Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

So I've seen some people say they're going to use their $450 travel credit from their Amex cards. These obviously have to be booked through Amex Travel so you can get the credit. If you book during the promo period and have registered for DSC's I'm guessing you will get a PNR that will make you eligible for DSC's?

I'm looking at chasing gold for the furst time. Will look at flying later in the year as my membership ends sround June 30 so I can have the gold membership until June 30 2020 would that be correct? Miss V and I are looking at doing a trip to Europe and around Europe in 2019 so we'll love to have the lounge access. We'd also like to do some award bookings so the higher status will help with that. We also do a few domestic flights a year but normally only fly eco so lounge access would be nice too. Would anybody have any ideas as to how is one of the cheapest and most efficient way to gain the SC's with this promo? I'm not really keen on doing the intra asia hops so something similar to what was posted here would be great. Thanks all!

Hullo AFFers,

I just re-registered for this promotion as I did not receive a confirmation email the first time I registered yesterday and I read the conditions which state "Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits."

I was hoping to buy a few vouchers and use them later in the year as most of my bookings that have any element of certainty are for October and November 2018.

I might be able to firm up my October booking in the next couple of days (which is only a MEL-SYD return) but it looks like Qantas have plugged one of our little loopholes.

hths.

You and I are thinking on the same lines...
My membership renews May 31st. I'm thinking of doing a status run around August so that I'm covered for Gold when I'm in EU in 2nd half 2019.
But I'm wondering too - when would my Gold Status expire? Is it the date it starts + 1 year, or membership renewal ?

If you're in VIC, try going to Christchurch via Brisbane in business. Should get you a nice collection of SC.

The consensus is that this refers to the purchase of the voucher itself - which does not earn credits, rather than the flights later booked with it. Lots of talk about vouchers in this thread :(

When I read it it states vouchers purchased but not redeemed during the promotion period are not eligible.

If you go to the Qantas site and click to register for the promotion (found on the front page), it will take you to a page where you click to register. Do NOT click to register but scroll down to read the important information.

About a third of the way down it states "Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits."

I think if you purchase the voucher you need to redeem it by the end of the promotion period.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't there yesterday. Maybe too many people asked Qantas about it so they decided to add that in today.

Edit: Original T&Cs are in post #14. They did add that new sentence today.

That is definitely new wording and rather specific.

However it could ALSO be interpreted as the promotional period for travel being Feb 12-Jan 20, but if you used a voucher you bought Feb 1-5 to redeem a flight for say Jan 21, 2019 then it wouldn't be eligible

though the wording definitely implies a close to the magic. if so.. disappointing. but.. we'll see :)

Indeed. I made a booking during a previous double status credit promo a few years ago, then subsequently had to change the date of some of the flights. Still got the DSCs.

If you were to change the PNR though (i.e. cancel and rebook, generating a new PNR outside the promo period) then you would not get them.

I just asked the FF service centre about this and they said that any changes would forfeit the DSCs... is this true?

The more I read the T&C on the register page I note multiple references to the "Promotion Period" which is set as 12 Feb-20 Jan. The gift voucher line states "Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits" yet later on ". Full or part travel of an itinerary is eligible only if you book and travel within the promotional dates as listed above. If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.

I think as usual the wording is poor as it can be interpreted a few ways, but the other references to promotional period refer to the travel dates.

I consider it equally valid a notion that a voucher purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period means just that... What's the opposite? a "voucher purchased and redeemed for an eligible flight.." would earn which is the expected behaviour. It does not mention the booking period(Feb 1-5) but the PROMOTIONAL period.

I think this just enforces the current logic of a flight booked to fly within the promotion period is eligible...

but I am open to thinking the other interpretation is obviously possible, but if it was I think it should say "flight gift vouchers purchased during the promotion booking period, but not redeemed during this period, are not eligible.

I think there is wiggle room here. Of course it's how QF Loyalty are going to interpret it that matters, and the wording suggests what we think they mean... so we may well see in a few weeks if it's true or not when someone actually tries it in anger.

Too many phone calls for clarification I’d say. :(

Interesting legal point here. We bought gift vouchers on Tuesday after registering for the DSC and there was no such condition or limitation so they will have to honour the original purchase T&C on the date the vouchers were purchased.

Also as discussed above , the promotional booking period and the promotional period are different. The promotional period would seem to legally be defined as for flights until jan 19.

NO. They are reading the words but not understanding the full meaning (IMHO).

As in the past changes made to a booking that do NOT result in a reissue, such as a date change, will still earn DSC (as long as such changes keep the flights within the promotion period of course).

Changes that would invalidate DSC would be ones resulting in a reissue, and thus creation of a new PNR, such as city pair changes.

I think QF should be more specific with their wording to be clear that date changes are OK.

At least this has been everyone's experience in practice over previous promotions, and it makes no sense to disallow changes like date changes that are trivial.

If I'm wrong the mea culpa, but I am 99% certain here.

except the T&C's are for the DSC promo, not for purchase of gift vouchers themselves.

What's more interesting is if this line was added post the promotion's launch yesterday (Thursday 1 Feb).

There must be a screenshot of the original somewhere here?

What's frustrating me is that I just want to know what I need to do to book some flights and get double status credits. I don't want to go to university for 4 years and graduate as a lawyer in order to understand how to do so.

Even more frustrating for me is that my flights are so far out and I know that at least half of them are likely to change (and have done so in the past). I am prepared to cop a flight change fee here and there but it is getting to the point that if it is so difficult to figure out the system why should I bother giving Qantas my money now?

Here you go.

I have to say I'm rather dismayed at the amount of public discussion on you know what.

Excellent. Might come in handy for a few.

There is a known risk in doing any of this. If you just want DSC then register and book flights by 5 Feb on Qantas metal with QF codes and travel by 20 (?) January with the journey starting in Australia.

I've just been on QF chat and this is what they said. Note they needed to go away for 5 minutes to find out the answer.

So called up QF, they gave contradictory advice (also after going away for 5 minutes)

They said to buy voucher excluding the infant in the passenger count and then call up to add the infant after booking (or alternatively book via CC and they will add infant)

I suppose it depends if adding an infant to an existing booking creates a PNR change?

I am not sure why so many think there is a price conspiracy going on around the timing of DSC promo, QF and other airline fares change almost every day based on the fare bucket that is available. As per my normal school holiday routine (almost a year in advance ) I had book MrsM and MissM reward J seats then I just sit back and wait for a QF sale to book my ticket.

In this case we will be going to Hong Kong and China in Sep/Oct 18. At the time of booking their reward bookings the cash price for my ticket (to be on the same flights) was AUD4,800. A few weeks (or months) later whenever the HKG sale was on I could have booked for AUD3600. I still held out thinking a better offer may come along. It did DSC and the total J cash price paid last night was around AUD3300.
