Double Status Credits promotion (Book by 27/2/24, travel 28/2/24-14/2/25)

Found the link from 2020 promo where Matt explains the process:

Thanks, Lat34. That clears it up. The T&C of the flex fare were not clear to me on the Q site:

"A cancellation fee of AUD $99 applies for bookings"? Maybe should read "A cancellation fee of AUD $99 applies for refunds"

I thought that the $99 fee might apply to all flex cancellations but clearly that's not the case. Hence my earlier (misguided) post about booking a red e-deal.

Perhaps "paging @Matt_01 to the white courtesy telephone" might be appropriate.
@airbound I have been messing around with bookings made during DSC promotions since 2017. The wording around promotional periods, gift vouchers etc. are just words (often confusing and poorly written) and IME all that matters is the PNR create date and then you can change anything you want. Sometimes you may have to call if things are more complicated. The booking will retain all the conditions under which it was created and the create date is the important thing. In 2017 I was caught out as I jumped in early and the creation time although correct in Australia the booking engine works on UTC (GMT).

These are some of my 2018 posts when dealing with gift vouchers, cancelling flights, rebooking etc.
This was a post around using gift vouchers in 2020
In 2020 I also explained to how to do it.
Also this is a copy of a PM that I had sent to another AFFer during the 2020 DSC offer.

FWIW rather than make speculative bookings what I have done this morning is book 22 flights BCI-LRE. They are flexible and cost about $140 per flight. By the end of today I will have cancelled every one of them and changed them into vouchers. These can then just sit in my QF account until I need them with the PNR being created during the DSC booking window. It is pretty fail safe it saves on cash now. In the future I will rebook during other sale periods and closer to future travel.

On another note, Covid came along so I did not get to use the flights and at a time when QF were only refunding cash for fully refundable flight I started combining the vouchers (you can use up to 4 at a time) and as there were no change fees it didn’t cost anything. I created new booking cancelled them back to other vouchers rinsing and repeating the process several times and I had to do it this way so as to avoid the cancellation fees. When I was down to around 6 vouchers I created a couple of refundable J bookings and then cancelled them for a cash refund without paying any fees. By around June 2020 I had all my money back from QF and never had to worry about flight credits.

Even though QF displays dates in Sydney time for promos, in practice their computer systems use GMT. So bookings made before midnight GMT on the opening day of promos don’t credit DSC automatically.

Probably not an issue if you are trying to make a complicated multi-city booking on the first day of the DSC offer - as I learned! 🤣

So booking at 8.30 am on opening day of promo will have me having to chase up DSC @mviy ?
It was the only time of the day I could do it.
It is what it is, but thanks for the heads up.

Maybe not. It just depends, but if there is an issue with DSC not posting (after the appropriate time frame), there's a fair idea why and then they may need to manually adjust.

That sounds very strange and I'd dispute it. Why on earth would QF's systems use GMT (ie we're not in Greenwich Kent) for processing transactions locally? It might be used for synchronisation, but otherwise you wouldn't see it.

So, what are you saying? That all bookings made before 11 am Eastern Summer Time on the first day of the promo wouldn't count?

Doesn't make sense.

GDS systens like Amadeus tend to operate in UTC as a universal standard time. Same for airline ops too I think. Keeps everything consistent.

UTC and GMT tend to be used interchangeably though UTC is more modern nomenclature. Also known as Zulu time.. ie you may see 0000Z as a reference.

Of course, but Australian airlines know that and compensate for it. Otherwise we're all living in Greenwich..

When I book a flight from anywhere not close to Greenwich, I expect the times quoted to be local,

They may have fixed it, but past experience would suggest that they may not have.

I don’t want to have to manually chase up DSC so I always wait before making my first booking.

In their frontends yes, but I suspect, like most things QF, there's been a problem (in the past at least) with this that has appeared to relate to the UTC date being before the promo date when bookings have been evaluated for DSC. Ie work experience kids not allowing for this. It may well have been fixed. Definitely used to be a thing imo.

Of course the systems quote time in local time however in the backend everything is calculated in UTC, this is the way all international bookings engines work. It is why you can book from AU to say the UK via SIN, HKG, HND etc with all flight times being local. What @mviy was mentioning is that if you book before say 11am AEDT or 10am AEST (depending on the time of the year) the back end will think you booked prior to the promotion period starting. This caught me out in 2017 for about five bookings and I had to call QF to follow up on the DSCs.

As long as the booking was made before midnight 27th feb it should qualify.
If you set aside the words in the T's and C' you can actually book flights up to 10am AEST or 11am AEDT (depending on the time of the year) the following day in this case 28/2. In 2019 the DSC offer was not much use to me as the flight period was to 31 Aug so it was only a month I could have used it. As I had already requalified as P1 I did not need the DSCs but out of curiosity I did purchase 3 flights (1 GV, 1 regular flight, and 1 BCI-LRE just to change it and re-book) at around 9 am on the day the day after the official promotional period ended. As the back end works in UTC I suspected DSCs would still post and sure enough they did. I did not post this back in 2019 as I am sure it would have just added confusion to those who may not know how these booking engines work.

I have never seen 0000Z, it was normally written as 23:59Z or 00:01Z with the former been most common. I fully understand Zulu time and the use of it however it is mainly used by the the military and I believe in aviation.

I've booked flights in April and August... why haven't my Double Status credits arrived yet?

Ok I'm kidding but it's only time before people start asking the same question. I've had non DSC issues over the last week and reaching Qantas has been tricky. As many on here have mentioned phone agents have noted they've had a huge increase due to the DSC so lets hope things settle down now and DSC's arrive reasonably on time.

The QF CC always gets swamped when these offers get announced, IMO the T's and C's are still worded badly but at least these day QF put out the announcements around the time correct time that will not cause issues. Back in 2017 the offer was sent at around 6:00 am AEDT and that was my undoing as I booked early. In general DSC, 50% increased SC or points offers just work. Most posts/reports/complaints along the lines of 'system failure', 'QF failure', 'why haven't my Double Status credits arrived yet' are normally a result of user error or lack of understanding ;)
