Double Status Credits promotion (Book by 27/2/24, travel 28/2/24-14/2/25)

Also dug up a PC classic award in J BNE-PER-MEL-SYD-BNE which probably isn't as good value but wedding anniversary in PER and PER-MEL in the A330 ensured Mrs Pineapple's enthusiasm. That should do me for today.
PER-MEL A330 J is a rare reward at the moment... or was that the overnight?

Argh - this is a month earlier than expected! We need to travel to Bocas del Toro, Panama in August but the trip is not yet confirmed. I was going to book it with DSC in March and I haven't even worked out how to do route the trip yet.

What's the advice? Just book to LAX and book the other flights separately? We haven't decided if we wanted to include JFK in the trip or not, either....

Should I be looking at a Round Pacific fare instead?

Thanks for suggestions.

I would book to LAX and worry about the internal / short hop flights later.

Define decent in $ per SC?

Last year OOL-MEL-AKL + AKL-MEL-OOL in J was $1440 yielded 560 SCs, so less than $3 per SC.

SYD-MEL-WLG + WLG-MEL-SYD in J the year before was cheaper again.

Both time travelled on long weekend, this year on all the long weekends same route $600 more.

This year seems like QF website is pricing each segment, not allowing indirect routing for same price as direct. Making a long weekend in NZ to visit friends and also top up SCs far less attractive.

Unlike others here i dont do pure status runs, I use the promo for my short trips.

Am hoping maybe some sale drops somewhere before it ends. Even SYD-MEL in Y is over $400 when usually about no more than $360.

I can't pick my time to travel so often can't use double status offers when they turn up. However, today is an exception. I have a trans-tasman booking happening as we speak. Oh Joy,joy, joy!

I note that there is a choice of awards, SCs or Points. I haven't noticed that before. I am early in my anniversary year so it's SCs all the way.

I've booked 2 x PER-MEL-SYD-AKL-SYD-MEL-BNE-PER using Awards (PC Plus) or discount Y ($) to get to/from Melbourne. Looks like the total nett will be 1,420 SC's. Total Points used: 155.5k Total Dollars: $4.4k

Edit: Forgot the double SC's on the J Reward Flights so 1,420 it is.

Royal Air Maroc. Finnair and RJ have also historically been good, but something's been up with them recently.
Used to be able to that on CX but don't know anymore. On MH, I am able to do so at check in.
Above are done booking as Marco Polo & Enrich member but changed to QFF.

Can you no longer buy vouchers during the DSC promo to use later during the promo travel period and still earn DSC?
Clear as mud ?

This seemed to suggest that if you had GVs on hand before the date that you could use them during the period to pay for a booking and be eligible

But you couldn’t carry them over unused
T&Cs
Flight gift vouchers purchased during the promotion but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Qantas Points or double Status Credits.
However see

I might take part in this DSC 🤷‍♂️
If I do i'll prob end up using some AS miles in some interesting ways 😎

Not likely to do the below but just checking I have the following correct:

syd-mel-ool J award (18+28) *2 = 92sc
ool-mel-syd J award (18+28) *2 = 92sc

ool-mel-akl-mel-ool J $1760 (140*2) *2 = 560sc
comfort seat $1500 (base fare) = 560sc
+ 50sc bonus for 500sc

cash outlay $1760+$1500 = $3,260
total status credits 92+92+560+560+50= 1354
another 50sc green tier gives 1404sc for WP

As my anniversary is end of January so assuming I did the above flights in early Feb 2025 I would end up with the following status for each year
WP - 2025
WP - 2026
SG - 2027

One of the tricks to swing around the GV issue was to
BuY a GV
BUY THE CHEAPEST FULL FLEXI FARE FROM X TO Y
A day later, cancel it and pop it into a Flight credit to use it without fees later on down the track
I need to circle back on this
From the T&Cs it would appear cancel means you lose the DSC ON THE FLIGHT CREDIT
However, changing it later as long as inside the dates is perfectly fine

syd-mel-ool J award (18+28) *2 = 92sc
ool-mel-syd J award (18+28) *2 = 92sc

ool-mel-akl-mel-ool J $1760 (140*2) *2 = 560sc
comfort seat $1500 (base fare) = 560sc
+ 50sc bonus for 500sc

cash outlay $1760+$1500 = $3,260
total status credits 92+92+560+560+50= 1354
another 50sc green tier gives 1404sc for WP
Looks about right given PineappleSkips maths and the follow up

So if someone did SYD-OOL/BRI/MEL J fares at $449
40 SC x 2 = $80
Return 160 ($898)
2 x Trips = 320 SCs ($1796)

v the 560 SC calculated above for slightly cheaper spend AND
So if those $1284 fares are around …
