Double status credits on offer for eligible Qantas flights

I received the offer from QF a few days ago. Been Silver for years and in danger of losing it at the end of May. BFOD work policy has meant that nearly all flying has been with VA and will probably make it to Velocity Gold this year. Unless QF fares get back to being competative I doubt I will requalify silver on QF.

seems that people are still getting the offer... my wife might need one later this year as she will probably be around 100 short of requal for WP on 1 OCT

Officially feeling left out now! I'm also 31 May year end and short SCs to requal WP but no offer.

I will need to get the JASA planning going!

With last years offer, I ended up going from silver to sg to wp in one - not-so-foul swoop. I currently have a choice of 3 different coloured q-cards to use when flying

Anyone up for a game of snap?

I'll get Silver by 30 April so hopefully this time next year I get a double SC offer and can make a play for SG!

With respect, I disagree. Most "assisted" WP will most likely have been mid to high level SG (800-1100SC) otherwise and these promotions get them over the WP line. If the "assisted" WP earnt most of their SC on domestic discount economy flights, they are still most likely flying a fair bit (that is 40-60 domestic sectors on average pa). Therefore, there is a very good chance that a real WP will have to complete with the "assisted" WP for the limited benefits available.

All I ask for is a level playing field, nothing else. Why should some pay less to get the same benefits as others (as SC cost real money to obtain).

Thanks to Double SC's last year I was assisted to WP although I started the year with Silver. I will probably just scrape through retaining WP this year, but would not have made it if it was not for the offer. Those of us (like me) that travel a couple of times every month on short regional runs can find it more difficult to attain the status. But does that make us less worthy FFs than those that are traveling on international runs or runs that do have the option of upgrading cabin class? - IMHO no!

The flip side of the coin is that now I have attained the status I am more likely to travel the extra to retain it. In other words the promotions have won QA extra business from me. not to mention those that I fly with and talk to.

</end rant>

Ditto - last year's double SC offer combined with three (long and tiring!) days of flying took me straight from almost-PS to almost-WP (I left myself ~100 SC short as I already had flights booked in the weeks following my SC run to make the extra ~100 SCs). I would have made PS and might have made SG without the offer, but definitely wouldn't have made WP - not to mention that SC-running got me to WP in July last year, ~8 months earlier than I would have made SG (if I even made it at all).

I still feel a bit guilty sometimes - that I "gamed" the system - but I guess at the end of the day if QF chose to offer me a double SC offer (and JASAs!) then I'm within my rights to use it however I see fit.

This is a good point, and definitely applies to me also.

Apart from the points and $$ I burned / spent attaining status, I will almost certainly burn / spend more in the future to retain status. Plus, I'm booking QF flights far more often than previously. I used to spread my domestic travel around a bit whereas now it's all QF, and previously I would almost never travel QF int whereas now I have a preference for QF assuming the fare / convenience difference isn't massive.

Then there's also the "people I talk to" benefit for QF, as you mentioned. As one personal example, since seeing the benefits I get as a QF WP, the owner of the company I work for is directing his 2 / 3 annual long-haul J trips to QF to attain status of his own rather than spreading them around amongst different airlines. Next up is teaching him the benefits of JASAs :-)

Does this make having assisted me to WP "worth it" for QF? I can't say for certain but I reckon the answer is almost definitely yes: I cost them a bit more due to having lounge access, extra baggage, access to premium desk, etc, but I doubt these minor extra costs outweigh the extra revenue I'm generating for them both directly and indirectly due to attaining WP.

I just did the first leg of my BNE-SYD-BNE on a JASA. I have been credited the base 40 SC but not the double SC as offered in February. Do I need to chase this up or are they credited at a later date?

Did you register for the double?

I would wait a week or so but if nothing appears by then I would follow up.

So now that VA have got an offer for double SC's until 30 June, I wonder if QF are going to feel pressured to matching

We need to be mindful that VA is doing double SC for a very specific reason to specific customers, and that if QF was to match the offer in the same fashion - it would do a lot of damage to their program. Now is the time QF need to innovate and come up with something fresh and exciting.

Agree with your comment trippin_the_rift

I could have a lot of travel in the next 3 months, so double SC's on both airlines would be nice, particularly as I am still on 0 SC's for my membership year (after 2 months) and it's been 6 months since I stepped aboard QF (misture of trying VA and not much flying).

Got any suggestions? Anyway I received the offer from Virgin but I'm currently trying to ensure my status with Q so bring on the reactive, copy-cat action please.

Wait until after Easter before booking any Q.

I've taken your earlier advice on this topic to heart, markis10.
Now waiting - very impatiently - as I have given up hope of finding a usable JASA for an upcoming European trip.
Fingers crossed that post-Easter offerings emerge.:)

+1 except insert "USA" for "Europe" :D

40 SCs through this promo and I'm 10 away from Gold. Will secure that well before 30 April.

Apologies if this has already been answered but as you can imagine there are maaaany threads on AFF concerning double status credits....

For the double status credit promotion that is running to accept bookings before June 30 2012 with travel prior to the end of August, has anyone noticed they have received double SCs for either JQ or 3K flights?

Not sure I'm reading the angle of the questions right - have you received double JQ/3K SCs?? For a 3K flight last week I wasn't expecting any additional SCs and I haven't received any. The normal SCs posted the next day and that's all. I am still waiting for my 4000 Jetstar promo miles though...
