Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

For those traveling further afield. I'd been holding out for an SC offer with positioning flights into CAI. Have been at a bit of a loose end since the QR regional kerfuffle.

Fares Ex-CAI have been mentioned in a few posts. The difficult part being to get as many sectors as possible on QF metal.

Managed to utilise the Amex Explorer $400 travel credit (via phone) to book a 10 sector return to WLG. (I understand same might be possible to ZQN, but couldn't get it to price as cheap).

Routing via SIN on the outbound and back via BKK on the inbound. even though first and last flights are on EK operated & Marketed (Amex travel had all sorts of trouble getting the final sector onto a QF codeshare).

Total SCs (including bonuses) 1290 at $2.25 per SC
Hoping to get the last sector sorted onto that QF codeshare which would bring SCs up to 1400 and add ~$150 to the price. (yielding around $2.19 per SC)

If you skip any stopovers at all, possible to get SCs up to 1510 and close to $2 per SC. I don't think it would be very much fun though.

Books into Flexible Business. Fare Basis CSEG and tickets onto 081 stock.

Hope this helps someone.

I have booked a few flights this time that I would have bought anyway. It just bought the purchase forward by a few weeks. I doubt I will go out of my way to do a status run with QF as I will make WP again with normal flying. That will coincide with me managing LTG. So any further QF SCs earned this year will be wasted.

Time to look across the pond.

Ok, onto a different type of voucher.

I have a credit voucher from a cancelled fare late last year. I had no definite plans for it atm, then this came along. I realise the PNR creation date is not in the promo period, but by chance , has anyone ever had any luck making a call to QF and getting it altered to create a new PNR? Other than cancelling it all together, in which would I would lose $$.

Anyone?

Can't be done. A ticket is tied to the PNR. There are ways around it but I doubt they'd be willing to entertain.

Anyone know if flights booked on Qantas - Jetconnect are considered as "Operated By Qantas with QF flight number" and therefore eligible for this DSC promotion?

Thanks Tim.

Depending on the original voucher value, and how much you are willing to spend you could buy a voucher for $50. Then use it to create a flight via the call center and use your earlier voucher as part payment for the new flight. Then turn this flight back into a voucher for another 12 months.

Yes QF Jetconnect are valid for DSC promotion
As are QantasLink fares

Awesome.... BONUS... and I mean that literally... :D

Thanks for quick reply... can see a couple of $1700 = 500SC weekend runs to CCH and WLG in my future to basically tie up WP for another year.

Not true... you can reissue a ticket into a new PNR no problems.

I'm aware of that... in the context of the QF call centre it's about whether they are willing to do it.

Thanks madrooster, pretty much as I expected tbh. Hope you got my PM and email also.

I see where your going there. Interesting! Thanks, but working on other options. Have sometime to use it, so will wait till later in the year as travel plans develop.

Also take note of my follow up post #333 in this thread too. No harm asking is my opinion.

As long as you book your flights by 5/2 for travel by Jan 2019 you will be fine. I doesn't matter when the credit voucher was created, as long as it is still a valid credit voucher.

After you fly you will need to contact QF to have the DSC credited manually.

The more I read the T&C on the register page I note multiple references to the "Promotion Period" which is set as 12 Feb-20 Jan. The gift voucher line states "Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits" yet later on ". Full or part travel of an itinerary is eligible only if you book and travel within the promotional dates as listed above. If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.

I think as usual the wording is poor as it can be interpreted a few ways, but the other references to promotional period refer to the travel dates.

I consider it equally valid a notion that a voucher purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period means just that... What's the opposite? a "voucher purchased and redeemed for an eligible flight.." would earn which is the expected behaviour. It does not mention the booking period(Feb 1-5) but the PROMOTIONAL period.

I think this just enforces the current logic of a flight booked to fly within the promotion period is eligible...
Promotional period lasts to 20 Jan 2019, any voucher purchased during DSC period lasts 12 months ie to at least 1-5 Feb 2019. After some family discussion (ie with another AFFer) we decided QF has closed an area of ambiguity to ensure there is no confusion - it means that a voucher purchased during the promotional booking period and redeemed from 21 Jan to 1-5 Feb 2019 will not earn DSCs.

Just our 2c worth.

Is there a typo there? This bit “... from 21 Jan to 1-5 Feb 2019 will not earn DSCs”. Just checking.
