3 trips to Asia.

Where are you based Yoz?.

I'm currently freezing my butt off in Melbourne. Why is it so cold!?

As someone who achieved QF silver for the first time last year it has been worth it for me.

- Exit row can be obtained. Invaluable at my height. Front row of economy has also been possible (In April I had 23B with 23A blocked on an A330 flight to MEL)
- 50% points bonus is great. I have gained an extra 14,000 points with this over what I would otherwise have earned since mid-July.
- Phone seems to be answered much quicker, I very rarely have to wait (especially during business hours)
- Free advanced seat selection on international has saved me some cash as well (though it's kinda hard to save money on QFi when you live in Perth!)
- Priority check-in at international has also saved me time at airports. Note you can also use the Premium desks domestically - a benefit which I think was removed but I have noticed the signage at airports now indicates Silver can use these lanes.

Reason I moved from south to Cairns years ago, today its a beautiful 20c overnight to a beautiful sunny 27c now.

Yeah I say that not much travel next year, but find I do.

Keep in mind on a YASA or JASA you'll get points back.

I received the DC offer recently and sailed past SG, thought dam it go for WP (first time), off to Perth next week on a JASA with Mrs Lime (she in Y! unfortunately), have 3 trips at least in next year (2 OS) so I'm sure we/she will enjoy the better lounges etc. and extra points to boot.

Why don't you look at Jetstar Business Class to Singapore and Beijing with a max bundle. The fares are often very reasonable and you would earn 220 status credits each way.
