Double Status Credits promotion (Book by 27/2/24, travel 28/2/24-14/2/25)

I tried the Flex placeholder option for the first time. Be aware that it uses the same booking portal as gift vouchers in that you can only book simple one way or return which must depart from Australia. Not sure if other itineraries can be booked over the phone and if they charge a phone booking fee.
How does one actually change one of these bookings into a different itinerary? When I click change in mine, it only gives me the option of changing the date. Or do you need to cancel it to a flight credit and rebook with the flight credit?

Further to this, how do people get the flight credit cancellation option to prompt? Ive tried the booking a flex fare far into the future, but when I go to cancel it only gives me a refund option.

new to dsc and have a couple of questions - the article on pointhacks says Jetstar flights are ineligible for the double status credits. This is incorrect isn’t it? It’s qf or jq metal as per the Aff articles.
Also if I got to 450 status credits using flights booked during the dsc promo, does the loyalty bonus of 50 kick in to get me to 500 status credits to reach gold? Thanks

JQ is not eligible for DSC. QF marketed and operated.

As for loyalty bonuses.
They kick in every 500 *flown* SC (up to 2000). DSC do not add to this. You need to earn 500 (not 450) by flying to earn that bonus.

Thanks for this. Those Aff DSC articles need to be udated as they state that you can book jetstar max bundles during the DSc promo and they will count. So if the booking is a combined QF,JQ booking, like AKL-OOL-SYD then only the QF flights are attracting the DSC. i read somewhere that I can cancel that booking FOC I made yesterday?

edit: I realise now that the article mentioning Jq Max bundles does not apply to DSC promotions.

There's another U reward seat available on a flight to LAX I've got coming up in a couple of monnths that was booked before the promotion (PC+). Tempted to cancel existing booking and rebook, given it'd net me another 72 credits for 6k points.

I am worried about the seat disappearing in the minutes between cancellation and rebooking though, does anyone know if the system would stop me from making the second booking first? I.e. having 2 seats on the same plane with the same name/qff #
I don't believe the system will stop you from booking a second ticket under the same name. Perhaps it may not ticket correctly, but in that case, you would still be holding the reward seat and then can escalate to the new Qantas email address to get it ticketed.
I think I have a data point for this, though it's not exactly the same as your situation...
  • Booked a QFF Classic Reward on a QF flight in X (081 ticket number).
  • About a month later, found a U award seat on the same flight via AA, and booked that since I had miles to burn (001 ticket number).
  • Forgot to cancel the previously QF ticketed reward seat.
  • Got an email from QF the next morning advising they detected a duplicate booking:
You have a duplicate booking that was created online
We'd like to confirm which booking you want to keep and use for travel

Please call as soon as you can
Call us on 13 13 13 and let us know which booking you’d would like to travel on.
Don’t forget to have the booking reference number handy when calling.
  • Cancelled the QF ticketed award seat not long afterwards via QF website so hopefully should no longer be a problem.

A reminder from the FAQ

Australian Domestic and International Qantas marketed and operated flights booked between Wednesday 21 February 2024 and Tuesday 27 February 2024, for travel between Wednesday 28 February 2024 and Friday 14 February 2025. QF flights operated by Finnair for Qantas (QF291, QF292, QF295 and QF296) will be eligible for this offer. Any other flight with a QF flight number on the ticket which is not operated by Qantas including Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan, and other partner airlines will not be eligible for this offer. Double Qantas Points or double Status Credits will not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. See Airline Earning Table for details.

Should be able to cancel within 24h of booking iirc.

Am I imagining things or have the Flex Y fare rules become more restrictive lately?

$99 cancellation fee, or flight credit allowed but has to be used within a year of the original booking date?

Was under the impression Flex Y allowed cancellation without penalty.

International Flex Y I haven't been through all the fare rules but does seem like you at least have no cancellation fee on flights Aus to NZ.
Nothing has changed here - Dom Flex Y has been like this forever. As you correctly call out, different conditions apply for International Flex Y.

In the FAQ on the email confirmation for DSc registration it states under which flights are eligible ‘Double Qantas Points or double Status Credits will not be earned on some fare types and booking classes. See Airline Earning Table for details.’

I assume if a booking for business saver fare AKL-MEL in J shows 80 SC, that those SC are eligible for DSC? Right?

Sorry just got to make sure I understand all the fine print before dropping $3k in pursuit of QF gold…

Include a link because I can't find the article(s) you're referring to.
Sorry I misunderstood that Jq Flights are included in the qf DSc promo as there was a link to this article in the Aff DSC article.
however I realised that Jq metal is not included as Brandan Loo states in his article that JQ flights are not included, nor does the loyalty bonus kick in. It was a lot of crash course reading to do in a couple of days… apologies for the misunderstanding…

Yes. Commercial fares are eligible.

That bit about some fares not eligible refer to things like Group travel bookings in G class and industry fares and the like. Anything you buy from QF will, in the main be fine.

With the SYD-HEL where is the actual switch from QF to AY metal?
The earliest is usually in SIN (catching AY132 from there) but I'll continue on QF1 to LHR to gain more SC's and connect to AY from there. Adds 6-9 hours to the travel time but is doable.

QF favours SIN as the connection. If you buy your ticket from AY, they use DOH, SIN, BKK, HKG and TYO as connections for the AU <-> FI journeys, sometimes even some Chinese ports.

Have you tried putting LHR-REK in?

I have a customer care credit voucher (which has a booking reference) I wonder if I book a flight using it, whether it will count as new booking today for DSC or when the voucher was issued...

That could work but I need a stopover in Helsinki. If this trip happens the way I'm thinking of it, I'll stay continue to REK two weeks after arriving in HEL.

The original booking reference will remain along with its creation date. If you want double SC's, you need a booking reference which has been created during this initial 7-day promo period.
